Clang, clang, clang, clang!
Zhao Siyang swung his Light Sword Gang, and in an instant, four beams of Sword Qi appeared in front of him, blocking the sudden attack from a middle-aged martial artist of Gluttonous Mountain.[Note 27]
Seizing the opportunity, Zhang San acted, swoosh, and grabbed the half of the flatbread that Zhao Siyang was about to throw on the ground.
What kind of Taoist is this, having no appreciation for food at all.
With half a flatbread in one hand, Zhang San started eating.
Seeing that Third Miss Gan next to him was somewhat worried, he reassured her, “Don’t worry, these people are just here to grind for battle losses, they won’t really go all out.”
Zhao Siyang, who was engaging with the Gluttonous Mountain middle-aged martial artist, had originally intended to split his four beams of Sword Qi into eight.
But upon hearing Zhang San’s words, Zhao Siyang felt that four beams of Sword Qi were enough.
However, in the next instant, the four surging beams of Sword Qi he had released were met head-on by the martial artist of Gluttonous Mountain, who withstood two beams with raw resilience, repelled two with his left arm, and thrust a heavy hammer strike forward with his right hand.
Boom——
Zhao Siyang was blasted away, crashing into a huge boulder.
Struck by the tremendous force, the boulder instantly shattered into pieces.
Zhao Siyang held his chest, feeling as if that punch had caused his heart to skip a beat.
“Zhang San, you…
not a single word out of your mouth is realistic!
Is this what you call not going all out?
That punch just now, was at least at the peak of the Spiritual Platform Realm, or it could even have reached the level of the Purple Mansion Realm!”
Zhang San looked puzzled.
It wasn’t that he was surprised by how earnest the middle-aged martial artist from Gluttonous Mountain was.
It was simply that Zhang San had no idea what the Spiritual Platform Realm and the Purple Mansion Realm stood for.
Now, he could only deduce from Zhao Siyang’s words that the Purple Mansion Realm must be the next realm after the Spiritual Platform Realm.
Then, Zhang San realized another issue; no matter what these two realms were, they were definitely much stronger than the True Core Realm.
If the True Core Realm was followed by the Spiritual Platform Realm, then it meant that Zhao Siyang’s actual strength was at least capable of withstanding a strike from someone of the Purple Mansion Realm.
Perhaps he was at least at the mid-stage or even the late-stage of the Purple Mansion Realm.
Doesn’t that mean he’s at least three major realms higher than me, who is in the late-stage of the Primordial Qi Realm!?
Zhang San turned his head to look at Third Miss Gan and asked, “Zhao Siyang is at least a Purple Mansion Realm powerhouse, are you surprised?”
Third Miss Gan shook her head innocently and replied, “I don’t understand the realms of you cultivators.
The books and the storytellers only talk about things like flying to the heavens, escaping through the earth, and turning beans into soldiers.
Are these true?
I usually feel a bit embarrassed to ask Taoist Priest Zhao.”
Embarrassed to ask?
When you look at Zhao Siyang, your eyes are full of longing!
And you still get embarrassed?
“Then let me explain to you.
First, there’s the Primordial Qi Realm, which is the realm I’m in now.
Then there’s the True Core Realm, which is the realm I’m about to reach.”
“Next comes the Spiritual Platform Realm, a realm I could reach with a little effort.”
“Above that is the Purple Mansion Realm, which Four is likely in now,”
As Zhang San spoke, he observed Third Miss Gan’s eyes and saw that she wasn’t overly shocked or confused.
Clearly, he was right.
After all, Zhang San didn’t believe that an ordinary person could steal blueprints from the Dragon Serpent Gang.
“Then what is the realm above Purple Mansion?”
Of course, Zhang San had no idea what lay beyond the Purple Mansion Realm, he had only just heard about it from Zhao Siyang.
“I don’t know.”
Sincerity is always the best finishing move.
Upon hearing Zhang San’s frank response, Third Miss Gan couldn’t help but laugh.
Meanwhile, not too far away, Zhao Siyang who was still clashing with the middle-aged martial artist from Gluttonous Mountain, was beginning to grow impatient.
Even though he had unleashed eight beams of Sword Qi, the opponent relied on an incredibly resilient body to withstand his Sword Qi and charged at him.
