Who Designed This Underworld Dungeon?
Chapter 440 - 309: Maggots, Maggots, Maggots

Chapter 440: Chapter 309: Maggots, Maggots, Maggots

Animated Corpses, the most basic type of Monster, are usually the first enemy a fledgling adventurer challenges.

Since the conditions for these Monsters to form are simple, they can arise in any obscure corner, and they appear in large numbers, even more resilient than goblins.

Moreover, modifying them is easy, making them a favorite of Necromancers. You can add any attribute you like, such as ice or fire, and if it doesn’t suit them, the Animated Corpse will quietly perish on its own.

In general, you can think of Animated Corpses as a magical version of zombies, just without the contagious aspect. The chance of becoming an Animated Corpse from their infection is probably lower than the chance of poisoning yourself with a feces pot.

Although people always feel that the Animated Corpses in Sain are slightly different from those outside, perhaps a bit more intelligent? But they are just as weak, the kind that might not even cause a severe hemorrhage in an ambush at the corner, leaving the ambushed person chuckling, mentally chanting:

"Thank Sain for His mercy."

After finishing this line, the bearded man chopped off the Animated Corpse’s thigh in front of him with a single stroke, and as it fell to the ground, he stomped on its head, the motion was smooth and fluid, making one think he had trained on the Stone Village.

"Very well, these creatures are not strong; if we stay steady, we can kill them all, uh, I mean, kill them all." The bearded man’s tongue slipped, feeling his previous words seemed a bit ominous.

The pale Animated Corpses noticed the commotion and staggered towards the Bone Stick Team. They were thin and frail-looking, stumbling after a few steps, probably easy prey even for children. Their only advantage was blending perfectly with the cemetery’s horror atmosphere, inducing psychological pressure.

The cemetery was cluttered with numerous gravestones, each incredibly hard and indestructible. These gravestones formed narrow paths, with Animated Corpses slowly wandering among them. An adventurer who wasn’t careful might hit a gravestone, damaging their weapon — a heartbreaking occurrence.

The Bone Stick Team adjusted their formation per Fingerley’s suggestion. However, the bearded man, eager to show his activity, moved to the front, brandishing a large knife to hack down the Animated Corpses, looking quite imposing.

The Animated Corpses were numerous but weak, allowing the Ranger’s arrows to pierce through two at once. Everyone displayed an expression of having thoroughly enjoyed the killing; one assassin even broke their blade from slashing.

The blade broke? Doesn’t that indicate overuse?

Someone finally noticed something amiss and turned to the bearded man, saying:

"Boss Tusi, something’s wrong here; the Monsters seem endless!"

They were endless. Whenever they finished off an Animated Corpse, a new one crawled out from beneath a tombstone.

Even though the Animated Corpses were weak and hadn’t broken the adventurers’ defenses so far, they couldn’t carry on like this.

"Use Magic, scatter-type Magic." Bearded Tusi suggested.

"Alright!"

The Magician in the team immediately began chanting, and in this state, he could only walk slowly. Meanwhile, his teammates spontaneously attracted the Animated Corpses around them to keep them clustered together.

A dense orb of blue Magic Power, released by the Magician, flew into the sky and scattered like raindrops upon the Animated Corpses.

This was the [Heavenly Magic], a spell from the Calia Royal Family.

"I hadn’t really used this Magic after acquiring it; the area is too large, but the damage is limited," the Magician murmured to himself, "but it’s quite useful here."

Although the damage of Heavenly Magic was limited, it was sufficient to deal with the more fragile Animated Corpses.

In one go, they cleared the surrounding Animated Corpses, and the Bone Stick Team surged forward while maintaining their formation before any new Corpses arose from their graves.

"Not a bad performance," observed Fingerley from outside the cemetery, smiling as he spoke to his companions, "doesn’t it seem like we’re watching our past selves?"

"Let’s get moving." As Matilda walked, her Armor clanked heavily at the joints, its shiny surface looking almost brand new, indicating she cherished and maintained it meticulously.

She gazed down at the newly emerged Animated Corpses, casually grabbed one and swung it around, using it as a weapon, smashing through several Animated Corpses in an instant.

"Why do these petty Monsters appear in Sain Dungeon?"

Judging by her voice, Matilda seemed displeased. She clutched the Animated Corpse’s head closer for a good look, trying to discern what made this weak Monster worth creating.

These days in the Sain Dungeon, she had encountered many Monsters that could "surprise" people, so her expectations for new Monsters from the Deep Church were naturally high.

But these Animated Corpses... do they have any highlights besides their rapid production speed?

"Wait a minute."

She was about to crush its head but suddenly saw something.

The Animated Corpse’s jaw was smashed, revealing a dark throat with something wriggling inside.

Wriggling?

Her adventurous instincts urged her to throw the Animated Corpse away quickly, but it was too late.

The credo of Sain Dungeon was: if you see something abnormal, don’t dodge, because if you can see it, you’ve already fallen victim.
