When Did I Become An Artifact Dealer?! -
Chapter 118 - 119: Adena
Chapter 118: Chapter 119: Adena
"Brother?" Adena called.
In front of her was a man. He was wearing a grey t-shirt and was leisurely sitting on the couch.
After confirming that it was really her brother, she immediately squealed in excitement as she rushed toward him.
"Big brother! Why didn’t you tell me that you’re home? I missed you very much." Her eyes glowed. It had been weeks since she met her brother.
Saeb looked at her gently. "I just arrived. Why did you wake up this early?" His sister didn’t need to go to school as she was homeschooled because of her illness.
Adena smiled. "Mama and I are going to Madame Yvonne’s place." Her face glowed with excitement. Of course she was excited. She was rarely allowed to go out, and this was a good opportunity.
"Your mother—where is she?" Saeb tilted his head. Adena didn’t notice the way he addressed their mother.
"Mama’s still upstairs preparing herself." Adena sat beside Saeb. Her eyes filled with concern. "Brother, are you alright? You’ve been very busy these days... Those people from the other side. Are they making things difficult for you?"
She had a vague concept of what a void user and void energy were, but she really didn’t understand the deeper implications. Still, not knowing didn’t stop her from worrying about her brother.
Saeb looked at her. Adena was ready to go out, so her dress and hairstyle were formal. Her eyes were pure and untainted. She looked very well-loved and protected by the family.
He rubbed her hair. "Bully? They can’t bully big brother, so don’t worry."
Adena smiled and hooked his arm. "That’s great." Then she seemed to remember something, so she pouted. "Cas and Ron are bullying me... Brother, when you see them, can you beat them up for me?"
Saeb’s eyes flashed with surprise. "Huh? Why would they bully you?" Adena was the princess of their family. Bullying her meant a smack from mother and a rebuke from father.
"They promised to take me out... But they didn’t follow their word." Adena still felt bad about being tricked.
The situation was that she saw the two of them sneaking around. They told her that if she didn’t tell mother and father, they would let her out of the house. Adena was quick to agree, only to be left disappointed by the failed promise.
"What they did is bad. I’ll beat them once I see them," Saeb said, but he could somewhat understand their situation. Taking Adena out of the house was risky. Aside from getting beaten by their parents, she could also get sick outside and be harmed.
Adena was no longer upset. She hugged Saeb. "Brother is really good to me!" Then she stared at Saeb’s face for a while.
"Although your expression remains the same, you feel a bit easygoing now." She giggled. "Maybe it’s the aura... But it’s good that you’re no longer tense."
Saeb poked her forehead. "Well, maybe it’s because Adena removed my stress away?"
Adena pushed his hand away playfully. "Big brother is the best," she said sweetly. It felt like her tongue was coated with honey. No wonder everyone in the family loved her.
"If big brother is the best, then what about mommy?" a woman’s voice sounded.
Both Adena and Saeb looked at the stairs and saw a regal-looking woman who seemed to have come out of a painting walking down.
"Mom," the two of them called out.
Adena stood up and walked toward the woman. She hugged her waist and started to act cute. "Mommy, of course, is also the best. Both brother and mommy are the best to me!"
The woman pinched her cheeks. "You little liar." Her eyes were gentle and filled with affection. "But of course, you are mommy’s little girl."
She seemed to feel a stare. She looked at the couch and saw Saeb looking at her. She gestured for him to come. "Why are you sitting there like a log? Come here!"
She wasn’t as gentle as she was with Adena, but her eyes were still filled with love and pride as she looked at her eldest son.
Saeb stood up and walked toward her. "Mom."
Cupping his face, his mother checked on him to see if he was injured. Fortunately, all was intact. She huffed, "Of course. You better always be this intact. Or else I’d beat your father."
She was actually very against letting Saeb enter the other world and become a void energy user. But her husband had different ideas than hers, and so did her son. The 1 vs 1 became 1 vs 2. She had to compromise, but her husband needed to make sure that their son was safe.
They were already rich. They could live a peaceful life without entering the void. She didn’t understand why they needed risk. No matter what, she tried to remain supportive.
Saeb took her hands off his face and held them in his. "You and Adena are going out?"
"Yes, yes. Adena had been inside the house for some time now. Walking around won’t hurt. Don’t worry, your father assigned bodyguards to us." She waved her hand.
"Want me to drive you guys?" Saeb offered.
"Stop walking around and rest. You just arrived. No need to exhaust yourself." His mother refused.
Saeb nodded, but he still escorted them to the car. After seeing them drive away, his expression turned cold.
He walked inside the house and went to the bathroom. He opened the faucet and spit out blood. He had been biting the inside of his cheek the entire time to stop himself from making strange expressions.
Yes, this was Cail.
Something had gone wrong that required him to come urgently. It had been last night when he was briefed, and now he was sent here. He even called in sick at school because he was tossed into this mansion so early.
When the man saw that he was quick to adapt like a chameleon, he just tossed him some information about Saeb. It was so detailed that it was unnerving.
Being able to list your child’s preferences is good, but being able to specifically predict their reactions, emotions, and speech is unnerving. It was like you weren’t observing them as humans but as tools.
