Zombie Bodyguard
Chapter 13: Girl’s Thoughts

Chapter 13: Chapter 13: Girl’s Thoughts

"Jerk, hold me steady, it hurts there, it’s all your fault?" Xiao Manxuan winced after landing, probably straining her hip as she touched down, only to realize the ambiguities in her accusation made Lin Tian shiver.

Lin Tian wiped his forehead and supported her, saying, "Second Miss, I was forced by you just now, I told you Little Hua wasn’t dead, but you wouldn’t believe me; isn’t everything fine now?"

"You hit me already, and now you say these nice words; you’re just a bad person." Xiao Manxuan protested unhappily and after talking, she seemed to realize something and exclaimed in surprise, "What? You say Little Hua isn’t dead? Why didn’t you say that earlier, you made me sad for so long, you really are a jerk."

Shivering, Lin Tian shivered again, rolling his eyes speechlessly and said helplessly, "My Second Miss, I’ve said it three times already, but you just wouldn’t listen; now I end up being the bad guy."

"Ptui, who’s your Second Miss; okay, I wronged you, is that enough? I’ve never seen such a fierce bodyguard like you." After hearing that Little Hua wasn’t dead, Xiao Manxuan’s tone softened.

"You have never seen such an amazing, such a handsome bodyguard either." Looking to lighten the mood, Lin Tian flaunted his narcissism.

This made Xiao Manxuan burst into laughter, causing Lin Tian to stare a bit bewildered; one moment she was crying beautiful tears, lashes still wet, and the next she was smiling radiantly, truly a beauty.

Seeing Lin Tian staring intently at her, Xiao Manxuan’s face turned red, and she coyly said, "I know you’re amazing, now help me over to see Little Hua."

Little Hua was just knocked out by Lin Tian, of course, there was nothing wrong; besides, every purebred Tibetan Mastiff is hard to come by, Lin Tian couldn’t bring himself to harm it. He supported Xiao Manxuan as they moved toward Little Hua, she slowly squatted down, and after feeling that Little Hua was indeed alright, her face showed a happy smile.

"Jerk, thank you," Xiao Manxuan turned her head and sincerely said to Lin Tian.

"How long have you had Little Hua?" Noticing how much she cared, Lin Tian asked.

Silently for a while, Xiao Manxuan sat down next to Little Hua, wincing as she touched the ground, gasping at the pain.

"I was very young when my father and grandfather died in a car accident, and my mother took over the family business. From that time, my mother barely had time for me. My sister was really good to me, she said she would accompany me and care for me like a mother. But..."

Stopping there, Xiao Manxuan looked somewhat melancholic, and Lin Tian didn’t interrupt, letting her continue.

"After graduating, my sister joined the family company and gradually became as busy as mom, seldom having time to come home. Fearing I’d be lonely, she got me a newborn Tibetan Mastiff, Little Hua, for my tenth birthday."

So, Little Hua had been with Xiao Manxuan for eight years, alone without family affection; no wonder she was so anxious when she saw Little Hua knocked down, Lin Tian could empathize, although he had always lived with his grandfather.

In this regard, Lin Tian had it a bit better since he grew up under his grandfather’s care.

"Second Miss, I’m sorry, if I had known about this, I wouldn’t have knocked out your Little Hua," Lin Tian said with some compassion.

Xiao Manxuan seemed not to hear his apology, her eyes watery as she gazed spellbound at Lin Tian, making him feel awkward before he quietly said, "Jerk, you’re a good person. You shouldn’t be my bodyguard anymore."

"Villains, heroes, what’s going on?" Lin Tian wondered to himself, confused by the little girl’s words. Scratching his head, he said in puzzlement, "You can call me a villain or a hero, but why won’t you let me be your bodyguard? You know I’m pretty tough, I could even take a bullet for you."

"I don’t want you to take a bullet for me!" Xiao Manxuan cried out, then lowered her head and said softly, "A normal person in a bulletproof vest can also stop bullets, but what good does that do? Can you withstand a bomb?"

Lin Tian opened his mouth to say something but then held back. He certainly couldn’t tell her he was a zombie, not to mention he had never tested whether a zombie’s body could withstand a bomb.

"You don’t understand, I’m a calamity; no bodyguard of mine ever ends well. The last one protecting me was blown up right before my eyes, just gone, gone, sob, sob..." Overwhelmed with emotion, Xiao Manxuan began to cry again, this time even more heartbroken, her shoulders shaking uncontrollably.

Lin Tian hadn’t anticipated such a tragic event before. Such a gruesome incident would be unbearable even for a mature adult, let alone an eighteen-year-old girl. Lin Tian touched her hair trying to comfort her, but Xiao Manxuan suddenly hugged him, her head buried in his chest, crying even louder.

The cries were frantic, and Xiao Manxuan, shedding her tough exterior, let out all her pent-up loneliness and insecurities in a flood of tears, soaking Lin Tian’s shirt through. That day, Lin Tian finally believed the saying that women are made of water. He gently patted her back and, once she had calmed down a bit, he asked softly.

"Such heinous incidents shouldn’t happen in Xikou City, right? The streets are full of cameras, practically a safety net, and the state’s power isn’t trivial. How could they let such things happen easily? We rarely even hear of shootings, let alone intense bombs."

"It wasn’t in the city." Xiao Manxuan sat up, wiped her tears, and said, "It happened when I was out on a trip; we were ambushed on the road, the bodyguard’s car was bombed, and the attackers probably wanted to kidnap me alive, that’s why the car I was in got a chance to escape."

The situation was somewhat as Lin Tian had guessed, but this didn’t seem like a simple kidnapping, as bombs were involved. He thought for a moment then asked, "Did your mom say anything to you afterward?"

"No, she hardly ever talks to me about the company’s business. I only know about their new projects by overhearing mom’s phone conversations. Ever since I was little, my parents rarely discussed company matters in front of me. Villain, do you know something?" Xiao Manxuan looked up at him hopefully.

The little girl’s imagination was too rich, thinking an unrelated outsider would know anything. Lin Tian shook his head with a smile. Business affairs are too complicated; they might be about money or some scientific research achievement. Mrs. Xiao had done the right thing not telling Xiao Manxuan—it’s better for her, as some business secrets, even if trusted to family, could harm her.

"Villain, I’ve told you everything, being my bodyguard is extremely dangerous, do you still want to?" A complex expression flitted across her eyes, hoping Lin Tian would stay away but also faintly wishing he would stay.

Every girl has a princess dream, hoping that when she’s in danger, a knight from her dreams would come and defeat the enemies, rescuing her.

"Of course, I want to. You know what Zixia Fairy said in A Chinese Odyssey, ’In my dreams, my lover is a hero who will one day come to marry me in shining armor and on a cloud of colors before everyone.’ Maybe I am that hero," Lin Tian bragged with a grin.

"Pfft—" Xiao Manxuan covered her mouth and laughed, saying, "You’re so shameless, but I’m glad, you’re a good person."

After speaking, she leaned her head on Lin Tian’s shoulder and murmured, "I’m so sleepy, I want to sleep."

"Hey, Second Miss?" Lin Tian quickly called out to her, but she was already asleep. It made sense to Lin Tian; after such an emotional rollercoaster, she was bound to be overwhelmed by sleepiness once she relaxed.

Xiao Manxuan slept for an entire day. Even when the maid came to call her for lunch at noon, she didn’t wake up. Lin Tian guessed she usually didn’t sleep well, so he didn’t wake her up until the sun set.
