Young Noble Be Monster Slaying -
Chapter 896: Returning to Mount Shu (I) (Teaser)
The next morning, a leisurely flute song drifted over from the distant mountains.
An airship descended quietly onto Mount Shu's Treasured Pagoda Peak, keeping an extremely low profile the entire time.
Those who recognized it as the airship belonging to Lin Bei, the leader of the Four Overlords, might have wondered what happened to his usual flamboyant style.
Normally, whenever Lin Bei returned to Mount Shu, he would stand on top of his airship, calling out and greeting his friends on the various peaks. He was always eager to show off his wealth and grandeur to every female cultivator around.
Lin Bei kept a low profile this time, but it hadn't been his choice to do so. On the contrary, he would have loved to let the whole world know that the Demon God was riding on his airship to Mount Shu and that they were all brothers now.
Unfortunately, after discussions among the higher-ups of the Divine Nine, the Terrestrial Ten, and the various demon kings, it was decided that everything had to be handled in secrecy.
The demons wanted to keep the news that the Demon God would be residing with the Mount Shu Sect a secret for two reasons. Firstly, they felt humiliated by the fact that the humans had captured the Demon God. Secondly, for the demons, deciding to live by the East Sea and coexist peacefully with humans was very different from being forced into the East Sea.
As for the Mount Shu Sect, they did not wish for news to be made public either, fearing it would attract the covetous attention of ill-intentioned forces.
Thus, only the higher-ups of the Mount Shu Sect, the thirty-five peak masters, and a few core disciples were informed. The outside world and Di Nufeng had to be kept completely in the dark.
The Hall of Construction had worked overnight to build two pavilions on Treasured Pagoda Peak, specially designed for Tuntun to live and study in. The layout of the pavilions had been specially designed so that Tuntun had a room to herself, but it could be monitored at any time from the two adjacent rooms.
The two people living in those rooms were the Demon King of the Verdant Foxhills, Caiyi, and the Mount Shu Sect's Daoist Yan. Neither party was willing to leave Tuntun alone with the other, hence the construction of this triangular arrangement.
The Mount Shu Sect had no shortage of talented people, but there were few truly suitable for this job. So, Daoist Yan had been entrusted with this task.
Anyone whose cultivation level had not reached the eighth realm was immediately ruled out, as they would not even be able to see through Caiyi's tricks.
Venerable Wen Yuan was the sect leader of the Mount Shu Sect, so he obviously was not suited to living there day after day.
Baize was on the brink of ascension to the ninth realm, so her intentions regarding the Demon God were uncertain. There was no guarantee she would remain impartial. To avoid suspicion, she had voluntarily distanced herself from Treasured Pagoda Peak.
The Azure Dragon was considered an outsider and had submitted to Chu Liang, rather than the Mount Shu Sect. He had yet to prove his loyalty to the Mount Shu Sect.
After ruling everyone else out one by one, it appeared that Daoist Yan was the most suitable for the task.
Her ancestors had once been closely connected to Caiyi, but that was a matter from several centuries ago. When it came to executing decisive action and not showing bias for family members, Daoist Yan was absolutely trustworthy.
…
Fang Zhonghai, a senior disciple and the Hall of Construction's head of operations, was giving a tour of the pavilions on Treasured Pagoda Peak. Of course, Venerable Wen Yuan of Mount Shu and the Mount Shu Sect's four Guardian Elders were present the entire time.
Fang Zhonghai led the demon race's envoy Caiyi and the honored guest Demon God Tuntun around Treasured Pagoda Peak, with Chu Liang and the other members of the human envoy group tagging along.
"This is the classroom we have built for the Divine Demon God," Fang Zhonghai introduced. "When the time comes, over a dozen great experts from the Three Schools of Thought—Confucianism, Buddhism, and Daoism—will take turns imparting their knowledge to the Divine Demon God. Naturally, we will also arrange for learned individuals of the demon race to come and teach—"
"I will handle it personally," Caiyi said calmly. "No need to trouble anyone else."
