When Did I Become An Artifact Dealer?!
Chapter 49: Small Crazy Couldn’t Defeat Big Crazy

Chapter 49: Chapter 49: Small Crazy Couldn’t Defeat Big Crazy

Cail is now walking ahead with a small tail. A very small tail that won’t stop chattering.

His name is Veyr. A very curious child filled with wonders and questions. Cail had even thought about leaving him behind. But this kid, Veyr, was right about one thing: he could offer benefits that would make anyone tolerate his behavior.

While his ability is environment manipulation, that didn’t seem to be the case. Veyr can detect void artifacts, shifts in void energy, and other anomalies. He’s basically a walking detector.

Although Cail discovered that he couldn’t use any artifact beside his glasses, discovering artifacts is still good. This is his personal stash and he could sell it for whatever price he wanted.

This Veyr seemed to be a bit of an odd one, but Cail could manage it just fine.

Now, Veyr asked one of those strange questions. "Do you think my real parents were boring? Is that why they died first?"

Cail was holding his hand as they walked around the void. When he heard that question, he answered calmly, "Your biological parents seemed pathetic. That could be one of the reasons they died." Then Cail looked at Veyr. "You can detect the shift in the void. Why didn’t you warn your parents about the titan?"

While Veyr’s ability might be very useful to others, it’s not much to Cail. His glasses could see void energy, and he didn’t lack any artifacts. What he valued about this kid was his potential.

Hearing Cail’s question, the kid’s eyes shifted. Cail knew he wouldn’t answer it. It was obvious. Bringing his parents to the titan was this kid’s doing, but why? To kill them?

Cail was straightforward with his question. "You wanted to kill them?"

Veyr paused. "No," he answered unexpectedly.

"I heard that the titan’s heart is a great tonic for advancing levels. I wanted the titan’s heart, but I didn’t expect that the two of them were very weak..."

Cail didn’t think that line of thought was a big deal. "That’s not much. Why did you hide it before?"

Hahahahaha did those guys know that their death was tied to their child?

The kid eyed him. "I was afraid you’d be afraid of me..."

"I bet you don’t care," Cail said, having a bit of a grasp on this kid’s personality. "Neither do I."

Veyr beamed. "I know you’re a good guy and you’ll understand me!"

Then Veyr remembered something. He pouted. "You better not die. I’m still enjoying your company!"

"People around me keep dying. But that isn’t my fault! They’re just bad at surviving!"

Cail hopped over a rock. "It’s your fault. You’re probably a jinx." Based on what he heard, those people probably died because of this child’s insanity.

He carried the child since the path seemed a bit rocky, and he didn’t want to waste time.

He felt a soft smack on his chest. "It’s not my fault!" Veyr screamed. "If they die because of my existence, then they’re too weak to handle me and don’t deserve me!"

"That’s the spirit," Cail muttered mindlessly. His attention was somewhere else. There were void energy users ahead.

Cail thought, Let’s check it out first. If they’re okay, let’s siphon some information from them.

Just as Cail was walking in the forest, he noticed that the little chatterbox in his embrace had suddenly gone quiet. Cail, despite finding the kid a bit noisy, did enjoy the questions. It felt like a puzzle, a mind game.

"Yo. Why did you suddenly turn quiet?" Cail asked.

The child looked up at him, his index finger vertical on his lips.

"Say, if the void talks, will you answer it?" Veyr whispered.

If it were any other person here, they would probably freak out in this situation. But Cail didn’t really care... or maybe he just wasn’t emotional enough to panic because of it.

"If the void talks, then I’m going to stuff you inside its mouth and escape. The void will probably take a long time to chew you, since you seem to be the type that’s hard to swallow," Cail said as if it were a matter of fact.

"Bad guy!" Veyr looked at Cail as if he were someone very despicable.

Cail pinched the kid’s butt. "Yes, I am. Now, let’s tone it down a bit. There are other people around."

Veyr looked around. "Do you want me to pretend to be dependent on you? People are less wary of those who have children."

Cail looked down at him, and strange thoughts started to go through his mind. This kid is really just a kid. He never wondered how Cail knew there were people nearby. That means Cail had perception abilities. That also means this kid isn’t as useful as Cail thought.

If Cail were in that situation, he’d do something to prove his worth. Cail wanted this kid to show other abilities of his, but it seemed like this type of mind game was still too advanced for a child.

Cail patted the child’s head. "Great. That’s a good idea." While Cail looked a bit unapproachable and cold, he didn’t look like a bad guy. Now, with a child, either their wariness would shoot up or drop drastically.

Veyr smiled. Cail saw a bit of innocence in that unhinged behavior. Good child. This kid had a gist of what his role and behavior signified. He knew what a transaction was but didn’t know how dangerous it was to be discarded.

Suicide before torture is good. But when we say "torture," we always think of physical pain. But torture comes in different forms. There is a torture that will not drive people to the idea of suicide—

A torture with a hint of hope.

Walking toward the direction where Cail sensed the void energies, this time, it was Cail’s turn to ask a question.

"Do you know hope?" Cail asked out of nowhere.

Veyr nodded. "Hope is the idea that something might get better later."

Cail thought of something. "Do you know that hope is like candy? Sweet and a treat. But candy melts, right? So now, you’re all sad and sticky when the candy melts."

"That... I don’t understand. What are you talking about?" Veyr looked at Cail as if he was crazy.

"I thought you’d understand the candy analogy better. Hahahahahaha." Cail laughed, then just randomly stopped. "You know what? I actually hate sweets."

Veyr, for the first time in his life, hadn’t felt a bit of unease... until now. Suddenly, he felt a bit scared of this helmet guy.
