Chapter 1152: 517: Survive from a desperate situation!
Nini’an was reluctant to speak, but she still did. She said, "This changes nothing."
Lanling nodded without saying anything.
No pleas, no words—he simply lay there motionless.
"You won’t say a single word?" Nini’an suddenly raised her voice.
Lanling shook his head and said, "I’m tired of living anyway. Last time, I was killed by my lawfully wedded wife. This time, you kill me—it’s no big deal."
At those words, Nini’an trembled and asked, "What do you mean?"
Lanling simply stared at the sky with wide eyes, showing no intention to respond.
"Why did your wife want to kill you?" Nini’an questioned.
Lanling did not answer.
"Speak! Why did your wife want to kill you?" Nini’an demanded again.
Lanling remained silent, giving off the impression that he was long done with life, essentially telling her to get it over with.
The sword had vanished. Nini’an found a dagger not far from her and realized she could use it to kill Lanling.
He still lay there, unmoving, showing no intention to resist.
Nini’an picked up the dagger, closed her eyes, and attempted to sever Lanling’s head. Several times, she tried to cut, but in the end, the dagger rested on Lanling’s neck.
"I’ll ask you one last time: Are you willing to sever ties with Suo Mo, sever ties with the Foreign Tribe Army, and fully pledge allegiance to my father?" Nini’an asked.
Lanling remained uninterested in speaking.
"Don’t blame me," Nini’an said.
Then, with a sudden motion, she slashed downward with the dagger, aiming straight for Lanling’s main artery.
This woman was undoubtedly cruel. Lanling had just saved her life, restored her appearance, and she had even surrendered her maidenhood to him just hours earlier.
But merely two hours later, she was ready to kill him.
"Splurt—"
The sharp dagger effortlessly sliced through the artery in Lanling’s neck.
Blood gushed out like a fountain, spraying directly onto Nini’an’s face.
Lanling continued to lie there, motionless.
The force of the blood spray was so intense that it spattered into her nose, eyes, and mouth.
The hot, metallic scent of blood caused Nini’an to shudder violently.
For some unknown reason, a deep tremor shook her body.
She couldn’t describe the feeling—it wasn’t convulsions, nor was it pain, but it was extremely uncomfortable.
A profoundly complex sensation, as if an invisible force had violently pulled at her from within.
"Clang!" The dagger fell to the ground.
It was as though when Lanling took her earlier, he left some kind of poison, some strange energy inside her. That energy grabbed hold of Nini’an’s hand and wrenched the dagger away.
Then, the wound on Lanling’s neck began to heal on its own, and the blood flow stopped.
Nini’an looked down at her hands, now drenched in blood, then turned her gaze to the fallen dagger.
She had no idea why her heart had been overwhelmed by a force that pulled the dagger from her hand just moments ago.
What did this mean? Could this be the will of the Demon God?
The Demon God—the shared and supreme belief of the Barbaric Wilderness.
The Human Kingdom worshiped the Dragon God, while the Barbaric Wilderness worshiped the Demon God.
These two gods were the sources of power for their respective worlds.
In the Barbaric Wilderness, even the most ignorant and ruthless individuals dared not defy the will of the Demon God.
She wanted to pick up the dagger again to sever Lanling’s head because her creed was that everything must yield to principles and interests.
Her father Constantine had laid down the principle: Lanling must sever ties with the Foreign Tribe Army, must sever ties with Suo Mo, or else die—there was no other path.
But now it seemed possible that the Demon God himself had pulled away her dagger, preventing her from killing Lanling?
Nini’an might abandon everything for the sake of her principles and interests, but she could not ignore the will of the Demon God.
She truly could not bring herself to pick up the dagger and kill Lanling a third time.
The first time, when she was about to chop off Lanling’s head, a Rot Fiend Giant Serpent interfered, and Lanling nearly gave his life to save her.
The second time, she had already sliced open Lanling’s neck, yet it seemed some invisible force had violently pulled the dagger from her hand.
Could all of this really just be coincidence? Or was it truly the will of the Demon God?
Was she meant to attempt killing Lanling for a third time?
The saying went that things should not be done thrice. If the first two times were indeed the Demon God’s will, then a third attempt would incur the Demon God’s wrath, summoning incomparably severe punishment.
The punishment of the Demon God was the most terrifying thing in the world, far worse than being disfigured.
But if she did not kill Lanling, it would go completely against her creed: Nini’an never compromised, only forcing others to compromise.
"What do you want?" Nini’an shouted furiously. "Lanling, what do you want?"
Lanling sneered coldly but ignored her.
Nini’an said, "You’ve already slept with me, so break off ties with Suo Mo, sever ties with the Foreign Tribe Army, and serve only me!"
Lanling replied with deliberate enunciation, "I will not betray my uncle, nor will I betray the Foreign Tribe Army."
Nini’an said, "The Foreign Tribe Army is no longer your concern. My father has already given the order for Du Yan to take charge of the Foreign Tribe Army."
Lanling said, "As long as I live, that won’t happen. Unless I’m dead, then none of it matters anymore."
Nini’an scoffed, "You think you can stop Du Yan? Don’t be ridiculous. What kind of martial arts do you have? What kind of martial arts does Du Yan possess?"
"I haven’t broken through to Demon Warrior," Lanling replied.
Nini’an said, "Du Yan is already a four-star Demon Warrior, leagues ahead of your abilities. How do you plan to stop him?"
Lanling said, "So what? As long as I live, someday I’ll surpass him."
