Witty Wife, Better Life
Chapter 378 - 368 Viewing the House

Chapter 378: Chapter 368 Viewing the House

A group of people left Old Lady Zhao’s house and it was already noon; Shen Yunfang suggested taking Ma Liguo out for lunch.

Ma Liguo could tell that Shen Yunfang was wealthy and didn’t stand on ceremony with her.

After they finished lunch, the two adults each carried a child and continued to look at houses.

Walking through this area of single-story houses, they saw a district of multi-story buildings.

At a glance, they were all Tube Buildings, the kind with shared kitchens and toilets.

Ma Liguo led Shen Yunfang inside, and past the Tube Buildings, they saw several normal residential buildings, the kind Shen Yunfang often saw in later generations.

"See, the environment here is not bad, right? To be honest with you, not just anyone can live in these buildings," Ma Liguo pointed at one of the buildings and said, "I live there; you can come back with me in the evening, and my sister-in-law will make you a tasty meal."

Shen Yunfang raised an eyebrow; she hadn’t expected that she might become neighbors with Li Hongjun’s comrade-in-arms. Had Li Hongjun arranged this on purpose? When he wasn’t around, he left someone to keep an eye out, right?

"How could I impose? That would be too much trouble for your sister-in-law."

"Hey, what trouble? Hongjun and I are comrades-in-arms, friends for life," Ma Liguo said, heading towards the building on the far left, "Let’s go check out the houses first."

The owner of the suite wasn’t residing there, so Ma Liguo had gotten the neighbor across the hall to open the door for Shen Yunfang to take a look inside.

Once Shen Yunfang entered, her eyes brightened. She had thought it would be the oldest type of three-generation household, but to her surprise, she found a small living room, roughly fourteen or fifteen square meters, which the owner had furnished as a lounge for receiving guests.

All three bedrooms were about the same size. She considered one for her and her husband, one for the children, and one as a study.

She also did a full walk-through of the toilet and kitchen. The north and south balconies were exceptionally large, capable of storing lots of miscellaneous items, and there was a storage room in the kitchen. Shen Yunfang envisioned that it could be combined with the toilet by knocking through a simple renovation, allowing for a shower to be added easily.

After looking around and being mostly satisfied, her only concern was the empty house – they would need to buy their own furniture before moving in.

"Auntie Sun, didn’t the house used to have furniture?" Ma Liguo asked with a frown, recalling that the last time he was there, he saw beds. Why were they gone now?

Auntie Sun’s gaze flickered as she said, "Gone, a few days ago someone came to see the house, complained about the old furniture, so I called Old Yang, and Old Yang told me to have someone sell all that furniture. After I had the furniture sold, the person who came to see the house decided not to buy it after all. It’s such a mess, and the sold furniture can’t be brought back."

"Heh, is that so? Well, in that case, this house isn’t worth as much anymore. Alright, I’ll discuss the price with Old Yang myself," Ma Liguo said with a forced smile.

How could he not know Auntie Sun’s little scheme? He figured she must have fattened her wallet a bit from the sale of the furniture.

"That would be great, I’m just the caretaker, I don’t handle anything else." Auntie Sun was all too happy to be uninvolved in the matter; after all, she got no financial benefit whether the house was sold or not.

After viewing the house, the group headed towards Ma Liguo’s home, and on the way, he inquired about Shen Yunfang’s opinion on the property.

Shen Yunfang gave a single word in response, "Buy."

Ma Liguo’s wife was a petite yet fiery-tempered traffic policewoman named Mu Huazhen.

Well, the pairing of a neighborhood committee director and a police officer must be considered a perfect match.

Both of them thought so too, one without the demeanor of a retired soldier, the other not looking like a typically striking policewoman, but their only son, Ma Chaofan, was a rather shy child.

After dinner, declining Mu Huazhen’s invitation to stay longer, Shen Yunfang took the two kids by herself on the bus back to the guesthouse.

At Ma Liguo’s home in the evening, as the couple lay in bed, Mu Huazhen was still marveling.

"Hey, your comrade’s wife doesn’t seem like someone from the countryside at all. Just look at her delicate ways, even more like a city-dweller than I am," Mu Huazhen said as she looked at her own hand. She had specifically held Shen Yunfang’s delicate hand during dinner. It truly felt as though it were made from martial arts novels, as soft as boneless and with skin like creamy jade.

With those slender jade hands extended, her own radish hands couldn’t compare.

"Yeah, she really doesn’t," Ma Liguo agreed, but his conclusion wasn’t based on hands. Rather, his interactions throughout the day made him feel that he seemed more like a person from the countryside. What was going on?

"Plus, that delicate little girl could get into university and still look after two kids while studying. She’s quite capable," Mu Huazhen pondered, putting herself in Shen Yunfang’s shoes and realizing that she couldn’t do the same.

"That’s true. But that’s nothing, let me tell you, Li Hongjun tipped me off when he called me. This younger sister-in-law sketched a drawing book for the children, and a foreigner saw it and insisted on buying it. They couldn’t refuse, and in the end, they had no choice but to sell it, making quite a sum," he added, the latter part being a complete fabrication on his part.

"Oh? How much did they sell it for?" Mu Huazhen was astonished too.

"Um, how could they possibly talk about that on the phone, in case someone overheard?" Ma Liguo covered up, not wanting to undermine his masculine pride, "But today, I accompanied my sister-in-law to look at a couple of apartments, and as soon as she saw them, she said she would buy. You know, those two apartments together cost at least four thousand yuan."

"Really? They must be wealthy then. It just goes to show, ’you can’t judge a book by its cover,’" Mu Huazhen agreed, nodding.

"Exactly. You haven’t met my comrade in arms; he’s quite something. Now I think about it, both of them can’t go wrong," Ma Liguo said, yawning.

"Humph, for once you’ve brought over someone decent, which is more than I can say for those fox and dog friends of yours. Let me tell you, don’t bring that messy crowd to our house. If they were to lead our Transcendent astray, what then? Besides, as a police officer being seen so close to people under special attention, wouldn’t that be asking for trouble? Do you want me to be able to work or not... Hey, I’m talking to you."

"Huh... huh..."

The next day, Ma Liguo came to pick up Shen Yunfang. First he got the two kids ready and took them to a daycare near his home where he handed them over to Mu Huazhen’s sister.

The previous day, during the meal at Ma Liguo’s home, Mu Huazhen had noticed Shen Yunfang with her two children and had asked how she would manage once she started school.

Shen Yunfang said that she hoped to find someone to help look after the children after getting settled or to find a decent daycare to send them to.

Mu Huazhen immediately slapped her thigh and said she knew just the place. She wasn’t referring to the daycare’s facilities being outstanding, but that they knew someone there. Mu Huazhen’s sister was the director of the daycare, and it was conveniently located just a seven or eight-minute walk to the northeast of the neighborhood.

Shen Yunfang was delighted when she heard this and asked Mu Huazhen to see if her children could be accepted there.

Of course they could. When everyone involved was an acquaintance, how could they not help with this? Moreover, there was no need to wait until Shen Yunfang had settled in; they could start sending the children tomorrow. This way, Shen Yunfang would have fewer burdens and find everything more convenient. Thus, this morning’s drama unfolded.
