Who Designed This Underworld Dungeon? -
Chapter 35 Anti-Dungeon Organization
Chapter 35: Chapter 35 Anti-Dungeon Organization
Adventurer’s Guild second floor.
After Jack left, Leon watched his departing figure from the window, deep in thought.
"What’s up, boss," Tal asked, "What are you thinking?"
Leon turned away from the window, smiled, and said, "Tal, you’ve been fooled by someone again."
"Ah?" Tal scratched his head, confusedly asking, "What do you mean?"
"It’s simple. Mr. Jack is a swindler whose tricks aren’t that clever," Leon said with a hint of boredom.
"Black Fist" Petain nodded in agreement.
"I had suspected there was something off about that old man from the start, with all his trembling, everyone thought he was having heart trouble," Maru shrugged her shoulders with the look of a mischievous imp and laughed: "Only the big oaf Tal could be fooled by him."
"You!" Tal glared at her, and she giggled, hiding behind Leon.
"Alright, Maru, stop teasing Tal," Leon intervened in the dispute, then turned to Tal and said, "Didn’t you notice anything wrong?"
"There was a feeling, but," Tal said huffily as he sat on the couch, "Jack’s knowledge about the Dungeon didn’t seem false. Didn’t he answer all your questions? He even picked up on the wrong information you deliberately provided."
Leon chuckled, ran his fingers through his brilliant, sunlit hair, and said, "Yes, his knowledge about the Dungeon can’t be faked. But the truer he seems, the more I suspect something."
"What is it?" the crowd asked in a teasing tone.
"Behind Jack, there might be someone giving him pointers," Leon said with a proud smile, his golden hair seeming to glow with his mood.
"My eyes are gonna go blind. Where’s the hat? Quick, put a hat on the boss!" Maru cried, covering her eyes, "Didn’t we all agree to wear hats indoors!"
"Wearing hats when meeting guests is too undignified," Leon replied helplessly.
"Black Fist" Petain nodded in agreement again.
"Anyway, I’m very interested in the person behind him. If we could invite him to join our Strategy Group, I’m sure our progress would speed up a lot," Leon’s eyes sparkled with ambition. "At the least, we wouldn’t fall behind the Strategy Groups tackling other abnormal Dungeons!"
"Maru!"
"I’m here, I’m here," Maru covered her eyes, not daring to look his way,
"Go track Jack. If there’s really someone advising him, remember to be polite to them,"
"Alright, alright, I really can’t stay in this room a second longer,"
As soon as Maru finished speaking, she was ready to leave. With some Night Cat lineage mixed into her veins, she couldn’t tolerate bright light at all.
However, something unexpected happened.
"Ah—murder—" A scream came from the lower floors of the Guild.
————————————
In Bed City, within the Resurrection House belonging to the Holy Light Church.
Dozens of priests specialized in the Resurrection Technique are online all hours of the day. When the corpses of adventurers are teleported to the Resurrection House, they immediately start to perform the resurrection.
A recently deceased person can be brought back in less than ten minutes. If they’ve been dead for longer, it becomes troublesome. If it’s been more than a day, then no resurrection technique would work.
Not every Resurrection House is contracted by the Holy Light Church. In fact, churches big and small all vie to run the business of resurrection houses. Away from Bed City, other Resurrection Houses might be contracted by the Forest Church or possibly the Night Light Church, the Undead Church, and so on.
After all, the Resurrection House is a big business. Every time an adventurer is resurrected, they need to pay a resurrection fee. It’s not too much, not too little, but just enough that everyone grudgingly accepts it.
Inside a study of the Resurrection House, the young-looking Little Priest asked the elder next to him, "Teacher, as long as the time of death is within a day, can the resurrection technique always bring them back? Wouldn’t the legendary Death God get angry?"
"Why should he be angry?" the elderly man asked kindly.
"Because," the Little Priest hesitated, "isn’t Resurrection Technique more like a blasphemy against death?"
"Haha, the Death God is not so petty, and besides, not all deaths can be revived by the Resurrection Technique,"
The old man kindly patted the Little Priest on the head, explaining:
"Only the deaths that occur in the Dungeon can be revived in such a simple way by the Resurrection Technique, because the Dungeon locks the soul within the body. Since the soul hasn’t left the body, as long as the body is repaired and the soul is awakened, the person can naturally be resurrected."
"Once someone dies in the outside world, except under special circumstances, the soul is immediately pulled into the Netherworld. At that time, the body becomes an empty shell. To resurrect this shell, one needs to arrange a complex and costly soul summoning ceremony to pull the soul back from the Netherworld,"
The old man said, "That is a true blasphemy against death. The person performing the Resurrection Technique will be marked by the Death God,"
The Little Priest spoke with some fear, "Marked... What will happen?"
The old man spoke solemnly:
"He will be noted in the Death God’s little notebook,"
"?"
The Little Priest blinked in confusion, and then pretending to have a sudden realization, said, "Oh... Oh! So it’s about being noted in the little notebook, that’s terrifying,"
The corner of the old man’s mouth twitched, but he said nothing.
The atmosphere in the study quieted down, and the Little Priest’s voice was heard again:
"So, the old gentleman who was just brought in is beyond saving, right?"
"There is salvation, but there isn’t,"
"?"
The old man sighed and said slowly:
"He can’t afford the price of being saved,"
Inside the morgue, Jack’s body lay there, lonely.
The morgue, a facility within the Resurrection House that is the least used because most of the bodies sent here are from the Dungeon. The vast majority can be revived, and it is rare to see situations like Jack’s.
"His heart was shredded by a blade, he died instantly, please accept my condolences," the Priest said to Leon with downward-cast eyes, his tone filled with sorrow.
"I am not his family," Leon’s face was expressionless.
"Oh, then it’s fine," the Priest changed his demeanor in a second, stretched lazily and asked, "Do you know where his family is? If we can’t contact them, we’ll have to perform an Earth Burial. This old man was an adventurer, right?"
"Yes..." Maru was shocked by the Priest’s instantaneous change of face.
The so-called Earth Burial is the last resort for lonely adventurers. If they have no relatives to take care of their affairs and did not purchase a gravesite before death, then the adventurer’s body will be sent to the Dungeon.
Besides outdoor adventures, exploring the Dungeon is an indispensable part of every adventurer’s career, and most people agree with this practice.
"The murderer is truly cruel," the Priest continued, "The Anti-Dungeon Organization has been getting out of hand lately, daring to kill someone in the street. This old man is just unlucky,"
The person who killed Jack was from the Anti-Dungeon Organization.
This is a mysterious group strongly opposed to the Dungeon, claiming that ancient Evil Gods are hidden within and insisting that people must destroy the chaos-ridden Dungeon and burn all things gained from it.
Everyone looked at this organization as a joke, but unexpectedly, in the past two years, the Anti-Dungeon Organization’s actions have escalated, from organizing protests and marches to daring to kill someone in the street today.
There are even rumors that the organization has a way to permanently damage the Dungeon.
Perhaps it was Jack’s actions of selling ingredients yesterday that caught their attention, or perhaps it was because Jack led people to conquer the Dungeon. Either way, he indeed became a victim.
"Boss," Maru suddenly spoke up, "Should I stake out here for a day or two to see if someone will come to collect his body? If someone comes, that person might be the one behind him,"
Leon fell silent for a moment, then nodded.
