Chapter 373: Descent into the Abyss of Casas
They all held bows and arrows, intending to shoot the mercenaries into sieves!
People struggled, but couldn’t break through the sturdy iron cage in a short time—it was modified from the cage used for sealing the Curse Frog in Dark Souls II—so the magicians quickly set up protective shields to fend off the attacks, but merely defending wasn’t a solution!
In this critical moment, Kent appeared calm as he crouched down to feel the ground, nodded, and said, "Blast the ground open, we’ll go below."
"Is there really a path below!?"
"Just blast it!"
When the dense barrage of arrows rained down, an explosion followed, the ground cracked open delightfully after a tremor, revealing a dim space below, one that wouldn’t kill anyone from the jump down!
"Jump now, before the cage falls down with us!"
The mercenaries jumped down quickly, barely catching their breaths before rolling aside. Almost instantly, the ground split open even more, and the iron cage fell down too!
"Ah!" A scream of agony.
When the dust cleared and the firelight dispelled the darkness, people discovered that two mercenaries had been crushed to death by the cage, gruesomely cut in half, their remains turned into streams of light returning to the bonfire.
"It was my mistake." Kent said darkly.
"It’s not your fault, blame this treacherous dungeon..." Aston smashed the wall fiercely, then heard the sound of cracking, thick darkness oozed out as the wall crumbled. If Dal were here, he’d surely exclaim: The Abyss!
Strange humanoid figures covered in wriggling black substances emerged one after another, exuding an extremely dangerous aura.
[Human’s Pus]!
Aston engaged one of them first, another was handed off to the other mercenaries, while Kent, under the protection of others, distanced himself and searched for an escape method from the hidden chamber.
"This dungeon certainly lives up to its name, it predicted our actions in advance." Kent smirked, then ordered, "Knock on the walls and the ground, find the weakest spot and chisel it!"
Watching everyone busily at work, he thought to himself:
Although this dungeon’s design is unique, overall it still follows certain patterns, nothing too difficult for me.
"A dungeon is nothing more than things like this, placing suitable monsters in the appropriate places to constantly stimulate adventurers’ spirits to the max, always leaving a glimmer of hope during crises."
He didn’t know that dungeons needed spiritual power for operation, but his long years of exploration vaguely made him aware that dungeons needed to stimulate people’s spirits.
Thus, the true pattern of dungeons is [Desperate Struggle]!
"These monsters are just to put psychological pressure on us, they’re not actually that strong!"
"Ah!" A mercenary had his body torn by a Human’s Pus, blood splattered everywhere, another was smashed into a bloody pulp.
And the third Human’s Pus crawled out at this moment, baring its bloody maw at the mercenaries.
Kent’s corner of the mouth twitched as embarrassment struck fast.
What’s with the monsters in this dungeon? How can the mercenaries not even handle them? This shouldn’t be, dungeons are supposed to continuously provide stimulation...
That’s because Sain’s design from the start was meant to be lethal!
Here, the so-called narrow escapes are only for accomplishing specific events in particular situations.
The "gentleness" of the first half of Casas Underground Tomb is a trap to lure one deeper. Other dungeons focus on continuous spiritual stimulation because they don’t have bonfires; adventurers who die are teleported out, only killing once is a loss.
"No, Kent, the nearby walls are too thick, we can’t chisel through them!"
"Impossible, there must be a weak spot..."
Sweat broke out on Kent’s forehead, feeling like when an old friend suddenly asked you "what the meaning of life is" during a competitive race.
What’s with this Sain Dungeon, why isn’t it playing by the rules, where is my way out!
He undoubtedly had exceptional talents, with great observational skills about the surroundings. If survival tools were available, he’d spot and use them instantly.
But if there were no survival tools from the get-go, he’d be at a loss!
"Books inside the wall?"
While chiseling, someone suddenly found books buried inside the wall and quickly handed them to Kent after digging them out.
He glanced at Aston while taking a moment. Despite being the logistics captain, Aston also had considerable strength. He had just finished single-handedly killing one Human’s Pus with minor injuries and was now assisting the mercenaries with the other two, yet new darkness poured out from the wall cracks.
In this urgent situation, Kent had a hunch that this book held the way to escape alive.
He swiftly flipped through the pages, but it seemed to be a history book, recording some old events of Casas Country, completely useless for their current predicament!
Normally, he’d find such things interesting, but now, this dungeon had surpassed his common sense, though reluctant to admit it, his heart had already—
Several translucent ghost hands suddenly reached out from the book, tightly gripping Kent’s head, giving him a wash even more enthusiastic than Gollum’s!
"Aaaah!"
The sudden attack caught everyone off guard, especially Aston, whose eyes almost popped out seeing Kent attacked, wanting to rush to his rescue, but was blocked by more Human’s Pus.
Old people can’t stand much torment; Kent’s body couldn’t bear the power of the head wash, he was about to die and return to the bonfire when suddenly one of the ghost hands pulled out a...painting?
The painting was slapped hard onto Kent’s face, almost breaking his nose. Just at the moment his face and the painting touched, he knew what it was.
[Painting World "Casas Warrior"]
The scene before his eyes shifted swiftly.
The sky was filled with smoke clouds, yellow sands rolled, signifying war horns echoing across the battlefield.
"Where am I?"
Kent was taken aback by his transformed body but the surging power within it thrilled him.
What... is this—
"Warriors of Casas, charge, slaughter the foes for the Overlord!"
He suddenly realized he was on a battlefield, surrounded by bloodthirsty Casas Warriors, facing the crumbling enemy troops, and behind him...
An overwhelming aura surged from behind, one of a king, an abyss, a dominating presence swallowing all.
Overlord Vonier!
Kent was startled, the name surfaced in his mind, but the mysterious power forced him not to look back at the overlord’s visage.
Meanwhile, his body moved on its own, raising his weapon, charging towards the awaiting enemies.

[Records the journey of an old Casas soldier, the most loyal warrior of Overlord Vonier, participated in every war achieving glorious victories, bathing in enemies’ blood]
