Chapter 41: The Inheritance of the Secret Dimension

......

But before "D" left the shop, the voice of the old man came from behind him.. hoarse, as if sand was scraping his throat from the inside:

"I can offer you secret information… something quite interesting."

"D" paused at the threshold, half his body outside the door, the other half still inside. He didn’t turn immediately, but slowly rotated his head, looking back at the old man with a gaze void of curiosity.. yet there was something hidden in it… something like caution.

The old man gave a faint smile, then reached beneath the table and pulled out another stone. It was different from the first.. a dark gray color, as though shadows had been carved within it.

He tossed it lightly into the air, and "D" caught it reflexively. He placed it in his palm, then sent his spiritual sense into it.

A moment… then a flash.

What he saw wasn’t much, but it was enough.

“Information about an inheritance that will appear in a secret dimension said to open soon.”

The title alone was enough to plant silence deep within him.

“Inheritance”… and “Secret Dimension”? These were not trivial words in a world governed by power and rare opportunities.

"D" raised his eyes toward the old man, and for the first time, there was something close to interest in them.

The old man spoke in a calm voice:

"No one knows who left the inheritance, or what it contains exactly, but there are rumors it’s connected to one of the ancients… or perhaps a Rule Master who vanished thousands of years ago."

He paused for a second, then added:

"Places like that don’t open often. Those who enter may not return. And those who do… may not return the same."

"D" remained silent, then said coldly:

"How much for the details?"

The old man smiled.. a smile void of goodwill.

In a low but firm voice, the old man replied:

"The details… are not for sale."

"D" raised an eyebrow slightly. That wasn’t the answer he expected.

The old man continued: "If you want the details, you’ll have to join me when the secret dimension opens. I will lead the way.. but what we’ll find there will require more than just knowledge. I need someone like you."

"D" stayed quiet for a moment, as if weighing something in his mind. Then he said:

"I’ll think about it."

The old man nodded, as if he had expected that answer.

"Very well. Ten days from now, outside the city, at the Black Hajar Oasis… if you decide to join me, be there."

"D" left the shop without another word, but in his eyes, there was something else… something cold and dangerous.

As he walked through the streets of Black Sand City, he wasn’t thinking about cooperation.. he was thinking about possibilities.

"Do I really need him? I could just torture him… extract everything he knows."

He thought coldly.

The old man looked weak, fragile, but "D" had learned never to underestimate anyone. The man had access to unreleased information, and a stone holding rare data about an inheritance in a secret dimension.. he couldn’t be just another charlatan.

"I’ll decide what to do with him in ten days."

For now… "D" had to prepare.

If the old man knew what was going through "D’s" mind, he wouldn’t have set a date.. he would’ve dug a grave.

After leaving the shop, "D" walked slowly through the narrow alleys of Black Sand City.

He didn’t look around. He wasn’t interested in the markets, or the voices of people, or the eyes of beggars watching him from the shadows. His thoughts were focused on one thing: the paper the old man had laid before him.. that seed planted silently in his mind… “Inheritance in a secret dimension.”

He reached one of the old inns at the edge of the city. The building was simple, dark stone walls covered with a thin layer of dust. No one dared stay long on the outskirts.. being near the city's borders meant nearing the abandoned… and the terrifying.

"D" entered quietly, handed over a few primitive stones without speaking, then climbed to the upper floor and rented a small, dark room, furnished only with a rough floor mat and a stone table.

He sat at the center of the room, his posture straight as a sword, eyes closed, breath slow… until he seemed like a statue carved from silence.

In this world, survival wasn’t for the strongest alone.. it was for those who understood.

Rule Masters weren’t just warriors.. they were interpreters of existence itself. Every power they gained wasn’t just strength.. it was a new vision of reality.

"D" was in the second layer of the Rule Path, and had mastered his first law: the Law of Devouring.

At this stage, a second-layer Rule Master could begin comprehending another secondary law.

But not just any law. The one chosen now would shape part of his future path.

"D" slowly raised his right hand and opened his palm.

From the void, hazy threads began to gather.. not ordinary energy, but primordial energy: the core essence of everything living and non-living in this world.

"D" began drawing the energy into himself.. slowly, without haste.

Absorbing energy wasn’t just a mechanical process… it was spiritual. Primordial energy was like a living being.. it rejected entering a body that wasn’t in harmony with itself.

That’s why "D" entered isolation.

Days passed.

He sat without moving. Slept only minutes at a time. Didn’t eat. Didn’t speak.

And inside him… something was forming.

He watched the energy, tested its reactions, sometimes whispered to it in his soul.

Then… on the third day of isolation, something happened.

As his breath flowed quietly, the primordial energy gathered before him in a strange form… it wasn’t a sphere, nor light. It was a straight line.. slanted, dark in color, pulsing slowly.

"D" felt that this shape… wasn’t random.

Four days had passed since "D" entered the silence of isolation and contemplation.

Everything in his room was still as a grave.. except for the ripples of primordial energy floating in the air.

And even though second-layer Rule Masters were allowed to choose a new secondary law, "D"…

Did not need to.

He had long resolved his internal path.

He had chosen the Law of Devouring as his main law, and the Law of Darkness as his secondary one.

These weren’t random choices…

They were extensions of what he was.

“Devouring” was his core.

“Darkness” was his shell.

"D" was rare.

Not because his laws were unique.. but because he understood them together… and connected them.

Many Rule Masters chose distant, disconnected laws.. trying to gain diversity of powers, without realizing that true power lay in cohesion.

"D" wasn’t searching for variety.

He was searching for depth.

And with every law a Rule Master added to their path, their journey toward understanding became more difficult.

In this world, the further a Rule Master advanced, the more complex and obscure the laws became.

At first, energy responded quickly.. like a child learning to walk. But now… every atom of primordial energy had become its own entity, demanding an explanation, a motivation, a reason to join a new domain.

That’s why progress on the path wasn’t just about accumulating energy…

It was a philosophical struggle with the universe.

Those who feared themselves… did not deserve the laws of the cosmos.

Only five days remained.

Then… the meeting with the old man.
