Wizard: I Can Refine Everything -
Chapter 582 - 44 The Current Situation of Goblins
Chapter 582: Chapter 44 The Current Situation of Goblins
Richard is currently positioned at a gap in the defensive line.
The once Great Wall Defense Line has now collapsed, and the goblins have rebuilt a line of defense using parts of the fortress from the Great Wall Defense Line.
However, the long-lasting assaults by the Abyss Demons have rendered this defensive line full of vulnerabilities.
If Richard hadn’t appeared, this defensive line would have completely collapsed within a few years.
Ascending into the sky, Richard gazes down upon the whole land through the gray mist.
On this land, Richard senses a rich faith. The hardships did not cause the goblins to abandon their faith; instead, like being refined by fire, it made their faith even more resolute.
Standing in the sky, Richard feels the Power of Gods’ Dimension within him suddenly stirring. Under the influence of this Power of Faith, the Power of Gods’ Dimension is transforming into something akin to a World Master’s protection.
At the same time, a message from the Gods’ Dimension enters his mind.
"Racial God..."
Richard raises an eyebrow, inexplicably feeling a bit insulted. How did he, a pure-blooded human, become a Goblin Racial God?
However, on second thought, goblins and Earth Goblins are considered the same race, and the appearance of Earth Goblins isn’t that different from humans. Apart from being paler, Richard doesn’t differ much from the average Earth Goblin.
Average believers almost all thought that Richard was of the Nobles.
"Racial God it is, at least the blessing is decent."
Although the scope of believers for a Racial God is somewhat limited compared to other Divines, the blessing a Racial God receives includes a unique ability called Race Guardian.
This ability allows a Divine to draw upon the power of its race for combat, and the fewer members of the race there are, the higher the proportion that can be leveraged.
In the face of potential extinction, the Racial God could even directly consume all the power of its people, from Life Energy to soul, all becoming the Divine’s own.
"Is it really okay for a wizard like me to have such an ability?" Richard couldn’t help but smile wryly upon receiving the information.
Removing the evil thoughts from his mind, Richard waves his hand, and he and the group of Fire Lizards behind him transform into a stream of light, heading straight for the current goblin center—Miracle City.
...
Miracle City, a Holy Land in the hearts of countless souls. In the ancient past, Miracle City was an industrial city. But as the birthplace of the Miracle Sect, the place where the Sage descended.
After the Sage’s ascension to godhood, this industrial city was promoted as a Holy Land. Under the decisions of the Pope and two Bishops, Bruno City was flattened, and Miracle City was built on its original site.
"That was indeed a beautiful era."
Outside Miracle City, an old pilgrim spoke to the child beside him.
Pilgrimage is an essential part of religion.
Devout believers, with sincere hearts, set out from their hometowns through various means, just to witness the land once walked by the god.
"Why has it become like this now?" the frail child asked.
Outside Miracle City, the massive factories operated day and night without rest. The workers returned to the past, this time even without wages.
To maintain the military supplies for the frontline, and the consumption of the priests, the ration system has been in place for two hundred years.
People are unable to eat their fill, dress warmly, yet they do not starve or freeze to death; such is the life of an ordinary goblin. However, as the battle lines continue to fall back, this life is gradually becoming unbalanced.
"Child, these are the tests given to us by the God," the old pilgrim said devoutly.
The child shook his head, somewhat unable to comprehend the old pilgrim’s words.
Why does the Sage test them? If they can’t pass the test, are they unworthy to be god’s followers?
Suddenly, the child looked toward the sky. A dazzling stream of light penetrated the gloomy mist, descending above Miracle City.
The next moment, all the bells in Miracle City rang. The resplendent Holy Light dispelled the gloom, and a figure in a black robe holding a Magic Wand emerged slowly from the Holy Light.
The old pilgrim, seeing the figure, trembled and knelt on the ground. The filth of sewage covered the earth, but every pilgrim who saw this figure knelt unwaveringly.
In the 543rd year of the Wise Man Calendar, the miracle reappeared.
"We have passed the god’s test, the Sage will save us once more."
...
The massive white cathedral is resplendent beyond compare, with multilayered spires adorned with intricate patterns and sculptures. Each of these sculptures was crafted by a Master artisan. During the early construction of Miracle City, this city gathered all craftspeople from the goblin world.
Even the most simple patterns inside were crafted by a Master of the day.
After over five hundred years of wind and rain, this magnificent building, remodeled from the first church of the Miracle Sect, finally welcomes its destined master.
The dazzling Holy Light gradually fades away. Richard, along with the group of Fire Lizard Warriors, stands before his own Divine Statue, surveying the face of the statue with great interest.
"Hmm, not bad. The sculpture looks more imposing than I do."
Turning around, a Red Cardinal, along with many priests behind him, looks at Richard, the Divine who had disappeared for more than five hundred years, in shock.
"Call Tai’er and Frank to come meet me."
Richard’s voice is gentle yet carries an undeniable authority. The Red Cardinal, seeing this figure akin to a Divine, knelt on the ground without hesitation. Following him, the rest of the priests also knelt one by one.
"My Lord, we have finally passed your test."
"Test?"
