Chapter 420: Chapter 417: The Unresolved Mystery After Unpacking_2
The promotional page was clearly designed to mislead players.
Upon seeing it, players exclaimed, "Wow, the price has gone up this much? And looking at the changes on the promotional page, this must be a major upgrade!"
If the $399 collectible is like this, won’t the $699 one just take off?
The previously mentioned $399 collectible was actually a limited edition that had already sold out and was specifically released in conjunction with "Heartbeat Dream." Each piece was actually sold at a loss, simply to give players a shock and collect negative emotions.
Later, when players wanted to buy it, it was no longer available.
On the secondary market, these items, due to their high quality and scarcity as well as being out of print, were easily hyped up to thousands of dollars and were hard to acquire.
This upgraded $699 version, even though many players might realize that it would be supplied unlimitedly and wouldn’t become an absolute financial product like the first edition, many, out of habit, would still rush to buy it as soon as it was available.
And this trap with the collectible was clearly prepared for them.
Gu Fan immediately replied, "No problem, send it!"
He then sent a message to the company’s relevant liaison staff, telling them to cooperate and completely update the promotional materials for the previous generation of collectibles.
Afterward, Gu Fan put away his phone and continued watching the unboxing video of "Heartbeat Dream."
At this point, the video had already progressed by about a third, but Gu Fan had watched it inattentively, finding nothing particularly explosive in the earlier content.
It was just like most unboxing videos.
For example, the Yarwiette Beach facelift was thoroughly analyzed, detailing the character models, switching mechanics between the romantic and horror content in the game, and more.
Mostly, it was content already discussed by players before, only now with more details.
However, soon, as the video moved into its later stages, the unboxing content became increasingly thrilling.
Especially this so-called "true finale."
"However, dear viewers, while unboxing, the host, Master Dongsheng, also uncovered some puzzles. Such as this ’GM Panel’ in the ’true finale.’
"We all know that by nurturing Elios using the fake-AI method, we can turn her into a real Savior, and then activate the GM Panel through her permissions to directly adjust the game parameters.
"Many players see this as the developers’ mercy, just like the infinite rocket launcher given after clearing some horror games, allowing players to freely enjoy their favorite content in the game after suffering.
"I used to think the same, but I doubted it after unboxing.
"Because I really didn’t find any interface in the game that calls this GM Panel!
"Moreover, this panel’s name in the editor is ’Test GM Tool’, and if you look closely, you’ll notice that the panel’s artwork seems makeshift, with a lot of stretching and rough edges...
"So how exactly is this GM Panel called into the game? I still haven’t figured this out.
"That’s why I wrote on the video cover: Does the true finale really exist within the game’s code? It’s a doubt, a conjecture, I’m also not clear how Nitiandang could call this panel into the game’s true finale."
To prevent the players from misunderstanding, Master Dongsheng also explained some technical aspects, like the name of the panel in the editor being casually chosen by developers just to aid their memory, and it wouldn’t show up in the game—only visible through unboxing; and proper UI artwork should be fine-tuned by a specialized UI artist, it wouldn’t make sense for official resources to show stretching or rough edges, which is very unprofessional for an experienced game company.
This was essentially consistent with what Gu Fan initially explained to Lilith.
Only in regard to how exactly this panel was called, and how many endings related to fake-AI came about were not detailed by Master Dongsheng.
It’s not that he didn’t want to say, but that he really didn’t know.
This content is directly related to fake-AI and is very complex; it’s quite normal that Master Dongsheng hasn’t figured out these issues given the short time he spent decompiling.
Even a top-tier programmer would need at least three to five days to thoroughly understand these issues.
Soon, the video was over.
But unlike the previous unboxing videos, which made viewers feel enlightened afterward, watching this video left them more confused!
The doubts increased!
As the video’s views skyrocketed, the playrs’ questions in the comments section also piled up.
"What? This GM Panel actually has no code to call on, how is that possible?"
"I didn’t understand too well; does this mean the GM Panel is actually just a testing tool for developers? Not actual game content?"
"That can’t be right, the analysis from Play Less Games Network made it seem like the appearance of the true finale was logical. Without it, the game would actually feel incomplete!"
"It’s not deliberately designed? I don’t believe it! Could it be that the God of Code appeared, and the code itself generated a true finale?"
"Ridiculous! Could it be that the host is just hype-baiting?"
