Chapter 259: Chapter 268: Having Fun with a Demon Sorcerer
Instructor Ding watched the CG and began his sharp critique.
"Oh! Is this a Demon Sorcerer? In other games, it’s the sorcerers who summon demons, but here the demon itself has the profession of a magician and can also summon demons? That’s a bit weird, isn’t it?
"This is kind of like a Beast Hunter, one beast summoning another? Is it fratricide then?
"Wow, Elf Hunters really are the coolest. Gotta try playing as one!
"So far, I don’t know how the game’s faction division works.
"But speaking of which, this CG does look freaking cool, bros, I always tell the truth.
"This art style, there definitely isn’t a second company in the country that can do Western Fantasy as well as this, it’s totally up my alley as a straight guy!
"Weird, has Nitiandang really changed all its art resources? Or does the game’s CG not represent the actual in-game graphics?
"However, I can pretty much guess the game’s plot, and I’ve got to say, although it’s cliché, people eat this stuff up!"
You could tell that Instructor Ding was excited, because the CG really hit the spot for him!
There are many MMORPGs in China, but few are Western Fantasy, with most still being martial arts or Xianxia styled.
Even those that are Western Fantasy often don’t have a realistic art style but lean towards a more beautiful aesthetic.
The characters are all tall and glamorous with exquisite makeup.
Sure, it’s beautiful, but it’s easy to get tired of when you see it too much, giving off a very homogenized feeling.
For Western Fantasy realism in art, what’s important is realism, whether it’s the bulky green-skinned orcs, the flame-engulfed demons, or the rough and tough dwarves, their images must be distinctive enough to add to the world’s sense of reality and immersion.
In this respect, Nitiandang’s game is obviously doing very well and is already top-notch globally.
Have to say, Nitiandang is all about the art at C!
Of course, many viewers raised doubts.
After all, we’ve seen what Demon World Conflict’s art resources are like, and they’re nowhere near this refined, right?
Take the orcs, for instance; the original art resources portrayed them with pointy heads and skin that seemed too smooth and delicate. Although they also represented the standard orc image, they always felt a bit off.
The orc in this CG looks much more normal, on par with the top Western fantasy movies or games, even superior in texture.
Especially for those "distinctive taste" players of Western fantasy games who like playing characters like orc matrons, this CG naturally adds points to the game.
But the question is, can Nitiandang really replace all of the game’s art resources in such a short amount of time?
Many people also feel that Nitiandang probably just got serious about making an opening CG to boost the facade, and the actual in-game graphics may not live up to this standard.
As for the game’s story and background, although it’s not explicitly explained, you can basically piece it together from this CG.
Clearly, on the Azerothia Continent, there are many different races with numerous inherent conflicts, often erupting into various wars.
But that’s just the surface-level strife.
In reality, in the shadows of this world, there is a Shadow World. The Shadow World is full of extremely terrifying enemies, compared to which even the notorious orcs and demons could be considered kind.
Of course, in the game’s backstory, the players can take on professions such as orcs, demons, or Undead, which are just a small part of these massive races and are relatively morally upright within their groups.
If the evil forces of the Shadow World were to appear on the Azerothia Continent, then the entire world would be turned upside down, becoming a no-go zone for life.
Hence, the different races need to unite and jointly resist the terrifying creatures of the Shadow World.
After the CG, Instructor Ding arrived at the character creation screen.
"Huh, this game has three factions! Does that mean it’s like a tripartite balance of power?"
On the character creation screen, you can see the different factions.
In previous MMORPG games, they were often divided into two distinct factions, with the factions directly opposing each other. For example, Humans and Elves were natural allies, while Orcs and the Undead were representatives of evil races.
But there was a typical problem with this faction division: it was especially prone to imbalances in the strength between factions.
Players often favored the evil races more, and once the balance of power was upset, the weaker side would find it increasingly difficult to enjoy the game, whether in the wild or on the battlefield, leading to a situation of "faction ghost servers."
Some servers ended up with only one faction in the end, with players from the other faction either quitting the game or moving to other servers.
However, "Shadow World" was divided into three factions: the Human Faction, the Orc Faction, and the Demon Faction.
Within this system, races like Dwarves and Elves were assigned to the Human Faction, while the Undead, Trolls, and Half-Orcs were placed in the Orc Faction, and Demons became a separate faction on their own.
Although this three-faction system could not completely solve the issue of faction imbalance, it was a bit more flexible than having two factions.
Because the game had an alliance mechanism between factions, if one faction became too powerful, it could be somewhat offset by forming alliances. Although it wasn’t a permanent solution, it was at least an improvement.
In addition, the game also allowed cross-faction teaming up, although players had not yet experienced this aspect.
After seeing the character creation screen, Instructor Ding’s eyes lit up, "They really changed all the art resources, huh! Are these models directly from the game’s actual graphics? They look just like CG!
"Let me see...
"Hmm, I’ll play as a Demon Sorcerer!
"After all, I just love the idea of creatures of the same kind fighting each other!"
Before long, a Demon Sorcerer named "Instructor Ding" had been registered.
The appearance customization for the Demon Race was quite extensive. You could choose from a diminutive low-rank demon, or select a tall and muscular high-rank demon with wings.
These two kinds of demons had different racial talents that were suited to different professions.
If you were playing a Tank Profession, naturally, choosing a burly high-rank demon would feel more secure, and you’d also get an additional portion of health from the racial talent.
But, Instructor Ding, out of a sense of mischief, directly chose the image of a diminutive low-rank demon.
In this game, Magicians could summon an Imp at very low levels, and Instructor Ding summoned his right away. The game character and the pet were almost like looking into a mirror - two Imps casting small fireballs together looked quite comical.
After entering the game, Instructor Ding took one look at the game graphics and was astounded.
"Awesome! I knew Nitiandang’s art would never disappoint!
"They must have completely replaced ’Demon World Conflict’s’ art resources, right?
"If you ask me, Nitiandang is really cut out for this type of game. These grand scenes are just exhilarating to look at!"
The Demon Race’s starting location was in a place called "Land of the Forsaken Gods," a desolate land filled with red soil said to be cursed.
It was strewn with various demons that had fallen into madness, demonized animals, and the Human Expedition Army that had come to exterminate them.
Naturally, the early quests involved hunting these animals and demons to ensure the safety of the demon brood.
"Alright, let me see. There are still four hours left in the broadcast. If we go at the normal pace for an MMORPG, reaching level 15 shouldn’t be a problem, right?"
Veteran players know that MMORPG games are rich in content, not only is there plenty of raiding content after reaching max level to last several months, but the leveling process before max level is also relatively lengthy.
Depending on the game, leveling from 1 to max level generally takes between 100 to 200 hours.
Even if leveling is slow, it tends to be slower later on, with the initial stages relatively quick.
Therefore, Instructor Ding casually set himself a target of level 15.
Sweeping through nearby demonized beasts and completing quests quickly, Instructor Ding reached level 5 and then picked up a couple of skills for himself and his summoned demon.
However, just as he was eagerly preparing to go fight level 6 monsters and continue leveling, something unexpected happened.
He discovered... he couldn’t even defeat the mobs alone!!
