Wife of The Demon Prince -
Chapter 169: Jealousy
Chapter 169: Jealousy
As Ara walked inside the hall with Hamon holding her hand, she’d almost missed her steps while climbing down the carriage, he then insisted on holding her so she wouldn’t clumsily fall.
Ara felt someone’s eyes boring a hole on her, she glanced up and spotted Claire amidst the crowd glaring at her, because she wore an eye catching black dress, her milky white skin stood out from all. She looked beautiful, not bad. Ara thought.
The letter Ara received said Claire would try to give Hamon an aphrodisiac at the banquet, but she didn’t know how Claire would give him that amidst all the guests, it was most certain that she wouldn’t do it before the eyes of all the guests. But somewhere else, so Ara had to be keenly alert of any cunning movement Claire would make.
Claire had the advantage of being the only daughter of the Tudor household and also having the queen’s backing, one of the great pillar of Findara. If Ara couldn’t avoid the situation like when she’d tried to expose the queen, she’d had no choice but to deal with Claire in her own way. She’d warned Claire at the wedding banquet, and since it didn’t seem like she took her warning serious, Ara also had no reasons to hold back this time.
She hadn’t taken any actions when Claire spread the rumors about her, and she’d only done that because she didn’t want anything to step in the way of Hamon becoming the king, but now, Claire dared come after her husband? It would be foolish if she let this pass again. She would deal with Claire once and for all. However, she would have to wait and see how the brat will give Hamon the aphrodisiac.
Ara and Claire’s eyes locked for a moment, and her green eyes darkened over their short hostile eye contact. Hamon noticed her strange expression and looked at her curiously,
"What’s wrong, wife?" He asked, Ara then glanced up at him and shook her head, "N-nothing."
Hamon nodded then said, "Will you be fine on your own? I want to meet some of the officials at the banquet...You can also come with me_"
"No, I’ll be fine. I want to mingle with the other noblemen’s wives as well, this is my first time attending a public event as a crown princess."
He nodded thoughtfully, "Alright, go ahead." He permitted.
However, even with Hamon’s permission, Ara was reluctant to leave his side. She knew the moment she left him, the women gazing at him would descend upon him like bees to a flower, including Claire.
When she didn’t make any moves to leave, Hamon decided to leave first to go and meet the people, but Ara instinctively grabbed his forearm, "Wait..." She exclaimed, but turned speechless by her own sudden behavior. She hadn’t intended to stop him, and she slowly pulled her hand away from his arm.
Nevertheless, Hamon turned around, he stared closely at his wife’s face, then flashed her his mischievous grin, "What’s wrong, my wife? You don’t want to leave my side, Hmm?"
Ara blushed at his joke. Even Hamon seemed surprised at how she reacted to his words. She then replied with a casual look, ignoring the heat on her red face, "Of course not, there...there was dust on your coat, look." She stood on the tip of her toe and carefully brushed his spotless shoulder, then quickly moved away and walked towards some group of women. She couldn’t bear to look behind her, even though she could feel Hamon’s gaze fixed on her back.
’...Why did I not just go with him?’
She didn’t want to leave him alone, because these annoying women had been giving him looks the whole time, they just had their sultry eyes fixed on him as if they would have swallowed him whole had she not been by his side, even if she would have liked to firmly stand by his side and ward off the pesky gazes, she didn’t want to cling to him that much or Hamon might notice her strange behavior and ask her about it, or worse tease her enough to make her blush even more. Moreover, she needed to see how Claire plans to approach him.

Hamon finished speaking to the man who invited him to the banquet, he was one of the royal officials, but then the man said something that stunned him speechless.
"You know, you don’t have to worry about such things, Your Highness. You’ll have my full support as long as you agree to take my daughter as your wife. Diva, my daughter will be returning to Findara tomorrow, I’ll bring her to your_"
"Excuse me, my Lord. I think my wife is looking for me. Thanks for inviting me today, but am not seeking for a second wife." He remarked nonchalantly with his hands causally in his trouser pocket, he didn’t wait for the man to reply and walked away. He wondered who told them he needed another wife, it wouldn’t be bad to have the support of a royal councilman, but no, he wasn’t interested in meeting his daughter, not to mention marrying her.
Few moments later, Hamon finished speaking with the other royal councilmen, but he was beginning to get irritated and annoyed. It seemed everyone of them wanted him to marry their daughters. Furthermore, everywhere around the banquet hall, multiple women kept dogging his footsteps.
He decided to just go search for his wife instead, but then another older woman stepped in his way with her daughter, she introduced her daughter to him. His expression was blank as he gave the young lady a once over look. It was starting to get under his skin.
What was going on in this damn banquet hall?! The elites of Findara never approached him much before not to talk about introducing their daughters to him. Why are they coming upon him like hounds?
Hamon was beginning to feel uncomfortable with all the women approaching him. They all blocked his way and kept talking about themselves. As if he cared about their favorite colors or jewels. But then he sensed someone’s gaze on him and turned around, he saw Ara looking towards his direction, her green eyes were sharply glaring daggers at the women around him, her expression was hard as if she was unhappy.
She looked at his eyes with an expression he recognized so well...
No way, was she jealous? Or was he perhaps over thinking her expression for jealousy? Interesting. An amused smile spread on his handsome face, he then purposely indulged in the women’s conversation to test his theory, but kept stealing glances to see her expression. He noticed her expression darkened even more as she clenched the side of her skirt tightly.
Hamon couldn’t believe his wife was jealous. He couldn’t help but feel hopeful that she liked him. Was she really...
He began to walk away from the women with all his mind and thoughts on Ara. He was about to turn around when someone suddenly bumped into him and the wine the person was holding spilled on his coat. Hamon’s fine eyebrows furrowed in annoyance as it seemed the person had deliberately spilled the wine on him,
"Can’t you watch where you’re walking, woman?" He asked, his tone laced with irritation.
"Oh my god, Your Highness. I am so sorry, I didn’t see you standing here." She glanced up at him helplessly, and Hamon could barely contain his already rising irritation. However, he felt Ara’s intense gaze, he then stole a glance towards her. Again, she was staring in his direction, what more, her expression was far more serious than before.
There was anger in her gaze, but why?
Unknown to Hamon, the woman who bumped into him was none other than Claire Tudor, who he’d been planning to punish for spreading false rumors about Ara, however he didn’t even remember her face since she was nonexistent to him. He just kept his eyes on Ara, he couldn’t help but wonder why his wife had that expression on her face.
Hamon wanted to see her jealous, so he let Claire approach him, but his gaze was still on Ara as Claire used her handkerchief to clean the wine dripping from his coat.
"I am sorry, Your Highness. How can I make it up to you? I’ve ruin_"
"Wash the coat, I want it spotless." He cut in brusquely as he glanced at his wine-stained coat.
Claire’s face flushed, she then said, "Alright, please come with me. I’ll wash the coat for you, you can come and wait for me in the guests room while I clean it."
It was not something Hamon would agree to do under normal circumstances, but he quite liked the fact that his wife was at least showing jealousy, which means she doesn’t like him being with other women. He glanced towards her before he nodded gently, "Alright, lead the way."
Claire’s smile deepened at such golden opportunity.
