Chapter 54: Chapter 54: A Mess

The entire room went silent after hearing what the Tyrant said. It was audacious. Seban was old, but he was a well-known freak when he was young. He was powerful and crazy. This Tyrant... they didn’t know if this was the young calf not fearing danger mentality or if he was just strong enough to dare to be arrogant toward Seban.

Seban was also a bit taken aback. At first, he was silent for a few seconds before bursting out laughing.

"HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!" He was basically cackling with laughter, even holding his stomach because of the spasms.

He wiped the tears from his eyes. "Oh boy. That was hilarious as hell. Who would have thought that I, the respected general who participated in the God’s Battlefield Rift, would be treated like this by a mere junior?"

He looked sharply at the Tyrant. That look didn’t contain anger or humiliation. It was filled with fire and eagerness. "Since you dare to do that, then you better be confident you can handle me." With that, an immeasurable amount of pressure suddenly emitted from Seban.

The glass shattered. Those weak void users covered their ears. They were bleeding.

SOUND MANIPULATION!

That was Seban’s ability.

The Tyrant, still wearing that crazy look on his face, didn’t back down after seeing such a formidable enemy. He formed a vacuum near him to stop the sharp sound from traveling.

Seban smiled after seeing that, but he wasn’t done yet. With a slight push of his right foot, he immediately arrived near the Tyrant.

Seeing that, the Tyrant countered the fist that was approaching him.

BAAAAANG!

The entire building shook. The Tyrant was flung a few meters away before landing. He clutched his left hand and looked at the old man. It was a look filled with murderous intent.

At first, Seban appreciated this Tyrant a bit, but seeing the look of bloodlust in his eyes, he frowned and looked at the butler. "Your young master is slowly descending into madness. You’re not going to do anything about that?"

The butler, still pristine as ever, looked at Seban. His face was confused. "What madness are you talking about?" He then smiled at Seban, but it wasn’t a kind smile. "If that is madness, then all of us are mad."

"Seban..." The butler looked at Seban with an unnervingly fanatical gaze. "That is not madness. That is a thirst for power."

Seban felt a headache. He was talking to crazies. He looked at the murderous boy who was planning to attack him at any given moment and said, "Kid, you really deserve the title of a Tyrant."

The Tyrant smiled. If Cail’s smile was full of coldness and calculation, the Tyrant’s was full of madness and bloodlust. "You’re a weak, pathetic old man." Saying that, he clicked his dislocated shoulder. "You managed to just inflict this injury on me after all your years of existence? If I’m at your age, I’ll probably be stronger than you."

Seban was already too old to respond to such provocation. "I don’t want to kill you. Also..." He narrowed his eyes. "You’re already saying that you’ll be stronger than me if you’re at my age..."

He was a bit pissed by that bold claim. "Do you think it’s easy for a void user to reach my age? You, kiddo, with that arrogance of yours. Be careful not to find yourself floating dead in the river—" Seban was cut off by the Tyrant’s yell.

"Weak!"

The Tyrant’s crazy smile widened. "Weak people don’t speak. You are weak!"

"You held back because you don’t want to kill me?" The Tyrant licked his lips. "Dusty old man, that’s a weakness."

Seban was finally pissed. This guy! He’s sparing him and he’s not even grateful?

"You—!"

"Enough with this farce." A stern voice came from behind them.

They all looked back and saw an old man wearing a traditional robe. His hair was grey... it was not grey because of age, but it seemed like it was his natural hair color. With his hands on his back, he stood straight with dignity and rigidness.

His eyes resembled pearls. They were luminous and iridescent. They were similar to Sellene’s.

"Chairman!"

"Chairman!"

"Chairman!"

They all greeted him.

Behind the old man was a boy. It was a very coffin-looking boy with not an ounce of expression on his face. It was slack, cold, and devoid of any emotion.

"Saeb Eldreth!" Seban’s face lit up when he saw that kid.

Saeb gently bowed. "Elder Seban. It’s great to see you here." Although he still sounded as cold as ever, he did have the basic tone and respect.

Seban patted Saeb’s back and looked at the Tyrant out of the corner of his eye. "Look, look! This is what a promising lad looks like! Strong but not arrogant. Yuyi, you should marry your daughter to this lad and not to that psycho."

Arny (Neris’s uncle) cleared his throat. "Patriarch, that’s enough." Can’t you see that the Tyrant is about to burst? Why are you even quibbling with a kid?

The Tyrant’s attention was now no longer on Seban. He didn’t think much of Seban. He just thought of him as an old man with one foot in the coffin.

What made him wary the most was Saeb.

Saeb... Saeb... Saeb...

He chewed that name carefully. The man that had the same potential as him... and also had feelings for Sellene.

He hated this feeling. He hated anyone that contradicts him. He believed that from the moment he was born, he was destined to be a ruler.

Even if that wasn’t how it was written, the Tyrant was willing to use everything to make people lick his shoes.

Being in power, he knew what it was like to squeeze people to death, literally and figuratively.. in his hands. The helpless gripping, the cries for help... it was exhilarating!

The way the light vanished from their eyes... it was the best show he could have.

For him, Saeb was a contender for power. So he was the person that the Tyrant wanted to eliminate first. He needed to prove that he was better than this plebeian.

Just as the atmosphere became heated, a wall of the building was suddenly blasted open.

That was a strong attack. Although the walls of this facility weren’t as strong as the wall the Tyrant was blasting before, they were still rock-solid to have stood so rigidly for so many years.

It was so sudden. None of the void users sensed anything!

Some of them managed to dodge the debris, while others were almost crushed to death if not for their physique.

It happened so fast that no one could react in time. Then they saw a man stand up from the rubble. He was wearing a black helmet and was carrying a child in his bosom.

He didn’t give any explanation. He just waved and said, "Bye bye," before bolting out.

Seban frowned, and just as he was about to order someone to catch the suspicious man, he felt something behind him.

All of them looked back and saw a horde of angry void creatures and a group of Uldun running toward them.

What the Fuck just happened?

That was their collective thoughts.