“Body Refinement is such a hassle!”
As Zhao Siyang formed his spell gestures, the eight Sword Qi instantly doubled to sixteen Sword Qi.
Although the power of each Sword Qi hadn’t increased, the number had doubled, which in turn doubled the pressure on the middle-aged Martial Artist of Gluttonous Mountain.
Just then, Kong Wenzai, who had been lying in wait for a long time, lifted the corners of his mouth into a sinister curve.
“Now is the time!”
The disciples, who had set up the Sword Array behind him, couldn’t help but ask, “Sect Master, we’re already outnumbering him; do we really need to release the Sword Array in secret?
Won’t this tarnish the reputation of our noble and righteous sect?”
Always, the Pure Stream Sword Sect was no stranger to dirty work behind the scenes, but whether in external propaganda or internal education, they’ve always presented themselves as the emblem of the Righteous Path.
“What do you mean outnumbering him?
He, alone, is using sixteen Sword Qi against the friend from Gluttonous Mountain.
Isn’t that outnumbering?”
“He has sixteen Sword Qi, our Sword Array has only nine Sword Qi—so who is actually outnumbering whom?”
“It’s that stinking Taoist who’s in cahoots with the female thief, not us!
Got it?”
The disciples felt the Sect Master had a point.
They exchanged glances and released the Sword Array.
In an instant, nine Sword Qi tore through the air, targeting Zhao Siyang, who was engaged in combat with the middle-aged Martial Artist of Gluttonous Mountain.
Sword Cultivators, by nature, are not adept at close-quarters combat.
Though a sword can chop and slice, piercing is the most suitable form of attack for a sword.
To constantly strike the enemy with a light and sharp blade edge, keeping distance to avoid enemy attacks, is the essence of the Sword Dao.
And a cultivator manipulates the sword with Qi, bringing the Sword Dao to its ultimate expression.
Since they could rely on attack range to dominate the enemy, pure Sword Cultivators generally have less developed physical conditioning, as they rarely have the chance for close combat.
Therefore, once a Sword Cultivator is successfully ambushed, they are usually doomed.
However, before the nine Sword Qi could get close, Zhao Siyang already detected the abruptly approaching Sword Qi from behind.
“Sending such weak attacks is really annoying!”
With that annoyed remark, Zhao Siyang formed his spell gestures.
The sixteen Sword Qi exploded grandly, repelling the Martial Artist of Gluttonous Mountain, and astonishingly transformed into thirty-two Sword Qi.
Sixteen of them continued to suppress the middle-aged Martial Artist of Gluttonous Mountain.
The other sixteen headed straight for the nine somewhat uncontrolled Sword Qi, due to their shaker’s shock.
Zhang San, although uncertain of Zhao Siyang’s limits, felt that thirty-two Sword Qi was surely not his limit.
And just at that moment, Kong Yuting suddenly appeared beside Zhang San.
Zhang San hadn’t even noticed how she had approached.
But Kong Yuting’s target was not Zhang San, but Third Miss Gan next to him.
Third Miss Gan, caught by the wrist by the abruptly appearing Kong Yuting, screamed in terror.
Zhao Siyang sighed helplessly.
These people, truly bothersome!
Whoosh—
The thirty-two Sword Qi exploded again, morphing into sixty-four Sword Qi.
Thirty-two of them, charging straight at Kong Yuting!

[Note 27]Reference Explanation
‘Light Emission’ was originally a Taoist spell technique.
Referring to an illusory light conjured through talismans, also known as Divine Light.
It arises from “Mystical Records of the Lingbian Sect on Mount Xuanpu” (The character for Ling should be composed of ‘enclosure’ and ‘metal’, similarly to ‘Keng’, but since it’s unavailable in the input method/software and even unrecognizable when handwritten, I had to substitute it with Ling): “Divine Light, being illusory, is dazzling yet insubstantial.”
The original meaning can be crudely understood as a technique for emitting light.
Because it shares similarities with the Sword Qi technique I designed for Zhao Siyang’s swordsmanship—using Qi to create a sword and solidifying the insubstantial—I decided to name the technique Light Sword Gang.
