Chapter 160: Confession (part 1)
After Merek agreed to accompany Anne, she immediately went to the kitchen to pack up the food she’d prepared. She and Maya had made a lot of delicious delicacies and snacks.
When she stepped inside the kitchen, Maya had already started packing and placing the food inside a basket, she handed it to Anne. Anne was about to take the basket when she felt slightly dizzy and swayed to the side with one hand holding her heavy head, but she quickly held the cabinet to support herself before she could fall.
Maya who noticed her asked in concern, "My lady are you alright? You look a bit sick today, are you feeling unwell...?"
Anne had been feeling a bit under the weather since she’d woken up this morning with a pounding headache, but she couldn’t miss such an opportunity to spend some time with Merek, she shook her head, "No, I am fine. It must be because of how the weather has been changing lately...I feel alright." She assured with a smile.
Anne soon left the Boxton mansion with Merek, she didn’t bring any guards or maids along even though Maya had insisted to tag along. She just wanted to enjoy her time alone with Merek, so she took him to her favorite scenery at the meadow mountain side. Which was quite famous in Findara because of its beautiful, scenic views.
As they climbed up the hill to find a perfect spot to settle down, the air in the mountain side was crisp and clear, and the brilliant green leaves of the plants stood out in sharp contrast against the clear blue sky. The place was full of bird songs, the singing birds from the distance was soothing to Anne’s ear. While the cool, strong breeze hitting her skin made her slightly shiver as they climbed up, it sent a tingly feeling up and down her spine.
The meadow mountain side during spring always showed off it’s remarkable beauty. Anne had only been here once before and it offered her a tranquillity and peace. Which was why she’d decided to come here again today, maybe her stressful mind would find peace at the mountain side again.
The view of the mountain side was just magnificent, the pair continued to climbe up with Merek holding the food basket, his expression was indifferent as if he wasn’t amazed by the beautiful mountain view, but compared to him, Anne was quite enjoying the view as she kept pointing at anything that caught her eyes.
"Merek, look at those birds on that tree over there! I’ve never seen birds like that before. Oh my goodness! And those beautiful purple flowers over there!"
Anne admired all the beautiful blooming flowers, her light blue eyes shinning in admiration. Merek turned towards the things she was pointing out and feeling happy about, he watched them with a blank expression. He had never been interested in any natural landscape. Flowers were just flowers, and trees and plants were just plants. Birds? He disliked them all in general.
He couldn’t really understand what she admired about all those simple things. How strange...
Merek just silently watched as Anne admired everything she saw and kept pointing for him to look, she had an innocent smile on her face all the while.
He couldn’t help but think she was really strange, how could she look this happy with just this? He shook his head in disbelief. They were really an unusual combination that didn’t match at all. However, they weren’t uncomfortable with each other.
Without a word Merek just walked beside her. The gust of wind blowing his side bangs away from his eyes, revealing his black orbs.
After admiring the perfect view for awhile, they found a perfect spot to settle down. It was under a huge tree. The tree leaves made a great shade for them, Merek spread the mat in the shade. Anne began to unpack the dishes they’d brought.
Merek’s eyes slightly rounded at the content of what was inside the basket. The dishes were more than he’d expected actually. As she opened them, the delicious smell drifted to his nostrils, it made him salivate at the sight.
Although, Merek had once told Anne that her food was tasteless just to make her dislike him, however that didn’t work, and after she’d disappointingly took the food back to the kitchen, Merek had gone behind her back to eat the food even though it had turned cold, he still enjoyed it. She was really a great cook, and he’d also noticed she liked eating a lot. Sometimes he wondered how she could eat so much but still be this thin.
Anne finished laying out all the dishes on the mat. She glanced towards him with a gentle smile, "Go ahead, eat up."
Merek knew even though he was to refuse, she would only insist he eat or feel bad just like the other time he’d told her he didn’t like her food, besides he didn’t want to refuse such mouthwatering delicacies.
He nodded, "Hmm." And began to eat, but no matter how tasty the food was, he didn’t show it on his expression and only ate with a blank face.
As Merek ate, he noticed Anne barely even touched the food in her bowl but kept sipping the water in the water container all the while. His brows slightly drew together as he saw her face again. She really looked sick...was she not feeling well? He thought.
Despite the concern Merek felt, he didn’t ask or show it in his expression and continued to eat silently. He ended up eating more than he’d expected as Anne had been adding more to his bowl and he couldn’t refuse because he didn’t also mind her serving him.
After he was done, he began to pack the bowl back inside the basket. Anne just watched him the entire time, he really didn’t know why she didn’t eat much today, if he could remember clearly, Anne was a foodie. He soon finished packing and set the basket aside before he also sat on the mat beside her to watch the view ahead.
There was silent between them with only the sound of the spring breeze bustling the tress leaves and making the dried leaves fall to the ground and on the mat they sat on.
For the first time ever Merek decided to start a conversation, he cleared his throat, "I noticed you quite like it here..."
