Wife of The Demon Prince -
Chapter 191: Deceiving
Chapter 191: Deceiving
Ellyn, who had taken a new disguise had somehow started working in the palace as a maid. Her new disguise wasn’t something pleasant to the eyes in any aspect. Her skin looked tanned because she’d applied something on it, and her hair was cut short to her neck length. To top it all, she had a big mole on her chin, which was also fake but looked real.
If one should see her, they wouldn’t recognize her as Ellyn because her disguise was well deceiving. She had been working in the crown Prince’s residence’ kitchen. She’d just received a letter from Cornell a moment ago.
The letter read, [Find out who killed all the men I gave to Merona. And what happened that night at the forest. I want a reply as soon as possible.]
Ellyn read through the letter again before crumbling it and chewed it up. She had been trying to find that out even before receiving this letter. What happened that night was unbelievable even to her, she till couldn’t believe how all those men were killed. They were slayers, the most trained and skilled men of the duke.
She was part of those slayers herself, but she wasn’t as skilled as those who were killed that night. Cornell had been pissed knowing some of his skilled men were dead. Their sudden death was unusual, even before she read the letter, she had already been monitoring Ara’s movement and knew of the ambush planned for her and the crown Prince.
Merona and Cornell were close allies for years now, and Ellyn already figured that out, and she knew how many men Cornell had given the queen, however even with the death of those men now, he still had many more from where those came from.
Nevertheless, the ones Cornell sent weren’t his higher up men, but they were not considered weak as well. They were even higher than Ellyn herself.
’How did the couple come back alive?’
Ellyn’s mind was filled with thoughts as she walked to the other side of the crown Prince’s residence with her hideous appearance. She didn’t even mind the people giving her strange looks and continued to walk towards the soldiers quarters.
Ara had been injured badly, but the crown Prince had returned to the palace without nary a scratch on him. What does that mean? Ellyn had an unerring instinct, and her gut told her that she was missing something important this time. Something simple that was overlooked.
Like Ara who was injured, if it was true that she got injured at the ambush; it wouldn’t be something small, because the slayers don’t use something harmless to attack...then how did she survive if that was the case?
Ellyn kept pondering on the matter but it brought her no results, so, she halted and scratched her neck. First, she was here at the soldiers quarters to find a witness from the reinforcement unit that were sent to support the crown Prince that night.
Moreover, she couldn’t wait to get a witness and report all the exciting news to Cornell, like one of the most exciting news was; one of the crown Prince’s men had betrayed him two days ago! The soldier was bought with a chest of gold by the queen, and she’d witnessed the interactions.
Even though the queen and Cornell had maintained friendly relationship both in publicity and privately, however that wasn’t necessarily the entire truth. The duke trusted no one, which was why she had to report this as well.
Ellyn, who was currently sneaking to the soldiers quarters was so confident in her skills of seduction. She was here to seduce one of the men who witnessed the happenings that night. She would make sure she gets all the information out today!
However, Ellyn who was here to seduce had completely forgotten how hideous her face was, the fact that she was still in a disguise had completely slipped her mind until a soldier pointed it out. As she was about to enter one of the soldiers room_
"Hey, young lady! Where do you think you are going? The palace maids aren’t allowed here. Leave immediately!"
She rolled her eyes in annoyance. Now she’d have to seduce this one too? She mused before slowly turning to face him with a smile she assumed to be sultry, which in reality looked like a dead man smiling, "Oh come on, how can you talk to a beauty like this? If you can let me be and be nice, I’d spare you a passionate night...what do you say we_"
The soldier’s face scrunched up in disgust, "Passionate night with an ugly lady like you? Che, over my dead corpse! Get the fucking hell out of this premises before I serve your head to the wild dogs!"

Inside the the parlour room of the crown Prince’s residence sat Anne and Emma,
"What do you mean I can’t see my sister today?" Anne asked Emma. She had come to the palace to let her sister know about something important, and besides they hadn’t met in a long time now. Anne had been depressed for days and needed someone to talk to, but now this?
Her heart sank as Emma looked at her with a regretful expression, "I am sorry, my lady. But lady Ara hasn’t been feeling so well, and the crown Prince had instructed not to allow any visitors at the moment, even if it’s family."
Anne’s eyebrows knitted together, "What’s wrong with her? Is her sickness that serious?" She asked worryingly.
"No, it’s just a fever and a cold. And the physician said she needed to rest, she’s been sleeping all day today. His Highness said you can visit later when she’s feeling better..."
Emma had no choice but to deceive Anne. Only few in the palace knew about the attack on the crown Prince and his wife, and Ara’s injuries. But otherwise, the news hadn’t been known outside the palace. And Hamon wanted it to stay around the palace alone.
Even the Boxton’s were completely unaware of it. As Ara had requested the crown Prince not to let them know, she wouldn’t want her family to also worry about her. Though, Ara was unaware of her sister’s visit today since she was sleeping at the moment, but Hamon knew and told Emma to tell Anne those words.
Anne still looked worried as she asked, "Are you sure it’s nothing serious?"
"Yes, she’ll be fine in a day or two."
Anne sighed in disappointment of not being able to meet her sister today. She had so much to say to her. She had been contemplating their father’s words of sending her to Zari to their aunt’s place. Ever since Merek had left the mansion, her life hadn’t been the same again, she felt lonely and depressed, and abandoned. Even the mansion had no more light in it anymore; Henry rarely came home and spent all his days in the Boxton’s soldiers quarters, same with their father, who only returned once a week to check on things in the mansion.
Merek had been the main reason she wanted to stay in the mansion before, but now that he was gone to who knows where without even telling her; she felt broken and abandoned, however she’d sometimes think she felt his presence in her room at night or maybe it was just her hallucination because she’d missed him so much...
Anne glanced back at Emma, "Very well, tell her to take care of her health then. I’ll come and visit her when she’s well..." She said as she stood from her seat.
"Yes, my lady. Am sure lady Ara has missed you too, but don’t worry, immediately she gets better, I’ll make sure to send you a letter."
Anne forced a smile, "Thank you..."
Emma sensed something was wrong with Anne, but she didn’t ask and waved at her, "Please take care of yourself, my lady."
Anne gave a small nod and dragged her disappointed self back to her carriage parked outside. She’d brought three guards with her this time, as Henry had assigned them to her because of what had happened last time with Merek. She glanced back at the crown Prince’s residence and sighed again.
Anne didn’t immediately board the carriage and leaned against it instead. She closed her eyes to calm her mind as the warm spring breeze blew past her face, making her brown hair move with the breeze. A single tear drop rolled down her left cheek and she quickly wiped it off with the back of her hand.
What was wrong with her? She had no control of her emotions these days. And her thoughts were always all over the place. The thoughts of why Merek would leave without telling her? Did he find her too childish for his liking? Moreover, anytime she recalled his words that night, it always sent a sharp pain to her heart.
_’Wake up to reality, my lady. If I wasn’t your servant, I wouldn’t be here listening to such nonsense words of confession. I hope this ends here, I don’t want to have anything to do with you again.’
_’You deserve better, my lady. You will stop loving me with time. There is someone meant for you out there, but not me. I am sorry, I can’t return your feelings.’
Those words had kept replaying in her mind like a broken record. She recalled how he turned away from her after her confession. ’Anne you have to stop thinking of this...Merek will surely come back, I know it!’ She assured herself before taking a deep breath and opened her closed eyes. She had a feeling he would come back if he didn’t find another job, yes, he will...
