Chapter 80: Speedrun Through Undead Town
Chapter 80: Chapter 80: Speedrun Through Undead Town
Under the incessant healing magic, the female fire dragon’s wounds finally improved significantly, regaining her lively dragon vigor.
"Hehe, dragon oh my dragon..."
Roger fondled the female fire dragon with an obsessed look, laughing so wretchedly that the women around him couldn’t help but step away from him.
"You all can rest assured, Mr. Roger has no interest in humans," Perry pushed his glasses up, believing his remark was quite humorous.
However, when he looked up, he found that everyone had moved even further away.
During this brief rest, Roger figured out how to use the Elf Ball; it could effortlessly contain and release the female fire dragon, and while inside the Elf Ball, the dragon could still react to the outside world—truly magical.
"I’ll call you Hathaway," he gently caressed the female fire dragon’s chin, full of anticipation as he asked, "Hathaway, could you take us to experience that, you know..."
"Roar┗|`O′|┛Roar~~"
Soon after, the female fire dragon soared through the skies, with all members of the exploration team clinging to her back and legs.
She could actually carry everyone!
"Wa—hoo—"
Roger let out a hearty laugh, looking down from the sky where the animated corpses on the ground seemed as insignificant as trash, and the strong winds roaring past signaled the exhilaration of freedom!
"Where does it want to take us?" Leon asked, hand covering his mouth to prevent the wind from blowing in.
"I don’t know!" Roger laughed loudly, "It’ll go wherever it wants; we are free!"
"..."
Maru whispered to Tal, "Has his brain broken? Can I knock on it?"
"Do you think he’s a magic tool that can be fixed just by knocking?" Tal replied, exasperated.
The female fire dragon’s destination was clear—it was the only large building in the entire middle layer, Undead Town.
As its shadow passed over the front gate of Undead Town, a dozen mouse shooters from Shamen Village on the walls immediately nocked their bows and shot arrows, lighting up the sky like fireworks.
Once tamed by an Elf Ball, a Monster would automatically be opposed to Dungeon units, becoming a target for their attacks.
The female fire dragon was fast, in the blink of an eye, it flew over most of Undead Town, seemingly aiming for a direct charge at the stone gate to perform a speed-run through Undead Town.
However, things wouldn’t go that smoothly.
"Boom, boom, boom, boom—"
A series of rapid and precise fireballs aimed densely at the female fire dragon!
The source of the fireballs was a group of short figures standing on the rooftops of Undead Town.
[Big Mouthed Little Demon]
Also known as Flame Pea Shooters, they are widely found in the underground Shadow Land of the Elden Ring, notorious for their high-intensity firepower and rate of fire, topping the Elden Ring beast charts.
The female fire dragon had to dart and weave through the air, making things tough for the adventurers clinging to her—they had to hold on tight to avoid being thrown off.
In its attempt to dodge, the dragon inadvertently descended, bringing it within range of a volley from the mouse shooters!
"Ow!" Steeran let out a cry of pain as an arrow suddenly struck her buttocks.
Drew quickly cast a Magic Barrier, but disorientation from being rocked in the air made his head spin, and any fluctuation in his magic power naturally shattered the shield immediately.
The Big Mouthed Little Demons’ anti-air firepower network was very effective; the female fire dragon was quickly forced into a predetermined zone, where it was met by—
[Giant Big Mouthed Little Demon]
"Boom—"
A giant fireball, dozens of times larger than a regular fireball, struck the female fire dragon squarely, and it let out a pained cry.
Crash landing!
"Waaaah!"
Adventurers kept falling through the air, each using their own abilities to save their lives. Drew and Perry exerted all their strength to cast a lower substitute for the Flying Skill—the Floating Technique—upon everyone. Because it consumed less Magic Power and could be activated quickly, they still endured plenty of injuries when they hit the ground.
"Cough cough..."
Leon coughed up a mouthful of fresh blood; it seemed like his ribs were broken.
