Wife of The Demon Prince -
Chapter 280: Walk!
Chapter 280: Walk!
A dense energy of tension hung over Findara. meanwhile, far away in Landow, all the soldiers were on alert. Landow was a small kingdom and was not well-known around the lands, but as time went by, it regarded itself as a completely independent kingdom, and Cornell had supported the kingdom all through the years taking it to where it was today. Hence, even the king of the kingdom had no say in Cornell’s underground businesses in Landow.
Cornell had built a huge name for himself in Landow, earning the trust of everyone. But no one dared to cross him despite his underground businesses as he could bring the kingdom down to it’s former state or even complete ruin with his connections. He owned two large underground dungeons, and also, all his slayers resided in the kingdom.
In one of his underground dungeons, countless number of soldiers marched steadily on patrol. Inside the dungeon, a man emerged from the dark entrance, making his way through the long passageways of the cell rooms. The guards patrolling we’re suddenly alerted on seeing the man,
"Hey! Stop right there, identify yourself!" The soldiers were ready to kill any unidentified person who trespassed into the restricted underground dungeon. They pulled out their swords and pointed it at the man, who quickly raised his arms in surrender.
"I am the humble servant who is in charge of bringing the meals to the prisoners in the cells!" The man uttered hurriedly before they’d separate his head from his neck.
"Come in to the light!" One of the soldiers ordered sternly, as the man was standing in the dark passageway. He nodded obediently and slowly stepped forward. The bright torches on the wall shone on his face, revealing his freckled face, and the first soldier who shouted at him spoke again,
"This is not the time when meals are given to the prisoners, so why are you wandering around in the passageways?"
"I apologize, I am not supposed to be here at this time, but my partner who’s in charge of retrieving the bowls after the meals complained of stomach ache, and he’s been suffering from diarrhea. Thus, I had to be the one to retrieve the bowls in his place, that was why I was here in the passageways." The man pointed to a pile of bowls next to the dungeon entrance.
But the soldiers stared at him disapprovingly, then finally lowered their swords, "We will let you off this once, but if we catch you around here at this time of the night again..."
"I am sorry, I won’t do it again." He bowed to the waist, and the soldiers returned to their patrolling. Only then did the servant lift his head and watched their retreating backs until they disappeared around the corners. He then returned to the entrance where the dishes had been gathered.
"That was a close one..." He murmured to himself. However, the servant was none other than Merek who had disguised himself as a completely different person.
’I have checked every single prisoners here, but her majesty is certainly not held in here.’
Merek had infiltrated the underground dungeon under Hamon’s orders, in order to be sure if she was held here before they’d attack, so they wouldn’t waste their time breaking into the wrong place. Since she was not here, the slayers headquarters was the most possible place she might be in.
Merek quickly recovered the dishes and returned them to the kitchen with an expressionless face. In fact, it was he who caused the servant who’d distribute food to the prisoners to suddenly have diarrhea.
Immediately after Merek left the underground dungeon, he went straight to an abandoned building, and quickly wrote down a brief report of what he learned, and tied the note to a pigeon’s leg, then sent it through the window.
--
The carrier pigeon arrived at Hamon’s location, where he was camping with the rest of his soldiers. After reading the note, he realized that Ara was likely being held at the slayers headquarters.
Hamon turned towards his men, "Ready the horses, we will leave immediately!"
"Yes, your majesty!" The men’s voices rang together as one. If an outright war broke out, or if Cornell returned from his scaremongering business of ruining Hamon’s name, he would surely harm his wife. Ara’s life may be hanging on a thin thread at the moment, and he was determined to recuse her before that happened.
Strangely, his uneasiness seemed to increase even more today, and his eyes had been twitching repeatedly. He did not have to wonder the reasons to know that his wife was longing for him wherever she was at the moment. And that only made him want to get to her on time, and he could not teleport since he wasn’t familiar with all the locations here, and also had no idea where she was being held.
At present, Findara soldiers and Henry were at the borders completely prepared for the enemies to arrive. Meanwhile, Hamon was in Landow to bring his wife back safely, before he returned to join the war at the battlefield.
’...I hope you are in the slayers headquarters, my wife. Hold on a little bit, I am coming to get you.’
