With My System, I Can Even Tame Gods -
Chapter 1113 - 1113: Visiting in the night
It seemed like there was more happening under the surface of the Kalos Empire.
It was just that Lin Fan wouldn't be able to gain more information in this place.
Even if there were people from the six factions gathered in the underground market still because of him, it wasn't as if they would know much. The ones that were currently here were those with low status that had been sent on the errand of creating the listing with the information brokers.
It wasn't as if these people would actually know anything.
"It seems like I'll have to collect my money as soon as possible." Lin Fan thought to himself before disappearing without a trace.
He had to go and see when it would be possible to visit the Fox Hall sooner.
…
"What is this mist?" Atticus asked when the mist suddenly appeared in his room.
He had been about to go to sleep when this mist suddenly appeared.
But after coming to his senses, Atticus couldn't help deeply knitting his brows.
After all, there was a rumour that was spreading through the underground market at this time. Since it was spreading through the underground market, it was only natural that he would have heard about it as well.
However, this rumour had more of a meaning to Atticus because he could tell that it was related to him.
Or rather, it was related to the auction that had been held in the Fox Hall.
So when he saw this mist, it wasn't hard for him to guess what was the cause of it.
At the same time, there was a part of him that was a bit afraid.
"Sir customer, is that you?" Atticus asked in a hesitant voice.
He wasn't certain if the person who he thought was there was there, but he took this guess since there was nothing else that he was able to do. He was trapped inside of this room that was slowly filling up with mist.
Right as soon as his voice fell, Atticus couldn't help giving a gulp.
That was because he could feel that there was something pressing up against his throat. It felt like it could pierce his throat at any moment with how sharp it was.
He didn't dare look down, but he knew that he was in danger.
"I don't know what I've done to you, but I'm not your enemy. There's no reason for you to treat me like this."
"I know that you haven't done anything to me yet, but that doesn't mean that you can't do anything to me. As such, I have to take some precautions, don't you think?" This voice seemed to come out of nowhere and everywhere at the same time.
It was as if this voice was all around him, so Atticus couldn't pinpoint where the person who was causing all of this was.
But this was a voice that he was familiar with.
It was the voice of the person that had come into the store to sell the items at the auction. It seemed that even though this person was hiding their appearance in the mist, they weren't hiding their voice.
Atticus knew why he was doing this, but there was a part of him that wanted to get a bit more information from this person.
After all, this person was the person that was the famous Mist Lord.
This person was someone that all six factions of the Kalos Empire wanted information on, which meant that if he was the person that was able to get information on this Mist Lord…
Well there was no doubt that it would help with his situation with his family.
That was why he had been waiting for this Mist Lord to show up this entire time to claim his money.
But Atticus also wasn't a fool.
He knew exactly why the Mist Lord chose to appear at a time like this and in the manner that he chose to appear in. It was clear that the Mist Lord wanted to hide his true identity from everyone.
There was a part of Atticus that couldn't help wondering why the Mist Lord would even do something like this.
Especially since he could see the kind of power that the Mist Lord wielded.
When he heard the rumours, he couldn't help feeling a bit doubtful of the power level that they had put him at. But now that he was on the other end of the blade, it was only natural that he would agree with them.
If he had this kind of power, why would he hide himself like this?
Someone like this would surely be able to do whatever they wanted.
Still, that wasn't important.
What was important was…
Only before he could actually do anything, there was a knock that came from the door before a voice asked, "Sir Atticus, is there a problem?"
Atticus wanted to say something, but he felt the blades at his neck move closer to his throat when he was about to speak.
When he felt this, Atticus couldn't help knitting his brows as he didn't understand why the Mist Lord didn't want him to say anything. After all, one would think that someone like the Mist Lord would want to send these people away so they didn't interfere with what he was doing.
Seeing that there was no answer, there were sounds that came from the other side of the door.
It seemed like there was something happening on the other side.
Based on the sound, it seemed like there were a bunch of people that were gathering on the other side of the door.
Atticus couldn't help deeply knitting his brows since he knew that this would make things complicated, so he took the risk to say, "If I don't say anything, they'll barge in here with guards. When that happens, I don't think it'll be good for either side."
But there was only silence that came in response.
So Atticus bit his lip before he prepared to call the guards outside to stop.
Only he found that before he could do this, the blades that were at his neck pressed hard again to stop him.
This Mist Lord…Just what is your goal?
That was the only thing that Atticus could think when he felt this.
Not long after, the door was kicked open and the guards charged forward. However, the only thing that happened was that they walked into the thick mist that was inside of the room.
"What is going on here?"
"Where did this mist come from?"
"I can't see anything!"
That was the response from the guards when they entered the room, but that didn't mean that they let their guards down. The moment that they entered this room filled with mist, they knew that they were in a dangerous situation and raised their guards even more.
But even when they did this, they couldn't stop what happened next.
"Ah!"
Screams of pain came from all over the room before the sounds of people falling down rang out.
"Stop it!" Atticus shouted the moment that he heard this, but the screams of pain continued for a while before it suddenly fell silent.
There was a part of the mist that cleared.
This part of the mist was in the center of the room and when it cleared, it revealed Atticus and the guards that had fallen to the ground. There was blood coming from these guards that stained the floor and they weren't moving at all.
It really seemed like they were dead, but if one looked closely, they could see that these guards were still breathing.
That meant that they weren't dead, but it also meant that their condition wasn't good.
"What do you mean by this? Are you trying to make us your enemy?" Atticus had to speak up for his guards at this point.
But the only words that responded were, "It's a punishment for what you were planning to do. Now bring me the money that I'm owed."
There was an ugly look that appeared on Atticus' face when he heard this, but there was nothing that he could do about this. After all, he was currently being held hostage and there was nothing that his guards could do against this enemy.
So the only thing that he could do was shout at the butler outside, "Get the money from the auction."
It didn't take long for the butler to come back with a few people that carried the gold in.
During this time, Atticus had thought things through and figured out what the Mist Lord's goal was.
He had stopped Atticus from stopping the guards because he wanted to use these guards as an example. He wanted to use these guards to show Atticus what his actions would lead to.
It seemed that this person was far more sly and merciless than he thought…
Once the gold was brought into the room, the mist appeared once more.
"I've received it."
Only after this was said did the mist clear from the room again.
This time, it didn't seem like there was anything else that was going to happen as the mist completely disappeared from the room. But even then, there wasn't a single person that dared to move.
It was only after a long silence that Atticus brought his hand to his neck and he felt that it was a bit wet.
It wasn't just his sweat, but there was something else that was there.
"Do we go after him?" The butler slowly asked this.
"Can you even find him? Let alone stop him?" Atticus said in a cold voice.
The butler revealed an awkward look when he heard this.
In the end, Atticus just said with a sigh, "Just go and send information to the six factions about this. I'll send them a report as well on this. Hopefully that should be enough for them."
Though he said this, he could feel a headache coming on.
He knew that it wouldn't be enough and that he would be blamed for this…