The injuries on the Female Fire Dragon were surprisingly not too severe; it only hurt its wings and legs during the crash, causing it to limp when it moved.
Roger quickly doused it with a Healing Potion before stowing it away in the Elf Ball. The terrain of Undead Town was too narrow, and the Female Fire Dragon would become an easy target here.
"Let’s get moving," said the Holy Light Knight, whose build could be compared to Tal’s. With only minor injuries, he rarely spoke: "Don’t get surrounded."
Saying so, he took the initiative to carry Leon and Steeran and bolted deeper down the path.
Tal looked up to see the Big Mouthed Little Demons slowly converging in their direction. Not wanting to get shot at en masse again, he hurriedly dragged those who were unable to move away from the scene.
In fact, Big Mouthed Little Demons and Giant Big Mouthed Little Demons only activate when they detect "flying" adventurers. Normally, the only remote attackers in Undead Town are Mouse Shooters and Animated Corpse Soldiers.
The Exploration Team was simply unlucky to have run straight into them.
Gong Qiying would regularly change the positions of the Monsters within the Dungeon. The moment he first saw Birdman Clan adventurers flying over the swamp with their wings, he began strengthening anti-air defenses.
Adventurers could normally pass levels without issue. However, once they used flight, it would trigger the hidden shooters in each map.
For instance Mouse Shooters, Animated Corpse Soldiers, Big Mouthed Little Demons, Silver Knights, Reyalucaria Magicians and so on.
"Bang—"
The Holy Light Knight kicked open the dilapidated house’s wooden door, and with his sturdy back, took an attack from the Animated Corpse hiding beside the door. He then crushed its head with his foot and swiftly dealt with several Monsters drawn by the noise, turning the decrepit house into a temporary safety zone.
Healing proceeded vigorously. If it weren’t for the ample number of healers, the Exploration Team would have been doomed here.
Leon, the first to regain his spirit, said, "Although it was only for a brief moment, I saw the place where that dragon was taking us, located to the north of this town."
"It’s called Hathaway," Roger interjected.
Delay brings changes, facing an unfamiliar and hazardous area, either methodically strategize step by step, or parkour all the way through. As long as I run fast enough, misfortune cannot catch up to me.
The Exploration Team quickly recovered their strength and moved towards the north of Undead Town.
Speaking of fortune and misfortune, although the Female Fire Dragon had crashed, they fell near a stone gate, and the route they followed was the correct path.
Converging Holy Light into a shield, the Holy Light Knight fended off Flame Pots hurled by Animated Corpse Soldiers on the rooftops, while Tal roared loudly beside him to draw the Monsters’ attention.
The rest seized this opportunity to quickly traverse ’Flame Pot Street’, climbed onto rooftops, and with every swing of the sword, took out the Animated Corpse Soldiers.
The entire Undead Town didn’t really have many traps—only the floors of some houses were notably fragile. Breaking through meant falling and starting all over again.
This part of the Underworld is tricky because various Monsters rely on the terrain’s complexity and blind spots to set up ambushes, their combat ability, however, is not strong.
This map was pure pleasure for the Holy Light Knight, whose resistance against both physical and magic was very high.
He swept through, unchallenged, while his companions followed him, collecting Magic Tools dropped by the Monsters. They all ran very fast because there were only a few hours left before the Dungeon would close.
Flame Pots, Drip Stones, Small Souls, King’s Army Straight Swords, Brass Shields... The loot became more generous as they moved through the middle layers.
"A scythe?"
The Holy Light Knight picked up a weapon of odd design and casually hitched it onto his waistband.
Festive Little Scythe
Combat Skill: Shattering Step
Unfortunately, it wasn’t that particular little scythe.
A mad dash.
In the very last moment, the Holy Light Knight shattered the head of a Goat Demon with a punch, while the rest took care of the dozens of rotten wild dogs led by it.
"Huff..."
He heaved a breath, looking ahead at the massive stone gate.
On the stone gate were two slots that corresponded perfectly to two rings.
