Chapter 138: Chapter 137: East Snake Mountain
million as the bid price! Lin Tian couldn’t help but admire Bai Yuanhao’s audacity — almost 600 million for a stone, indeed the world of the wealthy is something ordinary people could never understand.
After Bai Yuze had placed his bet, two other people went up. It was that fat boss hugging a scantily dressed mistress. Curious, Lin Tian took a peek at his vote.
Five billion followed by all sixes. As expected, businessmen all believe in this concept, using auspicious numbers even in making bids. Unfortunately, his "Everything Goes Smoothly" couldn’t beat the Bai Family’s "I Get Rich." However, Lin Tian breathed a sigh of relief. Although the fat boss wasn’t a good person, Lin Tian preferred the Bai Family to be the one taken advantage of.
Checking the time, it was almost up, only ten more minutes until the bidding ended. He observed the bids in Box No. 1 using his x-ray vision. The highest was 180 million. Betting everything on the rough stone was too risky; indeed, not many were willing to take that chance.
After waiting another five minutes, the organizers had begun clearing the area. Lin Tian confirmed that no more bids were coming in, quickly wrote a string of numbers on the paper — 180 million followed by sixes, just a few million more than the highest one. Initially, he wanted to add just a few hundred or thousand, but upon reflection, that seemed too obvious and might tempt someone to investigate, so he decided to add several million more.
The quality of Lot No. 1 was worth the price; even writing 300 million would result in a sure profit. At the last moment, Lin Tian placed his bet into Box No. 1 to confuse the Bai Family, and casually wrote another number to bet on Box No. 2. Bai Yuze, seeing Lin Tian bet on both lots, couldn’t help but sneer in disdain from within the crowd.
The organizing staff politely ushered everyone out, and once Lin Tian and his group left, they all breathed a sigh of relief. The bids were placed; all that was left was to wait.
"Lin Tian, I saw you bet on both Lots 1 and 2. How much did you bid?" Xiao Manxuan asked curiously.
"Almost 200 million for No. 1, and it seems a bit over 100 million for No. 2," Lin Tian said nonchalantly. Since Lot No. 2 wouldn’t win, the money was just a number, not to be paid in the end.
"200 million, are you confident?" Xiao Manxuan didn’t know what 200 million meant for this bid, but the Miss knew it, and she was worried it might not win.
"I should win, I guess. I’ve been observing for so long; not many have bet on No. 1," Lin Tian said, deliberately using an uncertain tone to avoid raising suspicions.
After coming out, they delayed for some time and the sky had nearly darkened. Oddly, they hadn’t seen Zhou Botong at all in the afternoon; probably he was busy playing somewhere else. Wan Gaoyuan, who owned his own jewelry shop, was also bidding on jade, just not seen around.
Back at the hotel they were staying at, the Miss immediately ordered room service instead of going out to eat. She probably did this to take care of Secretary Xu, seeing how tired she was, going out would involve running around.
Around eight in the evening, Zhou Botong finally called to ask which hotel they were at, planning to drive over to pick them up. Bored of waiting, Lin Tian was watching TV with the sisters in the lobby, while Secretary Xu went to rest.
Another fifteen minutes later, Zhou Botong and Ou Mengmeng finally arrived.
"Ou Mengmeng, the great beauty, what on earth are you planning? Where are you planning it? Can you tell me now?" Lin Tian couldn’t understand what they were plotting.
"East Snake Mountain in Zhonghai City, ever heard of it?" Ou Mengmeng replied with a question.
Lin Tian didn’t answer, but Xiao Manxuan exclaimed in surprise, "You guys are going to East Snake Mountain? We’re heading there later too."
"Second Miss, what are you going there for? What place is East Snake Mountain? I really don’t know," Lin Tian wondered, as he was going to meet a Japanese there, but he couldn’t fathom why the sisters were going.
"East Snake Mountain is kind of a scenic area; there’s a very famous temple at the top called Fanyin Temple. Mom made a wish there last year for the Xiao Family’s safety and prosperity. My sister said she wants to go fulfill that vow tonight," Xiao Manxuan explained.
He hadn’t expected Mrs. Xiao to believe in such things, but she rigorously managed the Xiao Family, and making a vow was a kind of psychological support for her. Sometimes praying to gods wasn’t about genuinely believing they could help fulfill some wish, but more about providing psychological comfort.
"Alright then, be careful when you go out tonight. We’ll head out first," Lin Tian said, as he and Zhou Botong left the building.
The Miss didn’t stop him from going because she knew that with Lin Tian’s abilities, it was always him who bullied others.
"Lin Tian, I’ll take you to a place first," Ou Mengmeng said mysteriously after getting into the car.
Keeping things so secretive, Lin Tian also wanted to know what Ou Mengmeng was up to. She drove to a villa not long after, and by the familiarity she showed, it was probably her home.
True to being a wealthy person’s child, no wonder she could afford to drive a Maybach. Ou Mengmeng pressed the remote, opening the exterior garage door, then the lights inside automatically came on.
Once Lin Tian entered, he again marveled at how unique Ou Mengmeng was, because the garage was filled with four or five sports cars, including Maserati, Lamborghini, and Ferrari.
"These are all part of my collection. Alas, I don’t have a Bugatti Veyron; it’s limited edition, and money can’t necessarily buy one," Ou Mengmeng said regretfully, making the two men feel a bit embarrassed.
"Are you talking about a car race when you mention a showdown? Ou Mengmeng, are you into street racing?" Lin Tian realized the situation. If he hadn’t figured it out, he might as well smash his head with a block of tofu.
Hearing him mention street racers, Zhou Botong and Ou Mengmeng didn’t care much. Ou Mengmeng said, "There aren’t really street racers in the country. Look at those young guys on the roads, their hair dyed all sorts of colors, wearing flamboyant clothes, and even painting their cars in stupid ways. They rev their engines and blast their horns to show off, but in reality, they’re just making noise."
Lin Tian could relate to this deeply; where he used to live was secluded with few people, and occasionally at ungodly hours, cars would roar past on the road. Zhou Botong also disdained such behavior: "Many of them just modify their exhaust pipes to make a loud noise and like to show off. The circle of sports car enthusiasts is spoiled by such people."
"Actually, most of the time we just get together, talk, and we never race in the city late at night or drive under influence. You have to be sick in the head to do that. Even when we organize events, they’re generally in deserted places at night," Ou Mengmeng concluded. Then offhandedly, she added, "Lin Tian, pick one. If you’re not familiar, Zhou Botong and I can get on it."
It’s just driving, what’s there to fear about a Japanese. Lin Tian inspected the sports cars in the garage, pointing at the red Ferrari, "That one, I’ve always wanted to know what driving a Ferrari feels like. Today, I have the chance, why would I be scared of a Japanese!"
"Are you sure you want this one?" Ou Mengmeng looked a bit strange. Upon confirming Lin Tian’s choice, she couldn’t help but give him a thumbs up in admiration.