This matter was indeed a bit difficult to address. After all, the demons of the Far West didn't have much in terms of culture and literature. The Far West was truly a cultural wasteland, even more barren than its lands. Caiyi was an exception to that; she was so cultured that she seemed out of place among her own kind.
Venerable Wen Yuan chimed in, "The humans and the demons will each assign someone to attend the lessons as observers to ensure that no deliberate incitement of hatred or distortion of history occurs."
Turning his head, Fang Zhonghai pointed to the side and said, "As per CEO Chu—Junior Brother Chu's request, we've invited some people to be classmates with the Divine Demon God."
Some students were already waiting inside the classroom, notably the Koi sisters Liu Xiaoyu'er and Liu Xiaoyu, the Baize youngling, and Chen Lingtong, the Alchemy Master's great-grandson.
"We arranged for some classmates in the hope that the Demon God will learn the importance of unity and amicable relations among and between all races through friendship," Chu Liang said.
Of course, there were some reasons that could not be spoken aloud. For instance, if Tuntun made a mistake, the teacher obviously could not scold her directly. With classmates present, the teacher could find an excuse to scold a classmate instead, indirectly guiding Tuntun about what she had done wrong.
That classmate could, for example, be a certain student with the surname Chen. Ever since the teacher-disciple duo Chu Liang and Di Nufeng "educated" Chen Lingtong, the child had become much more obedient.
When Chu Liang disappeared, Chu Yi, who was about the same age as Chen Lingtong, took over. He properly straightened Chen Lingtong out over the next few years. Chu Yi pulled Chen Lingtong back from the path of becoming another Qi Lin'er and turned him into a polite and well-mannered child.
Chen Lingtong was considered one of the more outstanding talents among the Mount Shu Sect disciples that were around thirteen or fourteen years old, so it was not surprising that he had been selected to be one of Tuntun's classmates.
Chu Liang had included a Mount Shu Sect disciple because he felt that if they were going to showcase unity among all races, it would seem quite odd if there were no actual humans involved.
"Divine Demon God, you can go greet your classmates first if you'd like," Caiyi said.
Tuntun walked over shyly.
Among those facing her, only Chen Lingtong looked at her with a nervous gaze.
The others, whether human or beast, likely did not know Tuntun's true identity. After all, the Koi sisters were from Silver Sword Peak, so there was some concern they might accidentally let something slip when they returned.
Liu Xiaoyu pulled Tuntun over with a bright smile. "From now on, we'll be classmates. Don't be afraid. Here at Mount Shu, we'll look after you. We girls should play together."
Chen Lingtong was just about to smile too.
However, Liu Xiaoyu pointed at him and said, "Don't play with him. Male humans are no good."
The Baize youngling was about to move closer to Tuntun, but Liu Xiaoyu immediately pointed at it too.
She added, "Male beasts aren't any good either."
"Ahem..." Chu Liang cleared his throat. "A certain fish shouldn't lead other students astray because of her personal experiences."
"Okay, okay." Liu Xiaoyu pointed at Chu Liang. "He is indeed a good one."
"Hmm?" Chu Liang murmured with a frown, feeling that her words sounded a little off in the context of the conversation.
…
The morning went by in a busy blur as they helped Tuntun settle in.
Who would have imagined this? Five hundred years ago, the Demon God had been imprisoned at Mount Shu. Five hundred years later, the Demon God was now attending school at Mount Shu. Well, in a sense, there was no real difference between the two.
When Chu Liang returned to Silver Sword Peak, Di Nufeng asked curiously, "What did you all get together for?"
"A new school was built on that mountain over there, right? I enrolled the Koi sisters in that school," Chu Liang replied with a smile. "Esteemed Teacher, if you're worried, you can go listen in and see how good the teachers are."
"I'm not going to check out a place that's for studying," Di Nufeng said, turning around and sprawling back onto the bed. "Just hearing about that crap gives me a headache."
Chu Liang had more or less expected this reaction.
My teacher is only interested in looking at things with pictures. Making her read pages of only text is a bit beyond her capabilities. The more you encourage her to go, the less she'll want to go.
