After calming down the devastated Wang Dada.
He also soothed the terrified Song Dingbo for a moment.
Zhao Siyang was about to comfort Third Miss Gan when he found himself hearing her ask, “Zhang San has been gone for such a long time, he might not have encountered any danger, has he?”
Zhao Siyang said with a smile, “He’s even craftier than a monkey, how could he ever face any dang…”
Suddenly, something occurred to Zhao Siyang, and the smile vanished from his face.
“I’d better go and look for him.”
Suddenly, Zhao Siyang thought, what if Zhang San had run off?
As he left Wang Laohao’s courtyard, Zhao Siyang took off the Great Sword from his back, and, using the flying sword, he headed straight east.
There was a human scent on the street, clearly indicating Zhang San had headed east.
Shortly after, Zhao Siyang spotted Zhang San running eastwards through the woods ahead.
Zhang San also heard the sound of rushing wind from behind and shouted back, “Zhao Siyang, you’re flaunting so much up there, be careful not to bump into a ghost!”
Zhao Siyang snorted coldly and said, “Do you think I’m like you?
I am digni…”
Smack—
Before Zhao Siyang could finish speaking, a ghostly creature from the woods, towering over ten zhang tall with three heads, raised its hand and swatted Zhao Siyang right off his flying sword.
Then, the enormous ghostly creature walked over to where Zhao Siyang had fallen and reached out to grab him.
Up ahead, Zhang San taunted, “That’s what you get for being arrogant!
Can’t you be more low-profile like me?
You see, I…”
Before Zhang San could finish his sentence, he suddenly felt his body become very heavy.
On closer inspection, he saw several Big Head ghosts, about a foot tall and eerily resembling Big Head Wang’s illegitimate children, clinging onto him, though he did not know when they had latched onto him.
These little ghosts were small in stature, but for some reason, they felt as heavy as a thousand catties on him.
Not to mention running forward; he now even struggled to straighten his back.
At the same moment, a loud boom came from behind.
The huge ghostly creature fell to the ground with a thud.
Zhao Siyang got up from the ground, looked over at Zhang San, and curiously said, “You can also summon Ghosts and Gods?
I never saw that coming!”
The enormous ghost had been summoned by Zhang San from nearby, knowing that the creature had devoured quite a few people.
He decided to keep it by his side, ready to ambush Zhao Siyang when necessary.
But he had never imagined that Zhao Siyang could also summon Ghosts and Gods.
Moreover, these little ghosts were not mature in wisdom and had committed no evil; hence, they bore no trace of sin, making them impossible for him to harness or drive away.
Zhao Siyang dusted off himself and then walked towards Zhang San.
But before he could get close, a red-colored little ghost jumped out and spat a fireball at him.
Zhao Siyang immediately dodged, but as soon as he landed, two more little ghosts burst out from the ground, attempting to bite him.
Zhao Siyang summoned out eight Light Sword Gangs to fend off the three little ghosts’ attack, then turned his head to look in Zhang San’s direction, only to discover the little ghosts he had just summoned had been torn off and thrown onto the ground by a three-handed evil ghost.
“Zhang San, where did you get all these evil ghosts from?”
Zhang San chuckled and responded, “Is there a possibility that if they weren’t evil ghosts, I wouldn’t be able to summon them?”
Upon hearing this, Zhao Siyang was suddenly shocked and pulled out a piece of Talisman Paper.
Using Qi as ink, he wrote down a talisman and threw it towards Zhang San.
The talisman burned up midway, turning into a wisp of ash.
The ash twisted in the wind, eventually transforming into a giant flesh-colored insect with one eye, fanged mouth, and seemingly countless claws underneath, rapidly crawling towards Zhang San.
Although Zhang San didn’t know what this creature was, he could tell at a glance that it was laden with sins, and calling it an embodiment of sins wouldn’t be an exaggeration.
Zhang San raised his hand toward the insect, and it felt as though fires of karma were burning inside it, continuously wailing as the sins committed in its past life surfaced in its mind.
The next moment, the insect turned around and charged towards Zhao Siyang.
Zhao Siyang was taken aback.
“Ghost Summoning Method!
This is a lost Technique of Legalism, how do you know it?”
Zhang San chuckled and continued summoning Ghosts and Gods.
“If Song Dingbo can dream of learning a ghost-catching method, can’t I dream of learning this Ghost Summoning Method?”
This really frustrated Zhao Siyang!
How did he end up befriending someone like this during his descent from the mountain?
Not a single truthful word in his mouth.
“If you could learn this in your dreams, I would be the reincarnation of the Taoist Ancestor!”
