Chapter 52: The Supernatural Revelation Club
Chapter 52: The Supernatural Revelation Club
"Sis, let me introduce you to a friend."
"Mm!"
Shen Qianlin gracefully and confidently introduced herself. "Hello, I'm Shen Qianlin, Wang Sheng's schoolmate back in high school. I was a grade above him. It's a pleasure to meet you."
For some reason, she extended her right hand for a handshake, an unusually proactive gesture on her part.
Mu Wanxuan glanced at Wang Sheng. When her junior brother nodded slightly, she shook hands with Shen Qianlin. A hint of confusion then flashed in her eyes.
Mu Wanxuan didn't discover something new; she merely pondered who held a higher rank between her and Shen Qianlin since they were both Wang Sheng's senior sisters.
Shen Qianlin's eloquence and social skills surprised even Wang Sheng. In just a few words, she had fostered a warm and friendly atmosphere at the table.
She teased Wang Sheng with a few lighthearted remarks, gave Mu Wanxuan subtle compliments, and quickly dispelled any awkwardness between them.
Since Mu Wanxuan wasn't skilled at expressing her thoughts verbally, she quietly ate her meal while listening to the conversation between Wang Sheng and Shen Qianlin.
At one point, Wang Sheng noticed a trace of envy in Mu Wanxuan's eyes as she looked at Shen Qianlin. Though it vanished quickly, he would never forget about it and knew that he couldn't ignore it.
Using his spiritual consciousness, Wang Sheng caught snippets of students whispering nearby. He smiled at Shen Qianlin. "Senior Sister, you seem to be quite popular."
Shen Qianlin sighed softly. "I've been running errands for the student council ever since a senior roped me in while I was a freshman. It's been three years now."
The student council?
The idea of asking Shen Qianlin to help them with the investigation briefly crossed Wang Sheng's mind, but he quickly dismissed it.
He couldn't predict how big this incident could become.
Delving into the topic, Wang Sheng asked Shen Qianlin about her experiences in the student council. The more she shared, the more impressed he became with her achievements.
No wonder so many students around them kept stealing glances at her. Even Chi Wen, who had earlier refused to exchange contact information with Wang Sheng, occasionally looked over with her dormmates.
Shen Qianlin was a campus celebrity and one of the university's most prominent figures. Her reputation came with a set of striking labels: a top and outstanding student, the former vice president of the student council, and currently the head of the Arts and Literature Club.
She was also active in the calligraphy and archery clubs, had won numerous awards in calligraphy competitions, and had been chosen as the campus ambassador twice. She had even represented the university at a few international events.
In addition, Shen Qianlin's name frequently appeared on unofficial campus beauty ranking lists. Her clean and pure image, coupled with the fact that she was nearing her final year without ever having dated, had garnered her a significant following.
With her packed schedule of responsibilities and stellar academic performance, it was clear why she had no time for romance.
Listening to the nearby students' chatter about her through his spiritual consciousness, Wang Sheng couldn't help but give Shen Qianlin a thumbs-up.
On the other hand, he couldn't help but feel that he hadn't been that competent, even though this was his second life. After regressing, he went straight into cultivation on the mountain. Compared to him, his senior seemed more... accomplished.
After dinner, Shen Qianlin invited them to take a walk by the lake behind the campus. Wang Sheng and Mu Wanxuan agreed happily.
It wasn't that Shen Qianlin wanted to play third wheel. She was simply too curious about why Wang Sheng had suddenly come to her university and wanted to find a quiet spot to ask him directly.
The benches around the lake were usually a haven for young couples.
A few shaky street lights illuminated the area as night fell. Around the small lake, faint glows from phone screens and couples embracing each other dotted the shore.
Mu Wanxuan paid no attention to them. She simply admired the gentle reflections on the lake's surface.
Shen Qianlin, on the other hand, seemed used to such sights. As they walked, she warmly introduced the history and stories behind the lake, making them wonder if she was studying a major related to storytelling or tourism.
Meanwhile, Wang Sheng occasionally glanced at his phone. The Special Investigation Unit kept sending updates on Chi Wen.
After dinner, she went to the library to study with her classmates, behaving like a model student. For now, nothing unusual had happened.
Finally, the three reached a relatively secluded spot.
Unable to hold back any longer, Shen Qianlin asked, "Wang Sheng, what's going on? How did you suddenly become an exchange student? Back then, I even tried to persuade you not to drop out."
"Take a guess," Wang Sheng replied with a chuckle. His answer amused Mu Wanxuan as well.
Shen Qianlin rolled her eyes lightly but quickly regained the composed demeanor of a student council president. She locked her gaze at Wang Sheng.
Remembering Wang Sheng's earlier warning not to bring up the past, she instinctively lowered her voice. "Last time we talked, weren't you still on... Mount Wudang?"
