World's No. 1 Swordsman -
Chapter 83: Becoming a Blade of Death
Chapter 83: Becoming a Blade of Death
Though slightly inexperienced at the beginning, Jingyun gradually found her rhythm and handled the fight with increasing ease. The treasured sword in her hand was no ordinary weapon, and her cultivation far surpassed that of the Daoist elder. Capturing him was merely a matter of time.
Nevertheless, Wang Sheng, who was watching from the side, frowned slightly.
The evil Daoist had far more experience in combat than his martial aunt. Although he appeared to be at a disadvantage, he still had room to maneuver, and he would always glance at Wang Sheng with a hint of caution.
It was only a matter of time before the Daoist elder used the unconscious girl on the bed as leverage or pulled some unexpected trick, forcing his martial aunt into a passive position.
Jingyun swiftly inscribed a talisman with her short sword, making a golden talisman materialize out of thin air and press down on the Daoist elder.
The sinister Daoist sneered as he spat out a jet of inky-black mist that instantly shattered the golden talisman. He then formed a claw with his left hand and launched several chilling palm phantasms. Jingyun instinctively dodged to the side, forcing her to abandon her offense.
The Daoist elder's eyes glinted with malice as he reached for the unconscious girl on the large bed. However, just before he could lunge forward, a faint whistle came from the side.
Despite his age, his reaction speed was still sharp. Sensing the incoming danger through his spiritual consciousness, the evil Daoist froze for an instant but quickly flipped backward.
A loud crack rang out as three holes were blasted into the headboard of the bed.
A strand of gray-white hair fell through the air, and a trickle of black blood spurted from the Daoist elder's cheek.
He hadn't even regained his balance yet when his gaze snapped toward the direction of the sword energy, causing his expression to drastically darken. The young sword cultivator, who had severely injured his useless disciple, was now unleashing waves of sword energy at him. The power behind them startled even Jingyun.
"You dare, Boy?!"
His roar carried more bluster than confidence. Before he could even finish the sentence, a dozen sword energy attacks were launched at him.
Though the evil Daoist managed to create a shield of true essence, he still sustained seven or eight shallow wounds. The impact also sent him flying backward and crashing hard against the wall.
"Martial Aunt, suppress him with overwhelming force! Show no mercy!"
Wang Sheng's reminder snapped Jingyun out of her daze. Regaining focus, she infused her short sword with her immense cultivation and swung it diagonally at the Daoist elder.
The strike was powerful, but it lacked speed and precision.
The Daoist elder desperately launched himself off the wall and lunged straight at Wang Sheng, causing Jingyun's attack to cut straight through the wall instead.
Nevertheless, Wang Sheng quickly saw through his plan. The Daoist elder was merely feigning an attack on him in an attempt to break away and escape.
Without hesitation, Wang Sheng used the Seven-Star Footwork and took a defensive stance. Within the tight space near the corner and doorway, he unleashed a flurry of sword phantasms, blocking the Daoist elder.
"You're courting death!" the Daoist elder exclaimed as he retaliated with a flurry of palm strikes. With his hands glowing cyan, he intercepted Wang Sheng's sword phantasms barehanded, sending waves of chilling yin qi surging toward him.
Wang Sheng snorted coldly. With a calm expression, he took two steps back. His aggressive swordplay suddenly slowed, and the sword tip traced the shape of a yin-yang koi. With a push of his left hand, the chilling yin aura turned into a warm breeze and flowed back toward the Daoist elder.
He had switched from Seven-Star Sword Intent to Dual-Polarity Sword Intent. Though he had yet to fully master the transition between the two, and the connection was rough at best, it was enough to stop the Daoist elder in his tracks.
In just a few seconds, the Daoist elder found himself cornered. The wide-open door to the adjacent bedroom was his only possible escape route.
Jingyun closed in from behind, her sword radiating a chilling light as she aimed to take his life.
The Daoist elder clenched his teeth, realizing that he was at a dead end. Either of the two cultivators alone could already give him trouble. Now, they were working together to end his life, one focusing on defense while the other on offense.
Before the resurgence of the world's primal qi, he had relied on sinister techniques inherited from his Daoist lineage to commit countless crimes. Over the decades, an untold number of women had fallen victim to his depravity, all to further his cultivation.
When primal qi returned, his cultivation advanced by leaps and bounds. Decades of accumulation quickly transformed into a powerful foundation. Now, his true essence was already on par with an Illusory Core Realm cultivator, and his spiritual consciousness had surpassed the later stages of the Seed Formation Realm.
However, his cultivation method had a fatal flaw: it absorbed yin and rejected yang. To break through to the Illusory Core Realm, he had to harvest pure yin energy.
Pure yin constitutions were already rare, and finding a virgin with such a constitution was entirely dependent on fate. Now, his greatest strength had become his greatest weakness.
I have already stepped into the Illusory Core Realm! How could I end up in such a dire situation and humiliated by such a young sword cultivator?!
The evil Daoist cursed inwardly and unleashed another technique, making a glowing blue flame erupt on his forehead and form a mark. An overwhelming surge of spiritual consciousness then burst forth. Transforming into phantasms of long spears, they shot toward Wang Sheng and Jingyun.
The Daoist elder's spiritual consciousness was imbued with a venomous, malicious intent that made Wang Sheng involuntarily draw a sharp breath. A wave of icy dread also washed over him, making his heart clench and his hair stand on end.
For a brief moment, he heard a vicious voice whispering in his ear.
"I will wipe out your entire sect, slaughter your entire family, and violate every woman connected to you until they die!"
The evil Daoist's spiritual consciousness attack was meant to plant fear in his opponent's mind, shaking their Dao Heart and creating an escape route for him.
