Chapter 179: 018: Guidance from the Founder

Lynch frowned.

He beckoned with his right hand, retrieving a Magic Wand from the Space Ring to prepare for battle.

However, just then, out of the corner of his eye, he suddenly noticed Frey over there, staring at him intently, without blinking.

’Is she trying to gather intel on me?’

Normally, considering Lynch’s Spell reserves, exposing a couple wouldn’t be a big deal for him, but seeing how desperately she wanted to know, Lynch decided not to reveal anything. Let her figure it out on her own.

So Lynch simply gripped the Great Sword and quickly retreated, leaving the battlefield to Grant.

However, no sooner had he moved back than Frey pointed at him and shouted, "Brothers! Take him down for me! Whoever cuts off his head, tonight I’ll be your plaything in bed!"

Oh, so that’s how you want to play?

Lynch decided to stitch Frey’s mouth shut later, and maybe even do some modifications—like sewing her together with this group of bandits.

As his thoughts ran wild, Lynch stopped retreating, raised the Great Sword, and charged into the midst of the bandits.

"Clang! Clang! Clang!"

The harsh sound of metal colliding rang out continuously, as the wide swings of his Great Sword smashed into the weapons of the bandits, sending sparks flying everywhere.

Despite appearing to be a ragtag bunch, the bandits’ strength exceeded Lynch’s expectations. Though they lacked coordinated formations, each member possessed notable strength, ranging from Apprentice Knights, Knights, to Mid-level Knights.

The strongest among them was the Knight leader clad in Full Body Armor, who turned out to be a rare High-level Knight!

In terms of both numbers and strength, Lynch was at a disadvantage. The battle had barely started, and he was already on the losing side.

Relying on swordsmanship alone to win was no longer realistic. Lynch was ready to unleash Spells.

But at that moment, a voice spoke up:

"That’s not how you use a sword."

Grant, who had been sitting idly nearby, suddenly addressed him, "Raise the Great Sword ten centimeters higher and strike with all your might. Stop worrying about how to defend against the enemy’s attacks—think about how to eliminate them."

"Don’t worry about getting injured or dying. Be fearless. Face death head-on. Direct Death Without Advance means to confront death and charge forward without hesitation."

Lynch was momentarily stunned.

Direct Death Without Advance was a swordsmanship technique he was already familiar with. But during practice, he always felt he was missing something, unable to grasp the essence of it.

These insights would typically take countless rounds of training to understand, breaking through a bottleneck before he could truly master the technique.

However, Grant’s casual explanation at this moment felt like it had unlocked a mental barrier for Lynch, instantly bringing him clarity.

He immediately adjusted his sword path, abandoning all defenses, lifting the Cross Sword high, and with an unwavering Faith, charged forward.

In an instant, his momentum surged.

The wide overhead swings, infused with silver Fighting Spirit, plunged into the crowd. By forsaking all defense, the Cross Sword’s speed and strength escalated to an entirely different Level, reversing a battle that had been completely against him.

"Psh! Psh!"

The sound of sharp blades slicing into flesh rang out repeatedly, as one bandit after another fell to Lynch’s sword on the spot.

At the same time, system notifications kept popping up.

[Direct Death Without Advance Skill Level +36]

[Direct Death Without Advance Skill Level +28]

[Direct Death Without Advance Skill Level +...]

Skill progress that used to tick up by mere 1 or 2 points suddenly surged like a floodgate had opened, skyrocketing point by point.

The Knight leader was struck through the chest by a Dissolving Beam from Grant shortly afterward. The remaining bandits, mostly Mid-level and low-tier Knights, wouldn’t have posed a challenge to Lynch even on a normal day, let alone now that he was in a state of enlightenment.

In just a few minutes, Lynch had slaughtered all the bandits.

"Psh!"

Lynch pulled his Great Sword from the chest of the last fallen bandit. The shredded heart, under pressure, sprayed blood and tissue fragments in all directions.

He wiped the blood off his face and glanced at the system panel.

[Direct Death lv2: 1638/30000]

He clicked his tongue...

In just a few short minutes, his skill progress had shot up by several hundred points—equivalent to months of hard practice.

This was the strength of a top-tier Great Knight!

Lynch said, "Thanks."

Grant replied, "Consider it an advance payment."

After pausing briefly, his gaze shifted coldly toward Frey.

Under that icy stare, Frey couldn’t help but shiver. Almost reflexively, she turned around and started to run.

But before she got far, a Hexagram Magic Array appeared at her feet. Black chains clattered out of the array, swiftly binding Frey.

Then, space warped around her, as iron spikes materialized and shot toward Frey one after another.

The spikes pierced her wrists, ankles, arms, and thighs, pinning her to the ground.

Immediately after, black lightning erupted from the nails embedded in her body, striking her repeatedly and forcing anguished screams from her.

Grant’s voice was chilling. He said, "Did you really think I wouldn’t dare kill you?"

Blood sprayed from Frey’s mouth, staining her white teeth. She was clearly in agony and terrified.

But even so, she defiantly spat out, "Well... then do it!"

Grant’s eyes flickered dangerously, teetering on the edge of an outburst.

"Alright, alright!"

Lynch intervened to diffuse the situation. "While I don’t expect our team to work in perfect harmony, our goal in forming this group was simply to fulfill our individual needs. I suggest everyone take a step back."

The Spirit inheritance hadn’t yet been obtained.

Grant mulled it over for a moment and finally heeded Lynch’s suggestion, withdrawing the Contract power.

Frey refrained from further provocations and silently began to heal her injuries.

Lynch summoned Barton to consume the corpses scattered across the battlefield. These were high-quality materials—wasting them would be a pity.

After the battle, the clearing was saturated with blood and scattered body parts, no longer suitable for use as a camp. Lynch proposed they find a new location to rest.

"The map indicates a small town ahead. Let’s head there."

After pausing, he tried to lighten the mood by saying to Grant, "You’re probably quite familiar with these parts, aren’t you?"

Historical records suggested this region was close to Grant’s hometown and the place where his rise began.

Grant replied blandly, "Whatever."

Thus, the three set off toward Green Town.

After walking for about twenty minutes, the outline of Green Town came into view.

But Lynch couldn’t help freezing in his tracks at the sight.

In the direction of Green Town...

A raging fire was burning.
