Chapter 45: Chapter 45: The Tyrant

"If you come out of your hiding spot, I’ll scream and both of us will be damned by that Tyrant together," Cail threatened.

The woman who was about to chase after him paused. She looked at Cail in disbelief. Damn, did she just get betrayed? "You— after I gave you all that information, this is how you repay me? We’ll be damned! I will scream that you’re my man!" The woman looked at Cail angrily.

"Oh, heck yeah, go on. If I scream that I’m gay and confess to that Tyrant, what are you gonna do?" Of course, Cail wouldn’t let anyone defeat him when it comes to shamelessness. While he might not do it before assessing that guy’s personality, Cail wasn’t shy about doing something absolutely unhinged.

The woman looked at Cail as if she had just met him. "You being quiet and curious made me think you were a shy one. I didn’t know you’d be this shameless."

Cail rolled his eyes and didn’t answer. But still, he tossed something at the woman. The woman caught it. It was a small beaded bracelet. Just as she was about to ask Cail what it was, Cail vanished.

Cail continued running away from the woman. Even when he was already at a distance, he could still feel the glare boring into his back.

Of course, he was all quiet and docile a while ago. Now that he knew what she was scared of, it would be dumb not to exploit it, knowing that she seemed to plan something about Cail other than recruiting him.

"I had lost something as well..." He hadn’t gotten the answer as to how to leave the rift. He was not sure if that was deliberate on the woman’s side, but Cail felt that it was still worth it.

He looked back and saw a dense void energy coming his way. It felt very oppressive, and it could even rival Mr. Quill.

"I just realized that I’m a bit cowardly." Then Cail spat, "No, this is not being cowardly. This is just me adhering to my survival instincts."

"If that woman was telling the truth, then there should be other void users in this rift."

Cail’s eyes darkened when he remembered the bracelet. "Hmm, if she was a friendly one, currying some favor would do something."

...

After Cail left, the entire area around the pit was frozen. A man wearing a battle suit arrived.

He had long hair, thick eyebrows, and a sharp jawline. He was handsome, the type that girls would swoon over the moment they laid eyes on him. He looked calm and collected as if everything was within his control.

The moment he landed on the icy ground, the world trembled, and everything surrounding him shattered.

"Sellene, my love... Come out. Don’t hide. You’re hurting me," he called out gently, in contrast with the brutal shattering of ice surrounding him.

The small pieces of ice that came from the broken ones suddenly moved as if they had gained sentience. The broken pieces lunged towards the man, but the man seemed to have a force field around him, instantly shattering anything before it could come close.

He licked his lips, "So feisty..." He dodged another attack. "Why are you doing this? It’s making it hard for me to love you."

The air became colder. If anyone, even those void users, were here, they probably would have a hard time breathing because of how cold the air was.

Then, a woman appeared immediately in front of him. The woman raised her feet and aimed for his head. The man was quick to respond. He raised his arm and blocked the kick.

"Sellene, let’s stop this meaningless fight," the man said, but Sellene didn’t think so. The moment she was flung away by the pressure, she immediately created some fog and continued striking the man with sharp ice.

But alas, all her effort was futile. Before the ice could even touch the man, it exploded.

"Why don’t you just die!" Sellene screamed. Out of desperation, she froze the entire ground. But then again, the moment the man landed, it shattered.

"Ouch, your words hurt me more than your actions." He ignored her attack as if it was nothing. "But it’s alright. I’m a tolerant man. I can forgive you."

Sellene wasn’t done yet. Huge ice pillars came out of the ground. She made sure not to touch his pressure range and tried to solidify her ice first in order to withstand the pressure.

But it seemed that she underestimated the Tyrant. He was trapped briefly, but after a few seconds, Sellene could feel that the ice cube that he was using to imprison her was about to explode.

BOOM!

Shards of ice flew everywhere. Before Sellene could even conjure another attack, she felt a sharp pain in her abdomen.

"Ahh!" It was maddeningly painful. This guy Tyrant managed to take advantage of her drained void energy. The moment her body was devoid of any void protection, the Tyrant wrapped her core with pressure.

It wasn’t enough to shatter it, but it was enough to suppress Sellene from using her ability.

"No, no, no, no—!"

Seeing that Sellene was incapacitated, the Tyrant wrapped her in an invisible dome made of compressed air.

"My love. You’re hurting yourself further. Just stay still, will you?"

Sellene slumped down into the bubble. She could breathe deeply. The air inside the bubble was dense and heavy. She tried to move, but she was slowed by the constant downward and outward force.

She didn’t give up; she tried to conjure something inside, but it immediately shattered because of the pressure.

Looking at her panicking, the Tyrant bent down and tapped the bubble. "You lost. So stay down."

Sellene glared at him. "Why can’t you just leave me alone? I don’t like you. I will never want you! This is ridiculous. The Tyrant goes crazy because of a girl’s rejection?"

The Tyrant wasn’t angry. He even agreed with what Sellene said. "Beautiful Sellene, if it weren’t for you, I would have exploded their heads into pieces the moment they rejected me." He smiled at her. "My love, doesn’t that signify that I love you more than those people?"

"Psycho!" Sellene gritted her teeth. "Why are you doing this?! You wanted me to be your wife? Do you think treating me like this will make me agree?"

As if she was the one being unreasonable, the Tyrant clicked his tongue. "Love is obedience. You don’t understand that. You just need to sit still and let me love you. You’ll understand it later. I’m willing to teach you how to be an obedient wife."

At this point, Sellene was already growling from anger. "No, never. Just fucking kill me. This isn’t love, this is how a child acts once his mother refuses to buy him a toy at the store. Throwing a damn tantrum!"

The Tyrant tilted his head. "You’re hurting? It’s your fault. I tried treating you well, but you kept pushing me away." His eyes were empty and soulless.

"What well are you talking about?!" Sellene felt like she was going crazy.

The Tyrant looked at her gently. "I gave you freedom. Isn’t that enough? I could have locked you up, destroyed you, and taken you by force."

"You wanted someone who saw you just as you are, right? I saw your flaws, your glimmer and your splendor. The good and the ugly, but I still want you. Isn’t this love?"

He walked towards her. His hand passed through the bubble. He sat down beside her and played with her hair.

"Others wouldn’t have done that to the beautiful you. Look, aren’t I being patient?" He sounded very gentle, but the situation was nothing but filled with forceful occupation.

"Are you blind, or are you just that narcissistic about yourself?!" Sellene could understand him. "All the things that you mentioned, you are none of those! Look at my situation. I’m trapped inside a huge pressure bubble. I can’t move, I have trouble breathing and I couldn’t use my ability. You’re the one who caused this!"

The Tyrant’s eyes widened. "Love. I’m doing this for you. I’m taming you. Trust me, once you get used to it, you won’t fight back again. You’ll be fine."

This is sick. Sellene felt like vomiting.

The Tyrant laid down beside Sellene and looked at her face with fanaticism. "You’ll understand it, my lovely Sellene."

"Others understand that they should have been obedient to me... Just right after they died."

"You’re a smart one, my love. I love you. I have never loved anyone as much as I love you."
