Wife of The Demon Prince
Chapter 208: Gathering evidence

Chapter 208: Gathering evidence

Sensing his sister’s hesitation, he spoke, "It’s fine if you don’t feel comfortable giving me your piece of clothing. I’ll take no offense if you refuse."

"But then where would you get one if I don’t give you?"

"I don’t need the piece of clothing anymore, after all it is not necessary. I just wanted to take yours so I wouldn’t be bothered by the ladies on the day of the tournament."

It wasn’t against the rules of course, Ara wanted to give it to him, but then realized if she gave him, the women in Findara would think her brother was taken already and none would approach him.

"...Brother am sure you’ll get one tomorrow from your secret admirers. Mark my words, you’ll find your soulmate at the tournament." She teased.

Henry scrunched his face,"I have none. Please don’t curse me, I don’t want a soulmate."

Ara couldn’t help but laugh out loud at his expression. Her brother might not realize it, but he was popular among the ladies. In her previous life, women would deliver letters through her to him, but she never gave those love letters to him as she wasn’t comfortable around him then, because of his stone-cold aura.

She couldn’t help but feel pity for all the ladies who’d secretly liked her rigid brother. She wondered what sort of woman would one day marry him. He was the type who would never notice a woman’s feeling unless maybe she’d directly confess to him. She mused.

Ara’s mind wandered to the tournament tomorrow, "Brother, are you aware that Kane is one of the participants this year?"

"Mhm, I am."

"His majesty had given his words to double the reward for whoever wins the tournament. If you win for the Boxton’s, You will be highly rewarded."

Henry’s expression brightened, "Well, that is another reason I should try my best to win tomorrow."

Ara watched her brother’s expression, deep in her heart, she didn’t care if he won or not, all she cared about was his safety. She looked up at his eyes as she spoke softly, "I wish you the best of luck, brother..."

At her words of luck, he suddenly stretched his hand and clasped her hand in his. He then looked up at her with a determined expression, "You are the main reason I want to win this competition...I had made up my mind since the day you told me you wanted to marry the crown Prince, I have decided to make our family more powerful so I could be your strongest ally in supporting the Prince."

Henry was already loyal to his kingdom. Although he had his dislikes towards Hamon before, but the moment his sister had chosen him as her husband, the depth of his feelings changed towards the Prince. He also chose to become the crown Prince’s faithful ally. And if he won this tournament, their family rank would increase in the kingdom. But he had chosen this only because his sister was involved or else he wouldn’t have wanted to be a part of the royal affairs.

Ara’s eyes began to grow moist at her brother’s words. He really cared for her. The memory of how he’d sacrificed himself to save her in her previous life flashed to her mind. She stared at her brother’s strong determined blue eyes, she then smiled and clasped his rough hand tightly,

"Thank you, brother...please be safe tomorrow at the tournament. Come out unharmed."

In the crown Prince’s study room, Hamon was seated behind his desk, on it were piles of parchment papers, he had remained busy in his study the whole day. Due to Ara’s injuries, he hadn’t been doing what was needed to be done as the crown Prince because he’d been taking care of her. But now he was back to it, trying to catch up on all the undone parchment papers.

His long slender fingers held the quill as his crimson eyes skimmed through a parchment in hand. While he also spoke in a low lazy voice to Oliver who stood across from his desk, "Are you sure you’ve got all the evidence ready?"

"Yes, Your Highness. The knights have gathered all the evidence regarding how the queen had sent her men disguised as yours to attack the commoners."

"Good...what about those powders in Cassius’ parties, has there been any feedback from the expert?"

"Yes, it was difficult for the expert to distinguish what it really was, but we finally found someone who examined it and saw what it does to ones body. We also got some noble children from the second Prince’s party who are willing to testify against his wrong doing. So far, everything is in our favor all that’s left is to present our evidence and put him under interrogation."

"Very well, we will bring everything to light after the tournament."

While Merona was working hard to wipe every evidence, Hamon was preparing to snatch her by surprise.

Hamon signed the parchment paper he’d been skimming through and dropped the quill and paper aside then glanced up at Oliver, "And what about Claire, have you secured her dungeon premises?"

"Yes, the security is tight around the dungeon, we’ve been waiting for the queen to make her moves. You needn’t worry about it."

Hamon raised his hand and massaged his temple, he then sighed. He hadn’t mentioned Favian’s death to anyone at the family meal, he wanted to distract the hag’s attention until all his preparations were finished.

"The soldiers need to be out of sight, until it is time. Don’t let anybody get a whiff of them."

"Yes, your highness."

Hamon stood up and put on his coat which he’d hanged behind his chair. He had yet other matters to attend to, "Don’t forget, we shall strike after the tournament, keep that in mind and make sure all the knights are well prepared."

"Alright, I will make sure nothing goes wrong."

After the tournament, Hamon would set off his explosion of everything, he had been gathering his evidence to bring down the queen. He would exploit her greatest weakness and ensure she was trapped in his bait and wouldn’t be able to escape. Armed conflict was inevitable right from the start, and he was fully prepared for the worst that would happen. If everything went as he’d planned, it would only be a matter of time before he takes over the throne.

He never wanted to be king, but if it meant he could protect his wife by taking the throne, so be it, he would be king and rule over Findara this time.

Hamon wore his coat and made to leave the study, but then stopped as if remembering something, he looked back at Oliver, "Remember don’t let my wife get any whiff of this until I say so."

"Your Highness, is it that you don’t want her highness to know because you fear she might ruin your plans?" Oliver curiously asked. But Hamon chuckled softly, "Not at all...My wife is too remarkable to the extent she might want to take it upon herself. She wouldn’t sit back and let me handle this alone, and that’s why she’s my wife." He smiled faintly.

"What?" Oliver looked at Hamon in bemusement, as he did not understand what the Prince meant, but Hamon did not care to explain any further, and nonchalantly resumed to walk towards the door while saying, "Come with me, we have things to take care of."

Oliver hurriedly followed behind him as he shook his head in disbelief.
