When Did I Become An Artifact Dealer?!
Chapter 59: Hunting Game

Chapter 59: Chapter 59: Hunting Game

Cail looked at the other half of the picture and took out the half he brought. He pieced the two photos together. After doing that, he found himself staring at a gentle-looking man.

The man had long, waist-length hair. He had the air of a scholar... gentlemanly and well-mannered. Just looking at his facial features, he was a handsome young man. He seemed to be in his late 20s, but he didn’t look old; rather, he had a sophisticated charm of maturity. Cail didn’t know if it was for fashion or not, but the man was wearing gold-rimmed glasses, similar to his.

Cail’s heart was beating as he looked at the picture. Of course, he was familiar with that face!

Although there were differences such as age, style, and aura, Cail was sure that the man in the picture looked exactly like him!

"Should I scream or what?" Cail felt a buildup of emotion inside him, but he really wasn’t sure how to let it out.

Veyr peeked. When he saw that Cail had the other half of the picture, he was ecstatic and gave himself a thumbs-up for showing Cail the picture.

"He looks very hypocritical," Veyr commented as he looked at the picture.

Cail felt like he was slapped. He stared at the picture and thought. Although we have the same facial features, we give off different vibes.

Cail was giving off a very gloomy and cold atmosphere. He wasn’t dumb, but he was really not interested in science and academics. This Virehn, who looked like him, had a gentle and calm atmosphere. The type of person that many people would approach because of how accommodating he was. Based on what Cail knew, Virehn seemed to be a genius researcher.

"A guy that looks like me but isn’t me." Cail adamantly shook his head. He couldn’t imagine himself being kind to people, even if just pretending. Being a researcher? Damn, Cail felt that the path he was treading seemed to be heading toward prison.

He pocketed the photo and ignored Veyr, who was screaming, "Give me back my other half of the photo!"

"This photo—are there any other copies of it that you know of?" Cail asked, pushing Veyr, who was almost sticking to his waist.

Veyr glared at Cail. "No. None that I know of."

That response made Cail feel heavy. This guy resembled him very much. Even if their ages differed, the resemblance was so strong that one look would make people associate him with this man.

Cail sat back down and dug into the lump on the ground quickly. He was venting his frustration while also feeling a sense of crisis. Fuck, that door from before... don’t tell me it opened not because of his null ability but because it thought he was Virehn or something?

Let’s just say the door worked, which Cail felt it really did. Then it was highly possible that it sensed people who were allowed to enter based on void energy... So that means...

Cail shivered.

For some reason, he now felt a bit obligated to know what was happening behind this city’s... or even this entire world’s vanishing.

"Fuck! Why should I!" Cail suddenly screamed, scaring Veyr into thinking that he did something wrong.

Cail was acting a bit neurotic, but what if this discovery would impact him? "UGH! Might as well do something while I’m here!"

Cail suddenly grabbed Veyr. "You know what, we need to scam! Scam now!"

Veyr felt dizzy from being shaken, but he still wanted to ask the main question. "What scam?! The Dealer thing? But before that, don’t you think our situation is a bit weird?! You’re not gonna interrogate me or anything?"

Cail calmed down. His emotions were just like that, very erratic. He tilted his head. "Why should I do that?"

Veyr was going insane. "Of course, for information! You’re not gonna squeeze info from me?! The Hollow Accord is now the most active group terrorizing the world! You’re not gonna do anything about that?"

Cail hugged him and said ominously, "Ahhh\~ don’t worry. We’ll have a lot of time for that. No rush."

With a look of horror on his face, Veyr slowly backed away. "You—You don’t plan on giving me back?"

With a weird look in his eyes (fortunately covered by the helmet, or Veyr would’ve screamed like crazy), Cail said in a matter-of-fact tone, "Of course not. You’re mine now."

He pursed his lips. Veyr felt a bit scared. Heck, he had been feeling really off the moment he was with this guy. The shift in his thought process wasn’t something you could easily follow.

With a gentle push, Cail pointed at the bulge on the ground. "Now help me dig."

Veyr wiped his tears. He felt like a servant now. He should have just stayed with his men.

Looking at the pitiful small back with minimal progress in digging, Cail narrowed his eyes.

"So far, Veyr’s reactions are pretty innocent. Aside from a bit of scheming, he really is a child," he thought. "Good at acting? Or is the master of Hollow Accord really a child?"

Then he heard a scream.

"Waaaaaah! Brother! Brother! What is this?!" Veyr fell down and looked at the bulge in horror.

Cail pushed him away and looked at the protruding thing from the bulge.

At first glance, it wasn’t scary. It was some geometric shape... pretty similar to a pentagon. But once you stared at it long enough, you’d notice that the shape was something that didn’t exist within the human realm.

Cail closed his eyes; his head felt sore, and his eyes bulged. Something was suddenly triggered. It felt similar to forcing yourself to understand something you shouldn’t understand.

Cail turned his head back to it and looked at the fallen Veyr. The child didn’t seem to notice that his eyes were bleeding. Like, literally bleeding.

Walking toward him, Cail wiped his eyes and saw that there didn’t seem to be any damage. Veyr was in a state of shock, just staring agape in the direction of the geometric shape.

Then, there was a voice. It came from a broken speaker on the train track.

[Welcome, welcome, welcome! I guess someone managed to trigger the gift that I left behind?] It was a gentle voice, as if a brother were speaking gently to his little siblings.

Cail looked up. The moment he heard that voice, he felt like vomiting. It sounded like his, but that sickly gentleness was something he could never achieve.

[I actually never expected it to be triggered, but if it was, then... That person must be someone like me. That’s the condition: someone with the same ability as me.]

[Now now, let’s not dwell on that, shall we? How about I explain the game I left behind? This is called the Hunting Game! You want the key? Unfortunately, someone already got it. But no worries! As long as you kill the person with the key, you can have it.]

Cail paled. He rolled up his sleeve and saw an additional mark. It was the mark of the geometric shape.

[Oh, by the way.] This time, the voice sounded very familiar to Cail. It was exactly the tone he used when screwing people over.

[This is a broadcast... Hahahahaha! Or else, why would I leave everything working?!]

[I know the person who can activate this has the same ability as mine... But I’m 100% sure this won’t be triggered. Because I’m unique! If it did...]

[You need to die.]
