Chapter 76: Chapter 77: Insanity
The force coming from the key mark in Cail’s hand increased to the point that people couldn’t approach him.
The ground beneath his feet shimmered like a heat haze found in desert. Dust rose, then flattened. It was hellish.
It wasn’t just them who felt the pressure... even Cail, the source, felt heavy. He got the feeling that he was nearing the limit of his physical body.
He looked at the group gawking at him and smiled.
"You guys have any idea what I’m about to do?"
Then he looked sharply at the Chairman.
"I hate people like you who always act like everyone is within your control and you can predict everything that is happening."
Even the manipulative Cail knew that there was no such thing as absolutes. He wanted to control people, but he didn’t expect them to act the way he wanted. He was open to variables.
Seeing this guy act like he was God, Cail felt pissed. He opened his arms and smiled, though his smile wasn’t visible, he said, "You’re a fucking bumpkin. Let me show you something you haven’t seen before."
The space mark on his hand glowed. The abomination appeared. His half body was already back in one piece. The moment he gained consciousness, he freaked out at what was happening around him.
It was suffocating. Whether left, right, below, or above, the abomination felt that the slightest bit of movement would crush him.
It looked at Cail with a look of betrayal.
"You—" it growled, "You dare let me out in this situation?"
The void energy coming from the key gave Cail a buffer time, but it also made him feel miserable. He could feel that his body was damaged from the inside... It was a risk, but if he succeeded, then the risk would be worth it.
"You want to fulfill the duty your master gave you, right? This is it. I’m giving you what you want," Cail said, but his skin was already ripping apart. His flesh could be seen from the inside, and he now almost resembled the cracks on the ground.
The abomination felt something was wrong. Even if he wanted to fulfill the plan, was it right to gather this much attention? He tried to rationalize the situation. "Not like this—"
But Cail cut him off. "Exactly like this." You’re being choosy despite not having a choice.
Then, before the abomination could react, he struck.
Without hesitation, he plunged Sellene’s sharp ice blade which he had picked up... into the abomination’s side.
A wet, meaty sound tore through the air. Black blood spluttered out of the wound.
The abomination shrieked and roared, its limbs flailing around as its ribs cracked and bent under Cail’s force. Cail’s body was already weakened; this strength was pure adrenaline.
With him getting stabbed near his weakness, the abomination felt all his energy leaving his body. Its eerie eyes looked at Cail. It seemed to want to see what he looked like under the helmet.
Cail saw that look and chuckled.
"I think you’re better off not seeing it... for your own peace."
This was a rare moment when Cail felt like being kind.
Then he dug deeper.
Flesh tore. Muscles parted. His hand vanished up to his wrist. One could see how deep Cail was digging inside the flesh.
Then Cail smiled and said cheerfully, "Aha! I found it!"
It was like a child on a treasure hunt in the sand.
A black core, nestled deep in the creature’s body... glowing crimson, pulsing like a second heart.
He ripped it from the abomination.
The abomination felt his life seeping out of him. Although the final order was to die, Virehn had actually left him a saving grace. It wasn’t to die, but to let his soul be transferred to the God by using the key.
Then this body would remain. He could switch the two. If he were inside the God’s body, it could swallow him after some time, but if he stayed in this body after merging with the God, there was a chance that his consciousness might not vanish.
But that saving grace was cut off by this man. He stared at Cail, filled with hatred.
Cail saw his glare. He smiled and slightly opened the helmet. Half of his face could be seen, up to the bridge of his nose. And without a word, the core... still dripping in blood was thrown into his mouth.
The abomination looked at that half face before his final breath. It was younger, but Virehn was the person who lived in his nightmares. There was no way he wouldn’t recognize that face.
Virehn.
Those were his last thoughts as his eyes went slack. The abomination died staring at the face he hated the most.
Cail knew the properties of this core. He had seen it, and he knew he could let his body digest it with the help of his null.
He thought he’d have to swallow the marble-sized core, but unexpectedly, it melted in his mouth... just like the emotion payment and the coin. His body felt hot. He looked down and saw another void color merging with his translucent one. It was black void energy with a red hue, the same color as the core.
"Well, that was quick..." he said, feeling the core repairing his body, "and convenient."
Everyone witnessing the scene was already agape. The sudden appearance of the abomination had made them think Cail had called for backup... then all of a sudden, he stabbed his ally. But that wasn’t even it. He had dug something out of his ally’s body... and ate it.
Seban looked at what had just happened and muttered under his breath,"Fucking psycho."
Based on the body structure and voice, this guy should be very young. Were youngsters this hardcore nowadays?
Then he thought about his lame grandson and shook his head.
Cail looked at them. The helmet was already lowered a bit but not fully. His mouth was still visible.
His lips were pale. The blood at the corners was glaringly red. It was unknown if it came from the abomination or not. But whoever’s blood it was didn’t diminish Cail’s insane image to them.
Just as they thought it was over...
Cail moved again.
Before anyone could react, he raised the ice blade...still dripping with the abomination’s blood...and turned it on himself—
