Young Noble Be Monster Slaying -
Chapter 890: I Finally Killed You (I)
There were said to be three thousand Great Daos in the world, yet those still undiscovered by living beings far outnumbered those already known.
An Eminent One from one of the sects in the Divine Nine had once remarked, "To myself, I am only a child playing on the beach, feeling gleeful to have comprehended another Great Dao, while vast oceans of Great Daos lie undiscovered before me."[1]
The deeper a person delved into the cultivation of the Dao, the more they would realize how boundless the Great Daos truly were.
Thus, in the eyes of the Black Golden Crow, Chu Liang must have comprehended some sort of Great Dao of Multiplication—one that granted him the divine ability to split into more versions of himself whenever he was attacked, like a multiplying virus.
Whatever the truth behind it, the demon race was helpless. The Divine Demon God was in Chu Liang's hands.
Before long, the Yu Dynasty's National Master Qu Hu, the Celestial Official Li Chengfeng of the Imperial Supervisory Bureau, and Mount Shu Sect's Fragrant Tiger Lin Bei arrived atop the Mountain Range of the Seven Kings. All of them were members of the human diplomatic envoy group, and they had come just in time to witness the scene of Chu Liang holding the demon god hostage to command the demon kings.
National Master Qu Hu was stunned. He had not expected Chu Liang to actually pull it off.
Li Chengfeng, on the other hand, had somewhat anticipated this outcome. He was more familiar than most with Chu Liang's uncanny talents.
Lin Bei wore a calm and satisfied expression. After all, this had been Chu Liang's plan from the start. Lin Bei had never doubted his brother for a second. The only thing he had prepared in advance was a proud look that clearly said, As expected of my bro.
As the envoys gathered, the Six-Winged Flood Dragon was the first to speak. "We extended a sincere invitation to negotiate with the human race, yet you arrived here offending our Divine Demon God. This is rather disgraceful."
Chu Liang responded with a calm smile. "Demon kings, if you were truly sincere, you would not have set up a grand formation outside the mountain range. I came here to negotiate face-to-face with the Divine Demon God herself."
"Exactly. Who's offending the Demon God?" Lin Bei added with a grin. "We're all friends here. It's perfectly reasonable to drop by and say hello."
Caiyi stepped forward and said, "Our demands are reasonable as well. Why are the Yu Dynasty and the sects of the Divine Nine and Terrestrial Ten hesitating and deliberately stalling? Are we demons still not qualified to request for the Western Regions, even with a Hallowed One at the ninth realm among us?"
To that, Li Chengfeng replied, "Demon King of the Verdant Foxhills, our hesitation was never intentional. The kingdoms of the Western Regions do not fall under the jurisdiction of the Yu Dynasty, nor are they governed by the sects in the Divine Nine or Terrestrial Ten. We have no authority to force their people to leave their homes. It would require careful negotiations with many parties to persuade them to give up the land they inhabit. This is not a matter that can be resolved easily."
"Shouldn't it… be easier precisely because of that?" Caiyi replied with a faint smile.
The Western Regions were geographically closer to the demons' home in the Far West. More importantly, the area did not fall under the authority of the Yu Dynasty or the Divine Nine and Terrestrial Ten. Even if those parties had interests in the Western Regions, giving it up would not cost them much.
The kingdoms of the Western Regions were weak and lacked the power to speak for themselves. Those in charge of the negotiations could not truly represent their interests.
And so, if the pressure was great enough, it would only be a matter of time before the human rulers of the Western Regions decide to abandon it altogether.
"But we've found a more suitable place," Chu Liang said with a smile.
The Great High Priest added, "They are offering us the three islands of Penglai instead."
The greatest difference between the Penglai Islands and the Western Regions was that the islands were not connected to the mainland. This separation had always been a major obstacle, even for the once-mighty Penglai Supreme Sect.
Because of that isolation, it had always been difficult for the Penglai Supreme Sect to expand beyond the islands.
Even with the resources provided by the blessed islands, the growth of the Penglai Supreme Sect had always been limited. If the demons of the Far West were to settle on those islands, their scale and population would also remain constrained.
Caiyi's original plan was to avoid a full-scale war, but she wanted more than that. She aimed for a gradual and peaceful integration between the demon race and the human race. With the power of the Demon God serving as a constant threat, the humans would be pressured into slowly merging with the demons. And once that process began, the demons would gain a clear and overwhelming advantage.
That advantage came from a simple truth—anyone with even a single drop of demon blood would forever be marked as a descendant of the demon race. This had already proven true in the case of the rebels from Mount Mang.
Given enough time, and with the humans unable to respond through war, the vast lands of the four seas and nine provinces would inevitably fall under the dominion of demon-blooded descendants.
However, it was now clear that the leaders of the human race had already seen through this plan.
With the Penglai Islands separated from the mainland by open sea, the demons would have no way to cross the sea and infiltrate or gradually erode human society. Peace could be maintained, and the demons would finally have a place to call home. They would no longer have to suffer in the lands of the Far West.
The humans would be satisfied. The demons would be content. If anyone were to feel unhappy about the arrangement, it would most likely be the original inhabitants of the islands or the once-lofty disciples of the Penglai Supreme Sect.
The more Chu Liang thought about it, the more pleased he became.
"No," Caiyi rejected firmly. "The Penglai Supreme Sect helped us revive the Demon God, and I made a promise to preserve their position in this world. If I agreed to let the demons move into the East Sea, I would be breaking that promise."
"But times have changed," Chu Liang replied casually. "Demon King of the Verdant Foxhills, think about it. What better way to protect them than by bringing them under the same roof?"
Caiyi turned away from Chu Liang and bowed respectfully toward Tuntun. "Divine Demon God! The humans press us hard while we ask for nothing more than a corner of land. Please speak for your people. Do not blindly follow the will of mankind!"
Tuntun, who had been quietly munching nearby, lifted her head at the sound of her name and blinked her clear, innocent eyes.
As for the demon kings, none of them held much hope that their Divine Demon God would say anything. They did not expect her to speak up at all.
Though her strength surpassed heaven and earth, it was clear that her intelligence had not fully returned. She was still being led in circles by that human boy, hardly the kind of god anyone could truly rely on.
But then, Tuntun suddenly spoke fluently.
"I think Big Bro Chu Liang makes a lot of sense."
Her voice was calm as she continued, "Isn't peace a good thing? If the humans and demons live across the sea from each other, there will be no strife or war. Everyone can live happily in their own lands. Humans have their loved ones. Demons have their clans. War always brings death. Wouldn't it be better if we simply stopped killing each other?"
Everyone present was stunned by her words.
How did this Demon God, who had always behaved like a little girl, suddenly deliver such a clear and thoughtful speech? Could this be the terrifying learning ability of a ninth-realm being?
Before their astonishment could even fade, Tuntun turned to Chu Liang with a grin and whispered, "Hehe, did I say it right?"
"Ah! Don't ask me! You are exposing me!" Chu Liang whispered back.
Despite feeling speechless, the Great High Priest explained, "Before any of you arrived, that brat spent ages teaching our Divine Demon God to recite that speech. He even told her that if she couldn't memorize it all, just say the first sentence."
Smack.
All the demon kings facepalmed at once, each showing the same expression—one of grief and despair.
