Wife of The Demon Prince
Chapter 147: Keep a distance

Chapter 147: Keep a distance

Not long, the couple finished with their supper, however Ara didn’t eat much as she was preoccupied with the turmoil in her mind to bring herself to eat.

They soon returned to their room. With Ara in front and Hamon was following behind her, she hurriedly made her way to the dressing room before he stepped inside the room. She changed her dress and wore her silky night dress, but was yet to wear her night robe. Hamon’s smiling face suddenly flashed to her mind again. With how he looked at her.

Why was he looking at her with an affectionate gaze she seemed to have not noticed before?

The feelings she had from his gaze contained a deeper sweetness than anything. However, the problem was that nothing had changed; nothing in his gaze, tone, and behavior. What changed was how she noticed everything about him, and how it made her feel, his touch, his smile, his gesture. It all turned out to excite her now...

"You have to stop this Ara, you can’t be having thoughts, you have a lot to do!" She scolded herself.

Her family’s lives were on her shoulders, she had to stop this. But she couldn’t help but feel an attraction towards Hamon. When did it start? At this point, the emotion had embedded itself deep in her mind and sprouted a root.

Whenever he was near her, her heart would beat wildly. She’d always feel some kind of excitement and attraction...Oh No!

Was...was she beginning to notice him as a man, not just a friend? That couldn’t be! She had to sort this out before it became worst. There was only one way to stop all this...to keep a distance from him, Yes. Ara nodded thoughtfully to herself.

Unaware of the person standing at the door. But the moment she glanced back at the mirror in front of her, she jolted back to reality as she saw Hamon’s reflection in the mirror staring straight at her. Her eyes widened and she quickly drew her robe up her shoulders and turned to him,

"W-what are you doing here, Hamon? Can’t you see am preparing for bed?"

Hamon raised a brow, "Didn’t you hear me calling from outside? I’ve been talking to you but you didn’t reply so I came to check if you’re alright." He mused, "You’re taking long to change..." He added.

"Huh...?" She must have been too lost in thoughts to realize he had been calling her. Hamon, however did not leave seeing she was alright, he causally leaned against the dressing room’s door frame with his hands in his pocket as he gazed at her.

Ara broke the eye contact from him and opened her mouth to speak, "You may leave, am not done yet."

He narrowed his eyes at her, "What have you been thinking of? I’ve noticed you’ve been spacing out lately."

Ara quickly shook her head, "N-nothing." She remarked while avoiding his eyes. Hamon glanced at her doubtfully, but fortunately he didn’t press her further. He studied her face for a moment, then remarked, "Hurry up, it’s time for bed." After saying that he turned and strode away with his long legs.

Ara suddenly remembered they were married, there was no way she could keep distance from him. It was impossible to stay away from him while she tried to find her peace of mind. Under the terms of their agreement on the contract, she’d have to face him everyday in their room and in the dinning hall.

"Please, Lord help me." She muttered under her breath.

Ara purposely took long in the dressing room to avoid him, maybe he might have fallen asleep like he did on their first night before she comes out. After thirty minutes, Ara took a few cautious steps into the bedroom. But to her disappointment, Hamon was still wide awake, he sat on his side of the bed with his back leaning against the headboard. He was already in his bed attire, however his appearance felt different to Ara even though he didn’t change from the usual.

Ara froze on the spot as he turned towards her, she then cleared her throat, "Why are you waiting for me? You should go to bed first, you don’t have to wait."

"It’s alright, I was only waiting for you to get in bed so I can extinguish the lamps in the room."

Ara hurriedly said, "You don’t have to wait for me next time, I can perfectly see in the dark, I know my way to the bed."

"Oh, is that so..." He hummed and didn’t object any further. Ara secretly sighed in relief as he didn’t insist on waiting for her next time, this way she’d be able to avoid him.

However, Hamon made to stand up from the bed, she then quickly raised her hand to stop him, "W-why are you standing up?"

His eyebrows knitted together at her strange behavior before he pointed to the lamps, "To turn off the lamps."

"Don’t worry, I’ll turn them off them, so please lay back down." She said.

"No, you should get in bed first, I’ll do it."

"No, please, let me since I haven’t laid down yet." She insisted. Hamon glanced at her questioningly, but he shrugged and sat back down on his side of the bed with his head resting on the headboard.

Ara didn’t want Hamon to come too close to her again, she was already getting a hold of her heart, and if he wanted to turn off the lamps, he’d have to come to where she was. And her feelings might just get the better of her again. Out of sight, out of mind, and out of reach.

While some body contacts were inevitable as a married couple, she wanted as much distance as possible so she could regain her peace of mind.

"I-I’ll turn all the lights off." She announced, but he only gave her a nod. Ara hurriedly turned off all the lamps in the room. She was supposed to leave at least one lamp dim so she could walk to the bed, but she wanted the darkness that would give her the illusion of sleeping alone.

Sharing a bed with someone she was starting to see as a man made her feel strange and uneasy in a lot of ways. The bedroom turned pitch dark. However, Hamon could still see her clearly with his inhuman eye sight, but Ara, oblivious to it, walked carefully towards the bed to avoid hitting anything.

Unfortunately for her, she crashed hardly to a stool. Her knee hit the stool hard enough to make her cry out in pain, "Ow!"
