Chapter 32: Two People, Only One Can Stay

Han Rou didn’t say anything, just stared at Jiang Zhou.

This guy, the one two years younger than her, was her older brother.

Jiang Zhou gestured towards Feng Siruo, helping her up as he said, “Let me introduce you. This is your sister-in-law.”

He glanced at the senior girl, then turned to look at Han Rou again.

Han Rou curiously looked at Feng Siruo. “This is my sister-in-law?”

“Yep, just abducted her today.”

“…Alright then. Nice to meet you, sister-in-law.”

Feng Siruo didn’t know how to react, so she instinctively nodded.

But as soon as she did, she realized something was off. Didn’t that just mean she was agreeing with Jiang Zhou’s nonsense?

So she quickly shook her head afterward.

Jiang Zhou didn’t mind.

He waved a hand casually. “Alright, sis, you can go back now.”

Han Rou was baffled. “You made me run all the way here from the training field just for this?”

“Recognizing family! Isn’t that important?”

“You could’ve waited till I was done with my stuff!”

“Can’t wait. If you were late, your sister-in-law would’ve gotten smacked.”

Han Rou was thoroughly confused.

Why would sister-in-law get hit?

And what did that have to do with me?

Did he think I am the kind of sister who would cling to her brother and scare off his girlfriend?

“…What do you mean?”

Jiang Zhou smiled. “Just kidding. Go back now.”

Han Rou gave him a look. “Then I’m leaving?”

“Yeah, I’ll treat you to a meal the day after tomorrow.”

“Like I’d believe you!”

She gave Feng Siruo a glance. “Bye, sister-in-law.”

Feng Siruo’s cheeks suddenly felt hot.

She had never even had a boyfriend before, and now someone was calling her “sister-in-law”?!

“Let me go…” she murmured.

Jiang Zhou snapped back to reality, realizing he was still holding her delicate hand.

But he didn’t let go. Instead, he held on a bit tighter.

“Don’t worry. With me here, there’s nothing to be afraid of.”

Feng Siruo was silent for a moment before saying, “Right now… I’m most afraid of you.”

???

Jiang Zhou was stunned.

Was she… being sly? Since when was Feng Siruo this sharp-tongued?

She never used to say things like this in his past life.

Just then, the dance-uniformed senior girl spoke again.

“Junior… I think maybe there was a misunderstanding earlier.”

“I don’t think so,” Jiang Zhou replied calmly.

The senior was quiet for a beat. “Then… what do you want?”

Jiang Zhou looked at Feng Siruo. “Do you still want to be in the performance?”

“The doctor said participating in events like this is good for my social anxiety.”

“So you do want to?”

She nodded slightly. “Mm.”

Jiang Zhou turned back. “Then I’m sorry, senior. I’d like to ask you to drop out of the welcome event.”

“What did you say?” she said, almost in disbelief.

“My wife wants to stay in the show, so you’ll have to leave. I can’t always be here to watch over her. What if you try to bully her again?”

“I promise I won’t! I’ll take good care of her!”

Jiang Zhou looked at her deeply. “I don’t trust your promises.”

“But I’m the only one doing a dance and a solo! No one can replace me!”

“That’s fine. I’ll sing, and my wife will dance.”

The senior girl scoffed like she’d just heard the funniest joke. “You? Sing? You’re kidding, right?”

At that moment, a female teacher walked out of the dance studio, looking surprised. “Xu Wen, it’s your turn to rehearse. What are you doing out here?”

So her name was Xu Wen. Such a gentle-sounding name for someone so overbearing.

“Nothing, teacher. I just had a little issue to handle.”

“Well, get in there. Don’t waste time.”

Just then, Jiang Zhou turned around and said, “Teacher, Senior Xu has an emergency at home and needs to leave. She won’t be able to perform.”

The teacher frowned. “That won’t do. Without her, we’ll be missing an act.”

“It’s okay. Senior Han Rou knows about it too. She asked me to fill in.”

“Oh? Han Rou sent you?”

“Yes.”

The teacher, who seemed to be on good terms with Han Rou, visibly relaxed. “So, do you sing or dance?”

“I sing. As for dancing… I only know the ‘Young Eagles Take Flight’ routine.”

Feng Siruo nudged him gently. “That’s part of morning exercises…”

“Oh. Then just singing it is.”

“Alright then, come inside and try it out.”

The teacher opened the door and gestured them in.

Jiang Zhou immediately took Feng Siruo’s hand and walked in.

Xu Wen stood there, stunned. Her role… was just gone?

All she’d wanted was to teach a difficult freshman a lesson.

How had she ended up getting replaced?

But she couldn’t expose Jiang Zhou’s lie.

He was Han Rou’s brother and Han Rou, as the student council head, had plenty of ways to get back at her.

Still, she wasn’t willing to give up.

Trying to act all heroic? There’s no way you can actually sing!

Gritting her teeth, she followed them into the rehearsal room.

Inside, a bunch of students were already present.

When they saw someone walk in wearing a military training uniform, they looked up curiously.

Was there a new act added to the freshman performance?

“Everyone, quiet down for a moment,” the teacher clapped her hands. “There’s a piece I need to review. You can practice afterward.”

“Okay, teacher.”

All the performers sat down immediately.

They were a bit tired anyway and now there was a bonus act to watch? Even better.

The teacher turned to Jiang Zhou. “What song do you plan to sing?”

What song…?

Jiang Zhou thought hard.

Isn’t this like being thrown into the deep end?

He acted on impulse and now had to deliver on something tricky.

But in his past life, he’d been a bit of a karaoke king.

Everyone who heard him sing said he was decent.

Alright then, time for something fresh.

He was a walking cheat code, after all.

Why not pull out a hit song that hadn’t been released yet?

“I’m going to sing a song called The Wind Rises,” he said.

“Huh? Who’s the original artist? I’ve never heard of it.”

“I poured my heart and soul into writing this over more than ten years.”

With a straight face, Jiang Zhou stole a hit song from his past life.

Miyazaki’s movie hadn’t been released yet.

And the band “Buyi with Chili” hadn’t made their adaptation.

So clearly, no one here would’ve heard it, right?

But the moment he finished, the entire room burst into laughter.

Over a decade of hard work?

This guy is a freshman, probably 18 or 19 at most.

So he started writing songs… straight out of the womb?

What a joke.

Xu Wen was laughing the loudest.

Write a song, huh? What a liar.

If his performance tanked, then her original act might still be kept!

The teacher looked at Jiang Zhou. “You’re sure?”

“I’m sure.”

“Do you have an instrumental?”

“Nope. I’ll sing a cappella. Is that okay?”

The teacher nodded and handed him a microphone.

Jiang Zhou took it, thinking carefully about the lyrics.

What is the first line again?

“Walking slowly, stopping now and then…”

Yeah, that sounds about right.

At that moment, Feng Siruo stared at him, eyes full of curiosity.

Everything that had happened today was bizarre…

But the most baffling part of all was this guy, Jiang Zhou.

Popping up out of nowhere, suddenly calling her his wife…
