Chapter 264: 161: See Yan Nai’er again! The situation!_2
Suo Lun instinctively wanted to open the secret message, but after hesitating for a moment, he did not open it and tucked it into his own bosom.
Then, Suo Lun quickly stripped the man of his armor, black robe, and mask, and found a special black iron token.
This was a person from Heibing Mansion!
Heibing Mansion was the most mysterious and powerful secret department of the Rage Wave Kingdom. It was said that Heibing Mansion was omnipotent and omnipresent.
Even Suo Lun heard from Zhi Ting that the reason why Sword Master Bi Xiao’s incestuous relationship with his sister was known to the royal family was because the most trusted samurai of his family had been secretly subverted by Heibing Mansion.
However, the legendary Heibing Mansion was only supposed to take orders from the King, but now the situation seemed to have become a bit complicated.
Turing Duo was a person from Heibing Mansion and had been working for Heibing Mansion since she was fifteen.
Dressing in the secret envoy’s armor, black robe, and mask, and pocketing the token, Suo Lun transformed into a secret envoy from the Rage Wave Heibing Mansion.
Then, he buried the true secret envoy’s body deep in a sandpit.
The reason Suo Lun impersonated a secret envoy from the Rage Wave Kingdom’s Heibing Mansion was, firstly, to gather information and secondly, to enter directly into Tianye Allied Forces and smoothly enter into Tianye City.
Because at this time, the city of the dead was already surrounded tightly, and no one could enter the ancient city.
...
Mounting the horse of the Heibing Mansion messenger, Suo Lun continued to gallop furiously.
After changing horses constantly along the way, he covered three hundred li in three hours. At last, Huangquan Ancient City came into sight ahead.
By this time, it was already evening, and night was about to fall.
The first thing Suo Lun saw was not Huangquan Ancient City, but the densely packed Tianye City Allied Forces, at least thirty to forty thousand strong.
Once an army surpassed ten thousand, it was boundless, let alone thirty to forty thousand.
Huangquan Ancient City, though called a city, was more like a large castle, occupying only a thousand acres.
Forty thousand Allied Forces were enough to surround the entire ancient city so tightly that there was no escape, and the land for several kilometers around was covered with troops and tents everywhere.
This legion of several tens of thousands had clearly prepared for a protracted siege, not only setting up tents but also beginning to construct siege works.
Moreover, many mercenaries and wandering samurai continually flocked to the area, making the situation increasingly dire.
And within Huangquan Ancient City, now surrounded by tens of thousands of troops, everything was silent, to the point where not even a single lookout could be seen on the city walls.
A chill ran through Suo Lun’s heart. He did not know the situation inside the city, but it looked worse than the worst-case scenario.
The situation of the Silver Wolf Legion had originally been very promising, and despite the dangers, they had always been proactive. But after Yan Nai’er was attacked, the Silver Wolf Legion was headless, and the situation had deteriorated ever since.
Suo Lun could only pray that Yan Nai’er was not grievously injured.
He rode his steed straight through to the front of the Tianye City Allied Forces and said, "I have a secret letter to present to Miss Yan Shuang, make way immediately."
One of the commanding officers was stunned and then said, "Please wait, honored envoy, I will go report at once."
Immediately, Suo Lun could only pray in his heart that Turing Duo was not in the army.
Shortly afterward, that officer rushed back to Suo Lun, saying, "The City Lord invites the honored envoy to the commander’s tent."
Suo Lun’s heart skipped a beat, and his brow furrowed as he said, "I am here to send a letter to Huangquan Ancient City, why do I need to see him?"
The officer said, "That is beyond my knowledge. I can only obey orders, please follow me, honored envoy."
Following that, the eight samurai behind him stepped forward, subtly surrounding Suo Lun in the middle.
"Lead the way," Suo Lun said coldly.
Then, under the watchful eyes and surrounded by eight samurai, Suo Lun proceeded to the Central Army tent of the Tianye Allied Forces.
Fortunately, Turing Duo was not there, only Lord Ji Gang of Tianye City and his trusted samurai were present.
Ji Gang cast off his humility shown previously in front of Fang Qingshu, his gaze shot towards Suo Lun like lightning, and he said, "Who is the superior officer of the honored envoy?"
"No comment," replied Suo Lun coldly.
"Whom does the honored envoy bring the letter for?" Ji Gang asked again.
