When Did I Become An Artifact Dealer?! -
Chapter 104 - 105: Unexpected Friendship
Chapter 104: Chapter 105: Unexpected Friendship
After all the civilians left, Mr. Quill confronted the Hollow Accord Lord. "You! Don’t think that just because the Chairman of the VRA tolerates you, you’re free to wreak havoc." Mr. Quill felt wronged. Why was he suddenly attacked?
The Lord was not a fugitive. His members were, but he was not. It was a pretty strange concept, but yes, the Lord was legal. He and the VRA President had even cooperated.
Because of that, Mr. Quill couldn’t just report this man.
"Yes. I’m being willful because of my backing," the Lord said shamelessly. "How about you? That principal of yours already has one foot in the grave. I think it would be best if he surrendered the academy to the Chairman."
Mr. Quill didn’t want to cause chaos anymore. They were not allowed to use their abilities unless it was a life-or-death situation. The Lord didn’t seem to be planning to harm him.
He pulled Mr. Rosen, who was watching the show. "I don’t want to participate in your idiocy. We’re leaving."
Seeing the two of them walking away from the hotel, the Lord smirked. The aide felt that he was being childish, but he asked what they were here for. "Sir... the mission?"
The Lord waved his hand. "Oh, leave it be. Why did someone even put a bounty on that idiot? His father isn’t blind. He knows what kind of child that moron is. He’d probably pass the crown to his beloved child from his second wife."
"Then why are we here?" The aide was confused. His Lord had even come here personally, but based on his reaction, he didn’t care.
The Lord looked at him. "Of course, to have fun. I own half this city, but I’m stuck inside the base babysitting while you guys are spreading insanity."
...
After Cail left that hotel, he didn’t head straight home. Just remembering his conversation with his mother made him feel a strong sense of repulsion.
He was now walking by the bay. Duskburn City is near the coast and is very popular for its beaches. Cail felt thirsty, so he looked around and found a vending machine.
Cail was half lost in his thoughts. He had just remembered the trap that he would face this coming Monday. He was hungry. There was a lone vending machine near a convenience store’s closed shutter.
He stopped, dug through his pocket for loose change, then bent down to press the button for some cheap canned coffee.
Just as the can dropped, a quiet voice from behind said, "Bad choice. That one tastes like burnt rubber."
Cail jolted a bit and turned. A guy with huge sunglasses and a face mask stood there. He was wearing a Hawaiian beach-style shirt. The buttons were open, showing his bare pale chest. Beside him was an ordinary-looking man holding an umbrella for him.
He looked down at the can he was holding. It was lemon-flavored. "It’s cheap. My expectations were low to begin with." It was just 2 cents Nu.
The stranger stepped forward and pressed a button. Another coffee dropped. He caught it before it hit the bottom tray with a quick, practiced motion.
The sunglasses man smirked. He shook the bottle and tossed it at Cail. "Try this one. Tastes like regret."
Cail caught it and looked at him. "Is this a gesture of goodwill or hatred?" Giving someone a taste that they hated...
But a free drink was a free drink. Cail, who was already kind of wealthy, accepted it.
"It’s goodwill," the man in sunglasses said. "There’s a party going on at the beach. Wanna join?"
Cail had nothing else to do, so he agreed. "Sure."
As they walked side by side, the aide was now also covering Cail with the umbrella because of the Lord’s orders.
"What’s your name?" the Lord asked.
"An," Cail gave his fake name. "An Igni."
Igni is the most common surname of people who lived in Duskburn.
"Local surname, but you look like a tourist." The Lord remembered Cail wandering around the beach earlier.
"I’m visiting my aunt," Cail gave his excuse. "My mother and I don’t live here." Then he eyed the Lord. "What’s your name?"
"Yrin," the man said casually. The aide gave him a look. That was really the Lord’s real name.
Cail didn’t mind company as long as they were chill enough. A ’friend’ with no attachments—just a casual encounter.
They found a shaded spot under a tree. The aide, like a blue cat, was quick to bring out two disposable folding beds. Yrin invited Cail to sit, and Cail wasn’t polite.
There were people playing beach volleyball on the side and a surfing competition in the corner. Cail looked at the man beside him. "I thought you said there was an event?"
The man looked at the beautiful ladies on the beach. "Yeah... but I probably misremembered the time." He glanced at his aide. "When was the event again?"
"Two hours from now, sir," the aide answered.
Cail looked at the aide curiously. "Is it fun to have a personal attendant?"
"Fun at first," Yrin replied, "then after a while, you feel like a potted plant... watered, rotated, occasionally dusted off."
"That sounds convenient." There were times when Cail just wanted to lie down and not move.
Yrin found a lollipop somewhere and popped it in his mouth. "I tried naming him once. Thought if I called him ’Mom,’ it’d fill some emotional void. He didn’t like that."
"So I just named him Y, since he seemed to keep asking that. ’Sir, why?’" Yrin said casually, not minding the smoking aide beside him.
Cail opened the can that Yrin had given him and tasted it. His comment: "It really does taste like regret." He spit it out.
"Why does this taste like coffee and beer?" It was strange. Cail drank it out of curiosity, but yeah, the man was right.
"Because that is a mix of coffee and beer." The man laughed, clearly pleased that the disgusting drink had claimed another victim.
Then he stared off at the sea and asked out of nowhere, "Hey, do you think lobsters are just sea scorpions in denial?"
Cail didn’t think that question was strange. "Probably? What does scorpion taste like, by the way?"
The aide, listening on the side, felt like his Lord had found his soulmate. He never would have thought someone could keep up with the speed of his Lord’s topic shifts.