Zhao Siyang said, also beginning to summon ghosts and gods to counter those summoned by Zhang San.
However, the ghosts Zhao Siyang summoned had to be free of serious sins; otherwise, as soon as they were summoned, they would be subdued by Zhang San using the Ghost Summoning Method and turned around to attack him.
Moreover, Zhang San would one moment put a Swift Wind Technique on this ghost, and the next moment make another ghost disguise itself with tree leaves.
He was truly hard to deal with.
But at this moment, Zhang San was thoroughly enjoying the pleasure of being a necromancer.
In the end, Zhao Siyang had no choice but to gather his remaining five little ghosts into the palm of his left hand to avoid being attacked by the several dozen ghosts and gods summoned by Zhang San.
Seeing this, Zhang San knew he was going to win this time.
I can’t believe I’ve improved this much!
While Zhang San was feeling proud, Zhao Siyang angrily said, “Guess whether I was letting you win on purpose?”
Zhang San almost burst out laughing.
“Zhao Siyang, let’s get this straight first, when you die, and I come to collect your body, you must leave this mouth of yours for me.
This tough thing, I’ll have someone refine it into a Heart-protecting Mirror, so tough that even the Purple Mansion Realm wouldn’t break through!”
Zhao Siyang couldn’t be bothered to compete in a battle of wits with Zhang San and withdrew a long sword from the Great Sword on his back, raising it high.
“Sun Sculpting!”[Note 34]
In an instant, the blade shone as if the sun was hanging high, illuminating the entire Ghost Domain like a sun.
Amid the wailing of countless ghosts and gods, Zhang San sensed that all the ghosts and gods he controlled were annihilated.
“I was dueling you with ghosts and gods, and you used swordsmanship, how despicable!”
Realizing he was going to lose again, Zhang San could only curse in anger.
Zhao Siyang sheathed his long sword and coldly glanced at Zhang San.
“You were the first to use other techniques, and you dare to accuse me, where’s your shame?”
“What’s wrong with my face?
You’re just jealous because I’m better-looking than you!”
“If you’re so good-looking, why didn’t any woman trick you?”
“You know that Third Miss Gan tricked you, huh?
Eh?
How did you guys come here?”
Zhao Siyang immediately turned around, only to find no one behind him.
Turning back, Zhang San had already run far away.
In a dilapidated mansion in the distance, the white Little Fox looked excitedly out of the window and shouted, “Grandpa, I just saw a huge bright light, like the sun.”
The Old Fox, reminiscing with an old friend, wondered if his daughter had sneaked some liquor.
On the opposite side, Ghost King Wutong, whose foot also resembled that of a five or six-year-old child, heard this and burst into laughter.
“Xiang, this is the Ghost Domain, how can there possibly be a sun here.”
Little Fox earnestly looked outside, certain she hadn’t been mistaken.
“Grandpa, Uncle Wutong, I want to go out and have a look.”
“Xiang, just mention your Uncle Wutong, the Ghost King, outside.
In the entire Ghost Domain, no ghost would dare to disrespect me!”[Note 35]
“Okay.”
Little Fox ran out on her own and saw many ghosts and monsters along the way, which made her frown.
“Ghosts are so ugly; only my Zhang San is handsome.
Too bad, I can’t meet him in the Ghost Domain.
Oh—”

Sun Sculpting, derived from “Guidance on Life and Death·Aggregate Collection”: “The method of shape refining has six gates…the fourth being Sun Sculpting…Such are not empty paths of the great Tao and ultimately can’t merge with the Great Void.” Originally a term for internal alchemy, here it is adapted as a kind of swordsmanship.
[Note 35]Citation Explanation
Ghost King Wutong, from “Chronicles of Yi Jian”, which reports that Wutong God looked like a five or six-year-old child and was known as the God of Peace, capable of predicting good or bad fortunes, revered as a household deity in ancient times.
However, folklore often depicted the Wutong God as a rat, pig, monkey, snake, toad, or bull-headed ghost, frequently transforming into human form to haunt the mortal world.
Hong Mai’s “Chronicle of Rocky Relics and Unusual Manifestations·Wooden Spirits of Jiangnan” mentions: “The land south of the great river is mountainous, and its customs of venerating ghosts are very peculiar; many rely on rock and tree shrines, every village has them.
Called Wutong in eastern Zhejiang and western Jiangxi and Fujian, also called San Lang from Under the Tree or Wooden Spirit, the one-footed ones are called Single-footed Wutong, though the names differ, they are actually the same.”
Thus, this book depicts him as a child with only one foot.