"I just came down the mountain a few days ago," Wang Sheng explained. "Senior Sister, I don't want to involve you in anything strange, so it's best if you don't ask too much. Of course, if you insist, I can tell you, but you'll have to keep everything I say a secret. I might also need your help."
Shen Qianlin pursed her lips for a moment, then muttered, "Why do you have to be so mysterious? You're like an undercover agent."
She always manages to hit the nail on the head with her casual remarks.
Wang Sheng leaned closer to Mu Wanxuan and whispered a few words. Mu Wanxuan snapped her fingers lightly, spreading her spiritual consciousness to monitor the surroundings.
Half a minute later, Wang Sheng asked. "Senior sister, have you made up your mind?"
"Yes, I've thought it through. I still... want to know what's going on." Shen Qianlin stared at Wang Sheng with determination. "This will sound cliché, but you saved my life. If you need my help, I won't refuse, no matter the circumstances."
Mu Wanxuan blinked, now the one looking intrigued.
Wang Sheng didn't bring up the events from back then. It was merely a small gesture on his part.
"You can think of me as an honorary policeman. I'm here on assignment to investigate some suspicious individuals hiding in this school," he explained.
"Suspicious individuals?" Shen Qianlin blinked. "Are people like that really on campus?"
"That's the lead we've gotten," Wang Sheng replied. "Since you work for the student council, how much do you know about the clubs?"
"Well, quite a lot. After all, we meet weekly, and the Department of Literature and Arts often organizes competitions for most of the clubs..." Shen Qianlin trailed off. She then looked at Wang Sheng nervously. "Is this a serious matter?"
"Nothing's confirmed yet," Wang Sheng said as he leaned on the railing, deep in thought.
After some time, he turned his head and locked eyes with Shen Qianlin. Her heartbeat quickened, and she found it a little hard to breathe.
"Has anyone ever invited you to join any strange clubs?"
"What counts as a strange club? A lot of our clubs here have rather peculiar themes."
Wang Sheng pondered for a moment. "Anything related to martial arts, magic, longevity, health preservation, or even cultivating immortality?"
"Immortality cultivation and health preservation?" Shen Qianlin looked at Wang Sheng with a mix of amusement and disbelief. "The school has strict rules for club applications and approvals. A club like that would never pass. We do have two or three martial arts clubs, though."
"Have you ever heard anyone mention anything like that?"
Shen Qianlin thought deeply for a moment, seemingly trying to recall something. "I think I saw a handwritten poster about something like that... Wait, I remember someone posted a picture of it on their social media. Let me look for it."
She pulled out her phone and began searching. Wang Sheng stood quietly beside her, watching the side of her face.
Soon, Mu Wanxuan poked Wang Sheng's arm. "Someone."
He immediately understood what she meant: someone was observing them.
Following the direction that Mu Wanxuan's spiritual consciousness indicated, Wang Sheng spotted a figure standing at the corner of a nearby path. The person seemed to be staring blankly at the lake while holding a cigarette.
With a subtle check, Wang Sheng detected faint, fragmented traces of true essence within the individual.
Oddly enough, Wang Sheng felt a sense of shared misfortune. They were probably much like his past self, who only had a superficial understanding of cultivation. They had no systematic methods and couldn't even conceal their energy levels.
Breaking through to the Spirit Convergence Realm would be nearly impossible for them. They would toil away for half their lives only to remain as an ordinary human in the end.
Wang Sheng signaled Mu Wanxuan not to act rashly. "Pretend we didn't notice them."
"Found it!" Shen Qianlin exclaimed.
However, Wang Sheng gestured for her to not speak further. Hence, she instead handed her phone to Wang Sheng.
Wang Sheng deliberately raised his voice a little. "Woah, Senior Sister, you've kept a photo from three years ago? That's quite impressive."
"What should I say?" Shen Qianlin whispered.
"Just smile."
"Oh, uh, let me get into character," Shen Qianlin said seriously before breaking into a series of exaggerated giggles. "Hehe, haha, hahahaha..."
Wang Sheng almost broke into laughter. Even Mu Wanxuan couldn't help but chuckle, making Shen Qianlin look wounded.
Soon, they all turned their attention to Shen Qianlin's phone screen. The handwritten poster on the bulletin board gave Wang Sheng an immediate sense of unease.

The Supernatural Revelation Club?
These terms felt deeply unsettling in this period, just over two years since the resurgence of primal qi.
"This poster appeared over a month ago," Shen Qianlin commented, her memory becoming clearer. "Posters require prior approval, so this one was taken down the same day. Someone posted a picture of it on their social media, and I found it pretty funny at the time."
"Send me the photo. You've already helped a lot with this. I'll have someone protect you in secret. From now on, just act like you've never seen me or my senior sister."
Senior Sister... Shen Qianlin pondered for a moment. So she's the senior sister he's been mentioning in his texts all along.
No wonder he seemed so attached to life on the mountain. If she hadn't met Mu Wanxuan today, she might have thought that he was planning to become a full-fledged Daoist priest.
