Chapter 175: Bring his daughter out of it
Chapter 175: Bring his daughter out of it
Claire’s mother, Alison Tudor had been panicking the entire time, she was pacing around the hallway waiting for her husband’s arrival. She’d told her daughter to be careful with her plans, but Claire had once told her she’d gotten everything under control with the queen on her side. Now it seemed nothing was under control!
Alison heard the sound of a carriage coming to a halt outside. She ran out to meet her husband halfway.
Marquis Favian, Claire’s father arrived at the mansion entrance with his face contorted in rage. He was a middle-aged man with a high class in society, and everyone knew his daughter was the most precious to him.
Favian roared at the butler waiting for his arrival at the entrance, "What in heavens name is this am hearing? What happened to my daughter?!"
The butler trembled as he began to explain while stuttering, "M-my Lord, the young miss seemed to have committed some crime..."
"Favian...our daughter seems to have caused trouble." Came Alison’s voice as she hurried to meet her husband with teary eyes. "You need to get her out of it before it is too late. She’s my only daughter and I won’t let them_"
"Relax, Alison. Claire has caused a lot of trouble more than once, so can you just tell me what sort of trouble is it this time. What crime did she commit?" He asked in a relaxed manner, he knew his daughter’s character and had always indulged her and gotten her out of trouble on so many occasions regardless of whatever mistakes she might have committed, so this time, he didn’t fret too much and was confident he could get her out of it as usual.
Alison began to explain with a trembling voice, "T-they said Claire tried to drug the crown Prince with an aphrodisiac. But she’d once told me that the queen is in support of it. Queen Merona had promised to make her the second wife of the crown Prince..."
Fabian sighed with his hand on his temples, "Why is Claire so dumb at times? She should have been more carefully with her plans. But her carelessness has gotten her into trouble!"
"Favian, I don’t care what method you’d use, but I want my daughter back no matter what. She’s too young to be locked up in that disgusting dark dungeon...my daughter." Alison began to cry again.
"Enough, Alison. There is no use crying now when things have gone wrong. I will bring her out of this trouble just like I’ve always done." He assured his wife then turned towards the butler, "I want you to make sure that whoever is in charge of her case is on our side. And go and arrange a meeting with the palace interrogator right away."
The butler hesitated for a moment, he then quickly bowed his head, "I-I am sorry, my Lord. I did that immediately I first I heard of the news, but it was impossible to even talk to the interrogator."
Lines formed between Favian’s eyebrows, "And why is that?"
"Because the crown princess was the one to specially choose the new interrogator in advance, and he seemed to be very loyal to the extent he isn’t willing to meet with anyone regarding the young miss’ case..."
"That crown princess is the main reason my only daughter is being treated unfairly! May she never find happiness as well!" Alison cried out in dismay, her pale face was flushed as tears fell down her cheeks. Despite being in her late forties, she was a beauty herself.
Favian’s face crumpled up in annoyance, "That crown princess!"
Normally, the presence of an interrogator was insignificant, but in such cases, they become a person of incredible importance. Depending on who the interrogator was, the evidence could be easily manipulated and the treatment the accuser received in the dark room could be completely changed, however now that the crown princess seemed to have arranged a new interrogator in advance...
"Did they have any evidence that Claire did it?" He asked the butler.
"It seemed so, my Lord. And I heard that Eleanora Stewart, who often socialized with miss Claire has betrayed her...And stood as a witness of the young miss’ crime."
"Che, that’s was why I’ve taught her never to trust anyone of those lower status nobles. They can turn on you without a second thought the moment they found someone powerful to cling onto." He rebuked, then said to his wife, "Alison, go back inside. I’ll make sure to bring our daughter out of this mess."
Alison slowly nodded, "Alright..."
After assuring his wife, Favian turned on his heels and headed back to his carriage with the butler trailing behind him. If there was one thing he was sure of; he’d bring his daughter out of this mess! First, he needed more information on the case, however it was already clear that the circumstances were unfavourable to his daughter. He couldn’t waste more time feeling angry, he urgently needed those who could lend him their power.
Marquis Favian was not an influential power in Findara for nothing. He excelled in his abilities to judge the situation.
"First, I want you to send out a message to the Morrison household. If things don’t go the way I planned...I have no choice but to do it the other way around. " he said to the butler, who quickly answered knowing exactly what the marquis meant, "Yes, my Lord. I’ll get on with it immediately."
Favian boarded his carriage, he gave his order to the driver, "To the queen’s residence immediately." Before the carriage start to move, he turned to the butler and said, "I want you to cut all of our connections with viscount Stewart. After this case is over, I’ll deal with that Eleanora for her betrayal. The Stewart household will pay dearly for this!"
"Yes, my Lord." The butler bowed deeply , and the carriage soon rode away from the mansion gate heading straight to the palace.
