Yugioh Card Summoner
CH.620 Nir and the Ice Golem

With my visit to Himeśaila’s ice citadel completed, I headed for the next ice area. … why do my two big summonable monsters live in ice areas? Do I have some sort of buff for summoning ice monsters? But Laura is the one of us that was Nordic, not me.

Uṛanta doesn't, but he is a newer addition. And Luna and Swampert aren't strong enough to be considered 'big'.

Well, whatever. Summoning all those ice monsters to drive away the mammoths and yeti did remind me that my lineup of card based ice monsters is actually quite limited. I mean, White Night Dragon is literally the strongest one I have and it only has 3000 attack. Maybe I should make some custom ice monsters that have 4000 or more attack.

I’ll think about that after I return home, as I already reached the area Nir should live in. And with the info Unika had, it didn’t take too long to find the wolf.

He was sleeping in a cave he had dug in the icy ground. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to enter, just in case Nir assumed I was an intruder. So I instead waited by the entrance and began piling warm meat there. Yes, I put a ‘table’ below the meat so it wouldn’t be on the ground getting cold. I then used Spirit Magic to cause a light breeze that would push the scent of the meat into Nir’s cavern. That should wake him up.

And as I expected, it didn’t take long for Nir to climb out of the hole. He gave me a quick glance, but didn’t say anything. Instead he shoved his head into the pile of meat and began to eat.

While he did so, I also got out some snacks and ate them.

When Nir was done eating, he looked at me and spoke.

{So, you came this time, Master.}

“Yeah, I did.” I said to Nir, as I threw the last piece of my sandwich into my mouth.

{Do you actually have some business or is this just a pleasure visit?} The wolf asked. {Not that I mind, as you brought the good stuff.}

“Kind of both. I visited Himeśaila already, and wanted to come see you as well.”

{So I am just the seconds. … I suppose that is my spot in your list of monsters.}

“I know you are the second one I made a contract with, but that doesn’t mean you are lesser to Himeśaila, or my card monsters.” I told the wolf. “And I can prove it.”

{Prove, huh? How?}

I almost got a card out of Storage, but I decided that would be a bad idea. So instead I opened up a System window and used it to show him the image of Rank-Up-Magic Hyper Learning Force.

“It is a custom card I made for you. It should allow you to evolve even further. Though admittedly I’ve only tested it in my mental plane, so it might not work perfectly.” I told him.

{... I see. That is interesting.} Nir said. {But I will refuse.}

“Refuse? Why?” I asked.

{At least for now, I must. Did the fox lady tell you about the ice giant?} Nir asked.

“Yeah, I heard about it from Unika.” I answered.

{It is an ancient being. It has been here since before I was, and before the people I called elders were, and before their elders were. No one has ever been able to wake it up. And if I can’t do that, what kind of Fenrir am I? Am I one worthy of being called by you, someone who can summon Gods.}

“Inferiority complex. Really? I didn’t take you for someone who would have issues with something like that, Nir.”

{Perhaps I don’t. This frozen wasteland. No one rules these parts. It is survival of the fittest. And I plan on surviving.} He said. {But I’ve long since stopped improving. I am the pinnacle. Or so I believed. Until you told me I wasn’t. But even you, a God summoner, couldn’t help me improve when we attempted it. So I believe the only way for me to improve is to awaken and defeat the ice giant.}

“... I see. Well, if that is what you think, I think there is only one thing left to do.” I told him.

{... Master? What are you ..?}

“Let’s go wake up an ice giant.” I declared.

{But Master, how will that prove that I am the …}

“Nir.” I interrupted the wolf. “There is no I in team. And we are a team. So let’s be a team and do this. Well, I'll let you do the fighting. Just let me be the alarm.”

{I … Yes!} The wolf roared. {Climb on Master. We have a giant to shatter.}

I rode on Nir as we headed for a secret tunnel that would lead to the ice giant. It was a bit of a tight fit for the large Fenrir, but we managed.

We eventually reached a large open area completely under the ice. We could just barely see some of the sunlight seeping through the thick ice roof this cavern had. And at the center of it, a massive ice hill.

Except that the ‘ice hill’ was anything but ice. It was a type of crystal. … then again, ice is also a crystal.

But this crystal was special. It was clearly some of that near indestructible crystal made with Holy Magic. The common name for it is ‘the Goddess Crystal’ because of how it is made, but the System actually calls it the ‘Eternal Crystal’.

That would explain why Nir can’t even scratch the stuff. It is basically unbreakable by anything. But it doesn’t explain why the ice golem is inside the crystal.

Speaking of, the ice golem is massive. Probably sixty, maybe sixty five meters tall.1200 to 215 feet tall That means it is larger than Exodia, and most of my God monsters. Only Numerounius Numerounia is naturally larger.

I wonder how it got inside the crystal? Not like monsters can make it. At least I think so.

So maybe someone trapped it in there? Then should we wake it up?

The answer is naturally yes. I mean, what could go wrong? Even if this thing is stronger than us, I have enough set cards on me that I can teleport away while they buy me time, and Nir will just respawn even if he dies.

And no matter how strong this thing is, Numerounius Numerounia will defeat it. Even The Wicked Emptiness should be able to kill it.

But before I worry about killing this thing, I need to figure out how to free it. Sure most banishing cards can deal with it, but I kind of want to try doing it myself.

See, Galaxy-Eyes Dark Matter Dragon can actually erase these crystals with Draconic Magic, as he uses a form of Dark Matter Magic.

That isn’t an official classification, by the way. Dark matter is a form of Erasure Magic, though it is quite advanced, to the point where Alice can just barely use it.