However, though Wang Sheng's Dao Heart trembled violently, fear did not rise within him, and his instincts did not tell him to dodge. On the contrary, his mind filled with images of his mother and senior sister. The malicious thoughts within the evil Daoist's spiritual consciousness echoed in his heart, making his eyes widen and bloodshot veins creep into them.
How could his Dao Heart possibly remain clear? If he could not protect them even with the Dao and his sword cultivation, then what was the point of his second life?
Wang Sheng refused to retreat. Abyss Listener trembled violently, and two sword intents erupted from within him.
The events that followed all happened in the blink of an eye. The evil Daoist, who was still unleashing his spiritual consciousness, faintly heard two sword cries. The young man before him then seemingly turned from a person to a towering longsword.
Dual-Polarity and Seven-Star Sword Intents!
A formless sword swept across, slicing through every phantasmal spear. Right after, a flash of sword radiance burst from Wang Sheng's forehead and shot straight toward the Daoist elder's head.
Their spiritual consciousness clashed!
Forced into a desperate situation, Wang Sheng had instinctively unleashed a Daoist art that used spiritual consciousness as a weapon. In doing so, he had stepped onto the threshold of the realm of sword momentum.
The Daoist elder flung himself to the side, barely dodging Wang Sheng's counterattack. He crashed into the adjacent bedroom, where his unconscious disciple lay.
Without hesitation, he grabbed his beloved disciple from the floor and hurled him outside the door like a discarded sack. He then gazed at Wang Sheng with terror.
He's barely at the Seed Formation Realm, yet he's already this strong?!
Though the evil Daoist was unwilling to admit it, he was beginning to fear Wang Sheng.
Despite being filled with killing intent, Wang Sheng did not strike the unconscious evil cultivator dead. Instead, he merely sent him flying with a palm strike. His eyes remained locked onto the Daoist elder.
Jingyun rushed in from the side, but she was slower than the young sword cultivator. With his true essence surging, he charged forward like lightning.
At that moment, Wang Sheng had become a sword of death.
The Daoist elder watched Wang Sheng close in on him with fierce sword intent. Though terrified and shaken to the core, he was still ruthless.
Daring not to face him head-on, he instead retreated rapidly toward the window. He then hit the thick windowpane with a powerful palm strike, shattering it instantly. A gust of wind howled in from outside.
He shot Wang Sheng a vicious glare and unleashed more than ten claw phantasms before flipping out of the window.
However, a dark shadow followed closely behind. Without hesitation, Wang Sheng had grabbed onto the curtain with his left hand and dove out of the window, plunging straight down.
It was as if the eighteen-story, over-sixty-meter drop to the ground meant nothing.
As long as the evil Daoist lived, he would never have peace of mind. The fiend had to die tonight.
"Fei Yu!" Jingyun cried out and rushed forward, but she was a step too late. Wang Sheng had already torn the curtain free, leaving her with no other option but to simply look down from the window.
Parallel to the ground, Wang Sheng sprinted down the hotel walls and windows at an alarming speed. Meanwhile, the free-falling Daoist elder had already prepared to slow his descent using true essence. Though he had a way to survive the fall, he could still end up suffering some injuries.
Within the span of just one or two seconds, a sharp whistle echoed behind him, making his face twist in horror. Turning his head, his eyes widened in utter disbelief.
Behind him, a sword was tearing through the sky!
Abyss Listener wrenched in Wang Sheng's grasp. Imbued within it was his murderous intent, the full force of his true essence, the Seven-Star Sword Intent, and the Dual-Polarity Sword Intent.
A dazzling, unstoppable streak of light cut through two layers of glass before piercing straight into the Daoist elder's back.
"You...!" The fierce winds and spraying blood drowned his words out before they could even leave his lips.
Wang Sheng aimed his palm at the ground and blasted his true essence out of it at full force, slowing his descent. He then scraped his legs against the wall as he tried to further reduce his speed. However, it seemed he was too late!
A force pulled at his shoulder, but it only slightly weakened the momentum of his fall. Nevertheless, Wang Sheng showed not even a trace of panic in his eyes.
Gathering all his remaining strength into his legs, he pushed off the wall with one final explosive burst. At the last second, just before he hit the ground, he propelled himself diagonally upward.
Wang Sheng heard a sharp crack, and pain shot through both his ankles right after. Still, he did not so much as grunt. True essence surged through him, further decelerating his fall, until he finally drifted toward the ground from a height of over ten meters.
Unable to land on his feet, he simply let himself fall to his knees on the asphalt of the parking lot.
Before him lay the Daoist elder, his body reduced to a mangled heap. Next to him was Abyss Listener, now severed in half.
The treasured sword, which had accompanied Wang Sheng for only a short time, had fought ghosts and battled evil cultivators alongside him. And now, it was broken.
"I'm sorry."
Wang Sheng's lips moved slightly as he pulled Abyss Listener to him and held it in his hand.
A sharp pain flared across his forehead, and a wave of exhaustion swept over him. He knew that his spiritual consciousness had been drained too severely. The clash with the evil Daoist had taken a toll, and he had suffered a heavy blow.
He swayed for a moment before falling backward, the hilt of Abyss Listener still in his grip.
A woman descended from above, catching him just in time.
"Fei Yu, are you alright?"
As he lost consciousness, a final thought drifted through his mind.
Martial Aunt Jingyun doesn't just lack combat experience. Her state of mind needs a bit of work as well. Why is she in such a hurry to transfer true essence to me? We don't even practice the same techniques...
"Wang Sheng!"
"Daoist Master Wang!"
Nearby, Bulldozer rushed over with several armed policemen. Shen Qianlin, who had been standing among them, paled with fright.
