Wife of The Demon Prince -
Chapter 223: Leaving
Chapter 223: Leaving
Anne walked inside the palace gate, where she saw her sister pacing back and forth as if waiting for her. Anne halted her steps and tried to look as normal as possible, but even the guards looked curiously at the trace of tears on her cheeks.
Although, Merek hadn’t informed anyone about her kidnapping, and she was thankful for that. At least she wouldn’t be the reason to make her family worry. She forced herself to hold back the tears as she recalled all the events that had happened this same night. Her kidnapping, those men who had almost raped her, then...Merek.
"Sister..." She called out to Ara who had been worriedly pacing up and down waiting for her. And hearing her sister called, she immediately turned towards the direction, without waiting another moment, Ara ran towards her not caring how the guards were giving her strange looks.
"Anne...!"
At that moment Anne saw her sister running towards her, her tears began to fall uncontrollably again. The tears she had been holding back, burst out like a dam and she hurriedly hugged Ara.
"Sister..." She cried.
"Anne, what’s wrong? Why are you crying? Did Merek say something to you?"
At the mention of Merek, more tears streamed constantly down her flushed face, and she tightened the hold on her sister. "I am sorry, sister..."
"It’s alright Anne, don’t cry." Ara patted her back, but Anne completely broke down. No matter how hard Ara tried to console her, it didn’t seem to be working, because it was like adding fuel to a burning flame.
However, Ara managed to take her to the guest room. And immediately they reached the room, Anne fell on the bed and curled herself up in a ball, while Ara quietly sat next to her on the edge of the bed. She could tell her sister’s grief was linked to Merek, she didn’t know what had happened between them while Merek had gone after Anne, but she knew he must have done or said something for Anne to come back in tears. It was evident that their conclusion was not a good one.
Furthermore, it had taken Anne so long to return to the palace.
’How can I help her?’
There was nothing she could do in the middle. She couldn’t get involved in their relationship, but as she watched Anne curled up in a ball on the bed and crying, she couldn’t help but want to interfere.
Eventually, Anne cried herself to sleep. And the next morning, Ara came to the guest room earlier to check up on her. Anne was still sleeping soundly so Ara left in fear of disturbing her, a few hours later Ara returned to the guest room again and thankfully, she found her awake this time, sitting on the bed with a blank expression while holding a Jacket in hand, which Ara suspected to be Merek’s.
"Anne, You are awake?"
Anne jolted at the voice of her sister, and hurriedly kept the jacket which Merek had given her last night aside,"Yes..."
Ara didn’t ask her about what happened last night, because she didn’t want Anne to cry again. Anne’s eyes still looked swollen from all the crying last night.
"Anne, You should take a bath while I go and inform the servants what to make for lunch." She said, it was past noon already and Anne had overslept, "What would you like to eat?"
"I’ll...eat anything." She murmured softly.
"Ah, alright. What about your favorite chicken soup, do you want that?"
Anne stiffened. That was her favorite soup. And she’d always cooked it for Merek when he was still working in the Boxton mansion, and he had even said he liked how she made it. She felt inwardly bitter at the sudden memory of how he ate her cooking, but she kept her face calm and shook her head,
"No, I’ll eat anything but that."
"...Alright. I’ll send the maids to prepare your bath now." With that, Ara left the room and soon Anne took her bath and went down to join her sister for lunch. However, Hamon wasn’t around as he’d said he had some urgent matters to attend to outside the palace earlier this morning. Ara couldn’t help but wonder what her husband was up to these days that made him go out of the palace often. She soon dismissed the thought and focused on Anne who was poking her food with her spoon instead of eating.
"Anne, why aren’t you eating?"
"Huh? I will eat." She began to eat to avoid making her sister worry about her, but she could still feel Ara’s gaze on her.
"Anne, if you want you can stay here for a few days. I’ll inform father about it."
Anne had noticed her sister had been trying to cheer her up since she woke up, and her heart, which had seemed hopelessly overwhelmed in her longing for Merek, seemed to ease a little.
She forced a smile, "No need, I will return home later."
Ara didn’t insist on her staying, and after they finished having lunch, she took Anne to her favorite garden in the palace, where they both sat on the white swing. For the first time, Anne didn’t say anything and just quietly sat next to Ara with a distant look on her face, which worried Ara to see her crazy sister being this uncharacteristically silent.
The breeze blew towards their direction, making Anne’s brown hair fly to Ara’s face. Only then did Anne step out of her dazed state and murmured a, "Sorry."
Nevertheless, before Ara could say anything, Anne spoke again, "Sister..."
"Hmm?"
"Father had once suggested I move to aunt Muriel’s place in Zari...I’ve thought about it, I want to go."
"Really?" Ara was surprised by Anne’s sudden decision to go and live with their father’s younger sister.
Anne continued seriously, "The Boxton mansion is too lonely without you. Father and Henry rarely stay at home...And since you are already married, it will be inappropriate for me to visit you all the time. Aunt Muriel will be happy to have me live with her and Danielle."
Anne had only refused to go earlier, because of Merek, but now that he was no longer a part of her life, she needed to leave to forget about him and move on. To start a fresh in a new environment, where she had no memories of him.
Ara stared at her sister. She’d also thought about that, to send Anne to their aunt, but she knew how Anne didn’t like to be separated from her right from her childhood. But now, she wanted to leave? Maybe it would be best for her sister then,
"Alright, if that is what you want, then you will leave next month_"
"No, I want to leave as soon as possible."
"Huh? Isn’t it too soon?"
"Yes, sister. I’ve already made up my mind and all that’s left is for me to inform father once I get home so he can prepare for me to leave immediately." Anne said with a faint smile. Even though she’d told Merek she’d no longer bother him anymore, that would be impossible if she stayed in Findara. She might go and look for him again, thus she wanted distance between them. So if there ever came a time she missed him, she wouldn’t be able to get to him.
Ara nodded, "Alright, if that’s what you want."
Anne clasped Ara’s hand in hers and said, "Can I request something from you, sister?"
"Yes, tell me."
"...After I leave, please don’t hate Merek."
"...!" Ara blinked in astonishment. Although she’d began to harbor some dislike towards Merek for hurting her sister, but she hadn’t expected that Anne would act the opposite.
"Why do you want that?" Ara asked slightly bemused.
"...because it is not his fault that he couldn’t return my feelings...And I don’t want you to hate him, because he’s the man I’ll always love." She admitted, her voice filled with emotions.
Ara smiled, "Alright, I won’t hate him."
Anne blushed in embarrassment, "Thank you."
"Don’t mention it, you’re my sister and I’ll do anything to make you happy."
All Anne’s life, her elder sister had done everything to make her happy. And at this moment, she felt like tears would burst forth again, but she hurriedly hugged Ara to hide it, "...After I’m gone, I will write to you everyday."
"Of course you would." Ara happily hugged her back with a faint smile.