Richard was somewhat puzzled by the Red Cardinal’s words, but he did not deny anything, simply continued, "Bring Tai’er and Frank to meet me."
"Yes, my Lord."
Soon, Frank and Ansen arrived at the cathedral.
In the empty cathedral, Richard stood before the Divine Statue, just as he did five hundred years ago. Beside him, a young Fire Lizard Warrior, gripping a long-bladed knife, stood somewhat nervously.
"My lord, no, my master, you have returned."
Frank was overwhelmed with emotion, struggling to speak coherently. Ansen was much calmer, but upon seeing Richard, his face filled with shock and immense joy.
Richard nodded slightly, "Yes, I have returned. Where’s Tai’er?"
The two bent slightly, knowing as part of the first batch of the Miracle Sect believers that Richard disliked bowing.
"...My master, Tai’er’s situation is somewhat complex." Frank hesitated for a moment, seemingly wanting to say more. As Tai’er’s student, Ansen straightforwardly replied, "Teacher secretly researched the Abyss and was corrupted by it. He is currently detained in the dungeon beneath the chapel."
Richard shook his head, "Researching the Abyss... He truly dares. Take me to him and explain the current situation along the way."
Frank’s expression shifted, somewhat excitedly asking, "My master, are we to counterattack?"
"Why else?" Richard gave him a curious glance, "If we don’t clear the Abyss, this world will be engulfed by it."
"Master, you are wise."
"Stop wasting time; quickly tell me about developments over the years."
He then turned back towards Sola, puzzled, "Little one, do you need anything?"
"No, no!"
"Then why are you standing there foolishly? Follow along."
"Yes!"
The situation in the goblin world was not optimistic. From Frank’s account, there was already a significant shortage of goblin food, with Abyssal pollution causing large tracts of land to only grow poisonous Abyss Plants. Their mineral resources were also significantly depleted due to lost lands.
Production of many superior weapons had to be stopped or limited due to shortages of materials.
Due to lacking research in aviation, goblins had lost control over the skies to the demons for years. These demons frequently penetrated the goblins’ anti-air zones to spread Abyssal pollution internally.
Listening to this, Richard could almost conclude that if he had arrived a decade later, he might have to prepare to flee.
Walking through the twisted corridor outside the chapel, Richard and his group reached a black door sealed and guarded by Fire Lizard Warriors.
Upon seeing Richard, the two warriors dropped to one knee.
"My master."
"Yes, open the door for me."
"Yes."
The sealed door was slowly lifted by the two warriors, revealing an underground passage illuminated by torches.
"Still using torches? Are you putting on a play?" Richard chuckled.
Frank’s expression became sheepish, replying somewhat awkwardly, "I feel it’s safer this way. We don’t understand the Abyss well, and while torch cages are crude, they at least won’t fail."
Richard nodded slightly in response, "Not bad, this cautious attitude is commendable."
Through the long spiral staircase, Richard made his way to the underground chapel.
At the end of the staircase was a corridor, with Fire Lizard Warriors guarding inside as well. At the corridor’s end, a deformed monstrosity, part flesh and machine, lay bound by chains blessed by Divine Arts.
Ansen looked at the monstrosity, sadly saying, "My lord, that is my teacher. I don’t know what he’s discovered, but since being infected by the Abyss, no matter how we use Divine Arts to expel it, the Abyss within him isn’t cleansed.
To prevent him from being completely eroded, we could only bless his prosthetics, resulting in his current form."
The Abyssal power was rooted in Tai’er’s flesh, although suppressed by Divine Arts, the collision of the two forces dramatically altered him.
Excess flesh continued to grow from his heart,
"Not cleansed?"
Richard frowned slightly; ordinary beings, unless too deeply infected, could still escape erosion through short-term survival strategies. Only at the World Master’s level does erosion instantly pollute the essence, making it impossible to remove.
He walked to Tai’er’s side and placed a finger on Tai’er’s brow.
In the next moment, powerful spiritual power flowed through the finger into Tai’er’s brain.
"Tai’er, release your guard, or you will lose more."
"Who are you?"
"I am the Sage."
"Sage Lord? Sage Lord!"
Tai’er’s mind was already somewhat frenzied, and years of pain left his spirit overwhelmed. Fortunately, the name Sage was significant enough to wake his last shred of sanity.
"Yes, my lord."
In the next moment, Richard’s spiritual power freely explored Tai’er’s memories. Among the memories, Richard indeed found a segment concerning the Abyss Rune.
"I knew it was this."
Richard erased the memory and then released a purification Divine Art.
Under the power of the Divine Art, the grotesque flesh spawned from Abyssal pollution wilted, and under the gentle Holy Light, Tai’er returned to the form of the mechanical Priest he once was.
"Do not research the Abyss Rune further, unless you want to end up like this again."
Richard did not blame Tai’er, for researching the unknown is an inevitable aspect of study.
"Yes, my master." Tai’er’s voice was weak but devout.
"Frank," Richard turned and said, "get the factories running again, prepare more rails, trains, and fire purifiers. In the upcoming war, your main task is to reclaim lost lands and purify the Abyss.
This world has been sufficiently eroded by the Abyss; it cannot continue."
