Why the bug I wrote became a core gameplay mechanic?!
Chapter 455 - 438: The Peculiar Handle’s Back Key

Chapter 455: Chapter 438: The Peculiar Handle’s Back Key

Zhuge Jun picked up the controller with a hint of curiosity and examined it closely.

Many controllers now have back buttons, and the designs of these buttons vary. Some are more restrained, just two small buttons, while others use paddles, which have a more pronounced presence.

This "Blood of Lies" themed controller is impressive; its two small wings aren’t meant to be pressed but rather flicked!

Moreover, this flicking motion has a certain range of movement.

That is to say, Zhuge Jun can use his two middle fingers to flick these two small wings. During the downward flicking motion, the internal mechanism of the controller regulates the speed of the wings, making them move from the top position to the bottom in about two seconds in a slow-to-fast manner.

At the beginning of the flicking motion, there is a very noticeable resistance, and brute force can’t make it move any faster.

Additionally, these two small wings don’t automatically return to their original position; Zhuge Jun has to flick them back with his middle fingers.

When flicking from the bottom up with the middle finger, the wings move noticeably faster, and the strength needed is significantly reduced. Still, it takes about 1.5 seconds to return to the initial upper position.

This operation itself is still ergonomic, and although some adaptation and practice are needed, it should not be too difficult.

The only problem is... what exactly are these back triggers for?

It seems entirely illogical for them to be on a controller!

While many manufacturers have launched elite controllers with extra back buttons, in reality, having more buttons does not significantly impact gameplay.

Because controllers and keyboards are different, the vast majority of games currently only offer "controller button remapping," not "specific game function correspondence with extra controller buttons."

For example, if in a game the A button on the controller is for "tap to roll, hold to run," when a game allows players to adjust button mappings, players can reassign the B or X button to the "tap to roll, hold to run" function and change the A button to whatever function the B or X button had.

That is simply swapping the functions of two buttons.

However, players cannot set the A button for "tap to roll" and designate a back button on the controller for "hold to run."

The back buttons on the controller can only replicate the functions of already existing buttons.

The biggest use for such changes is twofold: one, to remap a back button to a less comfortable or frequently used button, such as mapping the "press joystick" action, which some find counterintuitive, to a back button; the other, to press two conflicting buttons simultaneously through mapping, enabling special maneuvers like the C-style hand technique.

But for both of these scenarios, a simple, pressable back button is completely sufficient; there’s no need for such strangely shaped, long-travel back buttons.

Zhuge Jun temporarily couldn’t comprehend the purpose of these two buttons, mainly because they didn’t automatically spring back, and the travel distances for flicking up and down were even different – quite peculiar indeed.

"President Gu, can the travel distance of these back buttons be adjusted?" he asked curiously.

Gu Fan nodded: "Of course, you can freely adjust them using the official controller app. However, I suggest you don’t make any adjustments for now because they have already been set up for ’Blood of Lies’."

Zhuge Jun kind of understood; these two special back buttons were likely tied to some unique functions in "Blood of Lies."

Nitiandang’s themed controllers were generally produced in a technological partnership with Zhongtong controllers, and this time was no exception.

The previous creation of a miniature steering wheel was in collaboration with the "Explorer 4" controller, which is part of a modular controller series; its front joystick and directional buttons among others can be customized. However, there weren’t any particularly special designs for back buttons before.

This time, however, the collaboration is with the latest "Explorer 5" series controllers, and the most significant difference from its predecessors is that even the back button positions offer modular options.

You can freely disassemble and assemble three different types of back buttons, one being a compact back button, one being a larger double back button more suitable for gripping, and the third is the trigger back button that is currently in collaboration with "Blood of Lies".

This gadget may seem unremarkable, but its price is quite outrageous, with the controller and trigger back button retailing for 549, which in the current controller market, is truly a high-end product.

Even on shopping websites, this co-branded controller has already been sold quite a bit, with many players simply trusting Nitiandang and driven by curiosity for this brand-new controller, choosing to make the purchase directly.

Zhuge Jun couldn’t help but start to look forward to it.

With less than ten minutes left until the game officially lifts its ban, Zhuge Jun turned to examine the latest cameras and live broadcast functions of the experience store.

It is evident that the Nitiandang officials are very considerate, as this live broadcasting equipment can basically ensure the best live broadcast effect.

The quality of the camera is pretty good, and streamers can also use the headphones nearby for audio pickup. Moreover, all the current mainstream live broadcasting software has been pre-installed on the equipment, making operations simple and convenient.

If your home equipment doesn’t support live broadcasting, you could indeed come to the experience store to broadcast.

Of course, though the experience store is spacious and the noise from the crowd is loud, broadcasting live there wouldn’t bother other people, but it still takes a bit of courage to broadcast in front of a large audience.

Zhuge Jun had no immediate plans for live broadcasting, after all, live broadcasting means being at the mercy of the audience, and he didn’t possess the necessary eloquence. He just wanted to thoroughly enjoy the game.

"Speaking of which, those big streamers must be about to start their broadcasts.

"Ah, I’m so envious of these streamers. First, they had a blast at the yacht party for a month, and then they transition seamlessly to ’Blood of Lies’. Damn it, it’s annoyingly enviable!"

Zhuge Jun opened the live streaming platform on his phone and sure enough, found that familiar streamers like Instructor Ding, Li Wenhao, and Chen Tingquan had returned from Coconut City and started their broadcasts.

A month ago, these streamers were invited to Coconut City for an outdoor event, the content of which made netizens green with envy.

This bunch of show-offs had about three to four hours of live outdoor content every afternoon. The content was fairly fixed, either advertising beverages for the sponsors, sunbathing on the beach, going out on yachts for sea fishing, or enjoying seafood feasts and chatter...

What made the audience even angrier was that these people actually took commercial deals – they had fun and got paid for it!

Consequently, netizens were voicing their complaints: How come the party didn’t include me!

The audiences of streamers like Instructor Ding and Li Wenhao, in particular, were extremely angry because among the many streamers and UP hosts invited, some were notoriously unreliable, often erratic with their live streams and video updates, so their audiences were used to it.

But it was different for a role-model streamer like Instructor Ding, who was almost always on stream every day, and if he ever took a break, it was only for two or three days. But this time he took an entire month off!

Even though they proved they were alive by broadcasting three or four hours of outdoor activities every day, it was nowhere near quenching the thirst of the audience.

However, clearly, the anger of the audience was irrelevant. For these streamers, playing and earning money every day was too good an opportunity to pass up.

Fortunately, the month passed quickly, and this bizarre commercial event finally came to an end. They all returned home, ready to start playing Nitiandang’s new game "Blood of Lies".

Zhuge Jun put away his phone and entered the game as soon as it was unlocked.

Meanwhile, more than half of the players in the entire experience store had also come for the new game. Several screens displayed the opening CG of "Blood of Lies" simultaneously, a truly spectacular sight.

The screen went black, and Zhuge Jun entered the long-awaited mysterious world.