But the Draconic version of it is a bit different, and both Janina and I’ve been learning it from Dark Matter Dragon. And let me tell you, it isn’t easy. To the point where even Janina can just barely use it. But for some reason, I have an easier time with it than her, so I’m actually basically equal on Draconic Erasure Magic with Janina.

So I turned myself from a Fenrir-kin into my triple dragon race and tried to use dark matter to erase parts of the Eternal Crystal. I did manage to erase some of it, but I realized that with my skills, it would take forever to release the ice golem from the crystal.

Instead, I decided to bring in some cards to help. But first I used Draconic Body and Demonic Might to modify my own body so that I was close enough to a specific monster where I could activate the spell I wanted to use.

My scales turned dark red, as the claws on my right hand grew especially long and vicious. I also formed a protective gauntlet around my right arm, just to protect me from the backlash of the Spell card I was about to activate.

I then activated Scarlet Security, using myself as the "Red Dragon Archfiend". Yes. I can do that. It is difficult, but as long as I meet certain criteria, I can be treated as a "Red Dragon Archfiend".

With the spell empowering my arm, I smashed the eternal crystal with all my might. A massive burst of flames erupted from my arm and engulfed the whole crystal. I quickly backed off and began reverting my arm back to a more normal draconic arm. It had been injured by the backlash, as I can’t be a perfect "Red Dragon Archfiend", but my Regeneration skill should heal all the damage soon enough.

Nir and I watched as the crystal began to crack, before eventually shattering. And while my hand hadn’t fully healed yet, that was fine. I wasn’t planning on fighting in the first place, so I pulled back and let Nir take the stage. I then began reverting back to my Fenrir-kin form, just in case we needed to escape.

Even with the eternal crystal shattered, it doesn’t look like the ice golem was active. I probably would have waited, but Nir didn’t feel like waiting, and instead launched an attack at the golem. He had formed Rending Claws on his paw and had slashed the air with it, sending out a magical slash that reached the ice giant in a near instant.

The slashes barely left a mark on the ice giant, and the marks quickly frosted over before the frost disappeared, revealing that all the damage that was done had healed.

Still, despite the injury and even recovering from it, the golem didn’t move.

{... Master, any tricks up your sleeve that will get this thing moving?} Nir asked, sounding disappointed.

“I’ll check.” I told the Fenrir.

I ran through a few cards. At first I tried to use Machine-type related cards, Machine Conversion Factory and Supercharge, to wake it up.

But since both of them failed, I assumed the ice golem must not be a Machine-type monster, despite the fact that most golems are treated as Machine-type.

So instead, I decided to go with a card that would work on Aqua-type monsters. After all, it could be Aqua-type as ice is just frozen water.

So I activated Aqua Jet instead. And it worked perfectly fine, surrounding the ice golem in water, confirming the fact that the ice golem was in fact Aqua-type.

And now that the ice golem had water, it was moving. Well, the water that surrounded it was moving.

It first seemed to try and sense what was going on with the water, but the water was just freezing to its body, so it stopped and gathered the water into one spot. It then  seemingly made a sensory organ, an eye, out of the water and looked at us.

“... Hello?” I called out to the golem. I’m not at all sure if it can understand speech, and I don’t know if it even has an ear, but I wanted to try.

{That isn't how you great a creature like this.} Nir said. {This is.} He then let out a massive howl that carried with it some Wind Magic.

The Wind caused the water that the golem had been controlling to gain some waves, but it didn’t disperse.

The golem seemingly didn’t like Nir’s greeting, as he responded by shooting out a water spear, but the spear froze on its way to Nir, turning into an ice spear. Nir was not impressed.

He simply lifted his left front paw, and even with the high speed the spear was traveling at, he just swung his paw down and shattered the spear.

{... I expected more from you, Ice Giant.} Nir said. {You are weak.}

The giant tried to attack a few more times with water spears, but each time Nir just smashed them out of the air. Eventually, the ice giant was left with just a tiny amount of fluid water, which was still holding the shape of an eye.

Nir seemed ready to vaporize the rest of the water the ice giant had, but instead he just turned around and began to walk away.

{You are worthless.} He exclaimed. {If you really are that weak, I will do as my master suggested and evolve. Then I will take over this area, leaving you to be nothing more than a myth amongst the monsters here.}

The ice giant didn’t, or maybe it couldn’t, respond. I turned to look at it and noticed that the little fluid water it had was already starting to freeze. That made me think of something.

Maybe this thing isn’t an ice golem at all. Maybe it is a water golem. This land, maybe this land was once not frozen over. And this golem was the ruler of the area.

But then it was somehow trapped in that eternal crystal, and during its time there, the climate changed and the golem inside the crystal froze.

… no, that can’t be it. Things inside an eternal crystal don’t change. Ever. No matter what. They are sealed off from everything, until the crystal is broken. So the golem froze first, then someone sealed it in a crystal. So maybe someone used ice magic to freeze it, and then to confirm that it stayed frozen, they put an eternal crystal around the frozen water giant.

Yeah. That sounds plausible.

I quickly flew to where the small amount of still liquid water was moving, before heating the water up gently with Spirit Fire Magic. I took a quick glance at Nir and he had stopped to look at what I was doing. I spoke to it, hoping it would understand.

“Golem, or whatever you are, I have an offer. I think I can melt your body, and if you make a summoning contract with me, I will.” I offered.

The golem didn’t verbally respond, but the liquid water was moving and not attacking me, so maybe this was working?

It still didn’t respond, but I could feel a connection forming between us. But it didn’t feel like a summoning contract. It was more like a taming contract.

But that shouldn’t matter. One can be turned into the other, so once we get this ice giant melted and we can hopefully talk, I can likely figure out why the contract feels wrong and we can have it corrected.

I flew back to Nir and told him the news. And his reaction was:

{Well, melt him then. Then we can have our fight.} The wolf said.