If it turned out that Ara was not held in the slayers headquarters, it would blow their covers at once, and if his wife wasn’t there, they would waste the precious little time they had. And also, Cornell’s men would move fast in changing her location to an even more secret location.
Hamon swiftly mounted his horse, and gave his orders, "Let’s go!" With a lightning speed, all the horses marched after him. Since the slayers headquarters was not far from where they were camping, it wouldn’t take them long to reach the place.
--
Ara, who lay motionless on the cold dungeon ground, was shivering uncontrollable as the cold had seemed to get into her enough to cause a chilly fever. She had not heard from Ellyn nor Cornell ever since that morning when that annoying Ellyn had left with the intentions to report her pregnancy, but then, that did not mean she was not worried sick, and terrified at the same time.
Boom!
Suddenly, she heard a loud sound of explosion from a far, it startled her out of her wits, and quickly lifted her head upwards, she could see the reflection of a huge fire flashing in through the window, for the fire to shine this bright, the flame had to be huge.
Ara hurriedly managed to push her upper body up and sat upright, but when she tried to stand to her feet, she grimaced in pain, "Ahh...!" The pain in her ankle was so intense that she could not stand on it. But suddenly another loud sound rang in the air.
"What is happening?" Ara glanced towards the small window again. She then tried to listen on the surrounding, she could hear people running around in panic with her sharply trained ears. Also, she picked up the voice of someone shouting urgently,
"The slayers headquarters is under attack...get reinforcements!" She couldn’t hear everything, but she caught enough to understand what was happening. Her green eyes shone in astonishment.
"The slayers are under attack? That means I am held in Landow...But this building is not the slayers headquarters, it’s a bit far from it..."
At this moment, another realization struck her. If someone was invading Landow, it was likely because they were here to rescue her!
Ara turned towards the window with longing eyes, "Hamon..." She had hoped that he was desperately searching for her, but now that she saw knew it, her heart could not help but skip a beat, she would finally see her husband again, but...
Ara’s brows knitted together, if Hamon really was here to rescue her, and they were the ones attacking the slayers headquarters...Then it was almost cruel bad luck, they were in the wrong place at the right time. She did not know where Hamon was, but to rescue her, they had to come over to this particular dungeon, but...
"...what should I do now?" She wanted to yell out, but she was too far away for them to hear. There was no way to signal Hamon that she was here not there, and with such a large fire, a large numbers of Cornell’s men would flock to the slayers headquarters...If that happened, Hamon and his men would be forced to retreat, and she would be left in the mercy of that cruel monster, Cornell!
Ara touched her stomach again. Each moment, she lived in fear of Cornell suddenly arriving, and also harming her child. "Baby, your father is here, but...we might miss him if I don’t do something..."
Ara closed her eyes, and forcefully bore with a burning pain that shot to her ankle as she stood to her feet. However, the pain was so unbearable to the extent her eyes moistened with tears. She inhaled deeply as she finally stood up, but rested all her weight on her left leg instead. She then slowly lifted her dress to reveal her swollen wounded ankle, the skin around the wound had turned purplish red, and also the swelling had spread to her feet, making it look even bigger.
She had gotten injured on the cliff when fighting the men, she hadn’t realized it until when she fell off the chair when Cornell had slapped her, making the pain worst.
But now, with such swollen feet and painful ankle, how was she going to even fight her way out of here to meet Hamon in the other building? She wouldn’t even get anywhere before she’d get caught with her current condition.
Suddenly, she heard some approaching footsteps outside the iron door marching towards her cell room. Before she could react, the rusty iron door was flung open with a loud bang, and countless men stepped inside.
"Tie her up and drag her out, let’s hurry out of here!" The man in the front commanded, and two men stepped forward from behind with ropes in their hands. She hissed in pain as they roughly pulled her forward, making her dress brush against her ankle.
Ara felt the urge to fight the men off, but they were more than twenty men at present, some were even waiting outside. Who was she kidding, she would only cause her own death if she laid a hand on any of them.
The men bonded her wrist tightly with the rope, and roughly pushed her forward again, "Walk!"
Ara held in the pain and moved forward, every step hurt like hell. "Where are you taking me?" Her eyes swept over the countless men that were escorting her to who knows where. But none of them answered her, and when she was slowing down because of the pain, one of the men roughly began to drag her rope like a slave,
"Move Before I whip you!" He barked irritatingly.