"No comment," replied Suo Lun.
Ji Gang said, "It’s not that I don’t trust the honored envoy, but the situation is chaotic with many spies slipping in. Some even kill messengers on their way, swap their clothes, and take their place. We must be vigilant."
With that, his gaze fixed on Suo Lun, immovable, as if trying to find any sign of deceit in his eyes.
But Suo Lun, silent as ever, simply stared coldly at Ji Gang.
"How about this?" Ji Gang said, "Show me your token as a token of respect, to verify your identity, shall we? Just show me the token, and I’ll let you pass. After all, no one wants to offend the Heibing Mansion of the Rage Wave Kingdom, myself included."
Suo Lun was tempted to take out the token, but quickly he stopped all movements.
Because his sharp spiritual power had detected the pride and trickery with which Ji Gang was currently suffused.
This was a test; as merely the Lord of Tianye City, Ji Gang had no authority to demand that an envoy from Rage Wave Kingdom’s Heibing Mansion show their token. If Suo Lun complied, it would only prove that he was an impostor.
Hence, Suo Lun continued coldly, "No comment!"
From start to finish, Suo Lun maintained only one facial expression, one line of dialogue.
As expected, Lord Ji Gang of Tianye City let out a sigh of relief, and said, "The esteemed envoy is indeed genuine. Please don’t blame me for making a big deal out of nothing; the recent situation has been extremely complicated. I will have someone lead the esteemed envoy into Huangquan Ancient City at once."
After speaking, his gaze still clung tightly to Suo Lun; this old fox was still trying his tricks and tests.
"No, I will go alone," Suo Lun said decisively, then walked directly towards the outside.
As expected, Ji Gang didn’t obstruct him and said, "Pass the order down, let the esteemed envoy into the ancient city."
...
Following that, Suo Lun made a beeline for the city, cutting through the encirclement of the Tianye Allied Forces, and entered Huangquan Ancient City.
When he was still a hundred meters away from the city gate, an arrow aimed at him. It turned out to be Fen Mo, an old acquaintance whom he hadn’t expected to return.
"Who goes there?" Fen Mo said coldly.
"An envoy from Rage Wave, come to see Miss Yan Shuang," Suo Lun called out.
Then, Fen Mo slightly lowered his bow and said, "Come in!"
Suo Lun entered the gate alone. As soon as he was inside, the gate behind him closed, then dozens of people surrounded him, and a sword was quickly placed against his neck.
Fen Mo chuckled coldly, "The assassin who tried to kill Miss Yan Shuang previously came from Rage Wave Kingdom’s Heibing Mansion. Since another one has come, don’t expect to leave alive, behead him to accompany us in death."
Suo Lun immediately took off his mask and faced Fen Mo, "I am Lanling!"
Fen Mo was shocked, his gaze complex as he said, "You, how did you come to be here?"
He and Suo Lun were once romantic rivals in competition.
"It’s a long story," Suo Lun said. "Where is Miss Yan Shuang? Take me to see her immediately."
Instantly, those present exchanged looks before Fen Mo said, "I don’t have the authority to decide that, I can only report to the commander of thousands."
Then, Fen Mo left to report to the Silver Wolf commander of thousands.
Soon, a lean middle-aged man came out and scrutinized Suo Lun for a good while.
This man was Tu An, the commander of a thousand cavalry of the Silver Wolf Legion, who had followed Yan Yan for over two decades and was one of the people Miss Yan Shuang trusted most.
"Follow me," Tu An said, then led the way inside.
Suo Lun followed him, delving deeper into Huangquan Ancient City.
Along the way, Suo Lun saw many of the Silver Wolf Legion’s samurai lying on the ground in disarray, most with ashen faces, despairing eyes, covered in scars, and reduced to skin and bones.
Clearly, the past month had seen them suffering through battles more horrific than Suo Lun had imagined.
Tu An led Suo Lun to a small building in the inner courtyard. Two female samurai stood guard at the door.
"Lord Tu," they greeted, then looked towards Suo Lun.
"Open the gate," Tu An ordered.
"But..." one of the female samurai began.
"It’s fine, open the gate," Tu An said.
"Yes," the female samurai pushed the gate open.
Suo Lun quickly stepped into the room and at first glance saw the beauty on the bed. His heart skipped a beat, and he exclaimed, "Nai’er, I’m back! How are you? Please be alright!"
