Chapter 541 - 541: The Surprise They Prepared

"Congratulations, Tera!!" Amber squealed, hugging me before giving me kisses all over my face.

The girls had rushed over to the waiting room to congratulate me as soon as they could, which was a good few minutes after I had received the message from that mysterious group.

I kissed her back, "Mmm… How were the drinks I made?"

"They were delicious as always~ Ehehehe~ I wouldn't mind just drinking whatever you made for the rest of my life~"

That makes you an alcoholic, Amber… But I understand what you mean.

Amber pulled back and giggled, "Ehehehe~ Now we have your congratulatory gift ready, Tera!"

Oh, I completely forgot about that… But I can already sort of guess what they might be doing for me… They're going to just push me down and have sex with me aren't they?

Amber grinned, "Could you turn around for a little while, Tera? Just for a little bit~"

Right…

I did as she requested and turned my back to her.

Any time now, I'm going to get jumped on by the girls and probably be pulled into a bunch of naked bodies where the girls will take turns riding me, most likely.

"You can turn around now!"

Oh? I didn't get jumped? I guess they might have gotten lingerie which they were wearing underneath their clothes and I would turn around and see them wearing them right about now…

I turned around and… They were all still dressed and… Amber was holding out a key card?

"What's that?" I asked.

"Ehehehe~ It's a key card to access a private elevator that can bring us straight down to the bottom most Ring without any security~ We don't even need to wait for them to lift the curfew anymore to get to the pirates~"

I blinked at her, "How did you even get this?"

"Ehehehe~ We worked really hard~"

"That doesn't answer the question…"

"Hmm… Well… I guess you could say that we found some people who had access to this and convinced them to let us have it~" She answered with a sly smile.

Ok… I think I know… They basically found some smugglers or someone who is connected to the underworld on this station and they either bribed or threatened them to obtain the key card.

To be honest, I wasn't really surprised to learn that there was another way to reach that Ring without going through the security since there was no way those people managed to just materialise a tank out of thin air the last time we were escorting Deviminio.

And that's also not considering the fact that there were a whole bunch of armed men whose presence would have met with some raised eyebrows had they tried to go through the normal elevator.

Speaking of which, the guy hasn't even contacted us after that day but I guess they must be busy with the elections right now anyway.

I took the card from Amber's hands and lifted it up to inspect it, "So… We can go and get the stuff right now?"

"Ehehehe~ That's right! Let's go! We actually brought all your gear here so we just need to slip into the storage room right now to suit up and we're ready to go! Ah… Unless you want to take a break or something before we go?"

I shook my head, "No, no. I'm fine with just going right now and getting this done and over with…"

Honestly, part of the reason was because I was still a little in shock over the fact that I beat Valiea by such a wide margin.

"Although there's something you should also know…" I continued, before I went ahead to explain about the mysterious person who tried to bribe me into drugging Valiea and the reward money and request to meet up with them tonight.

The girls seemed to fall into contemplation for a few moments before Lea tilted her head at me, "In that case, should we deal with the pirates before heading directly to meet with this person? If they intend to double cross us or mess with us, we can just kill them and run away from here after that since we don't have any ties to this station anymore?"

Mara nodded, "For them to offer that much money and to also request for you to meet with them personally… I doubt it would come without any strings attached. Do you still have the Credit Chip that they gave you?"

I nodded and went over to the first box to pluck the Gold Credit Chip from within to bring it over to show them.

Ries gave me a look of concern, "Boss… You didn't try to plug this into your personal terminal yet, did you?"

I frowned, "I have not but… Is there something wrong with it?"

"Not that I can tell right away but… This might just be something that was disguised to look like a Credit Chip and may be designed to transfer Credits and also some kind of virus or something when plugged into your personal terminal…"

"Oh… How do we know if it's a legitimate Credit Chip then?"

"Umm… Can I take a look?" Ries asked, stretching out both her hands.

I handed the Credit Chip over to Ries without hesitation and she received it carefully.

She inspected it with a critical eye, running her fingers over its sides and flipping it over and looking it up and under before finally taking out her personal terminal in preparation to plug it in.

"Wait… Wouldn't it be a problem for you if it affects your personal terminal?" I pointed out.

My Maochatte grinned at me, "Don't worry Boss, I know how to handle this!"

I decided to trust her so I just stood back and watched her plug the Credit Chip into her personal terminal.

She then started tapping away on the holographic keyboard that appeared and another screen came up with lines of code on them which she started to inspect with a critical eye.

All of us were standing around her as she scrolled through the code and read each line carefully for a good ten minutes or so before she turned to me.

"Boss… It's clean. It's a legitimate Credit Chip."

Oh, it is? Honestly, I was prepared to hear her report that the Credit Chip was actually a tracking tool or something after all that but it's actually legitimate?

She unplugged it from her personal terminal and handed it over to me, prompting me to plug it into my Codex and let the Credits transfer over into my Codex.

I saw the number ten million staring back at me so they were also being truthful about the amount as well.

I'm wondering if these people are actually legitimately trying to reward me for winning the competition… Or they were simply doing this to make me let my guard down.

As though reading my mind, Mara answered me, "Do not trust them for a single moment, Captain."

"Eh? Why not? Not that I'm doubting you but… Just curious about it…"

"For them to just casually offer something like five hundred million Credits just to do this… I am quite confident that the other party might be someone important from the Inner Colonies. We did, after all, know that Valiea and her husband had pissed off some important people and they're after their lives, so we would be dealing with them ourselves as well now that we are involved with them."

That's true… There's no other type of person who might try to get me to poison Valiea after all… Even the ones who lost to her were not stooping that low and merely saw it as their own lack of skills instead of trying to sabotage her to win.

"So what should we do? Should we just ignore the meetup?"

Mara shook her head, "That might not be a good idea either. They might take your absence as an insult and they might choose to take out their frustration on Valiea and Ragbar instead. Unless we wish to drag them into this, we would most likely have to solve this ourselves."

"Then how should we handle it?"

"If they just want to give us the money, that would be the best case scenario. But if they wish to tie you down with some sort of agreement or contract, you will need to make sure to reject every instance of it, Captain. Even verbal agreements might be used against you so never ever agree to something that they try to impose on you."

Damn… Now you're really building the case for not meeting them, Mara…

But I guess we might as well just take a look and see what they want. Worst case scenario is that I leave with nothing. Best case scenario is that I leave five hundred million Credits richer.

I think with odds like this, I might as well just try meeting them anyway.

Alright, I guess we will have to settle the first thing on the list before that! Let's raid a pirate base!
