Welcome to the Special-Grade Guild! ~ The Beloved Elf Poster Girl Soothes Everyone’s Hearts ~ -
Chapter 166
- Misdirected Anger
According to Ronny, guilds on the human continent are basically one large organization. There are branches in every country and town, and they can instantly communicate with each other using magic tools placed in each guild. Only a handful of humans can use magic, but they use simple magic tools on a daily basis.
The main role of the guild is job placement. People called adventurers, who are registered at the guild, complete requests collected in each town, and receive payment. Their rank goes up depending on their completion rate, and they’re then able to take on more difficult requests. It reminded me of the guilds I’d seen in games and stories, back in Megu’s life. I see, that’s why we weren’t on the same page.
“Wow, the guilds on the Demon Continent sound interesting. A real homey feeling! It sounds fun!”
“It’s the guild’s achievements, not individual ones, huh. There are parties here, but they’re formed by adventurers.”
It seemed like both Licht and Ravi-san were interested in how the guilds function on the Demon Continent. It’s fun! Even someone like me, a little girl with no power, was allowed to join… Well, it was an exception!
By the way, Ravi-san’s always been a solo adventurer. Apparently, she used to be in a party, but she left because it was a hassle. Sh-She must have had a lot of experiences! And Licht hasn’t registered yet. Apparently, you have to be over fifteen. So that means Licht will be old enough next year.
“To me, the guild members… they’re family. And the guild… is my home. …I mish everyone.”
Ah. I unintentionally let those words slip out. I’d been trying not to think about it.
“…You’ll be able to go back. I’ll help you.”
“I’ll also do my best to get you to that magic circle.”
Licht and Ronny gently patted my head as they said those kind words. Aw, they’re so nice. They’re both going to grow into handsome young men!
“Yeah, thanks! I’ll do my best too!”
I smiled and responded to their kindness. …But.
“…You’re not being honest with yourself, Meg. It’s okay to cry if you’re hurting. That doesn’t make you spoiled. And we don’t think it’s a bother. It’s good to let it all out, you’ll feel much better.”
Ravi-san got up and came over to me. She knelt down and said this, her amber eyes meeting mine. I couldn’t look away.
“It was sudden, wasn’t it? You were confused, weren’t you? Things were changing without warning. But now you understand the situation, and we’ve decided what to do. You’ve been able to sort everything out in your head, haven’t you? …You want to go home, don’t you? You want to see your family, right?”
“…I-I want to see them!”
I wasn’t planning on crying. I was trying not to think about it. But, but!
“Why did this happen to me…? Did I do something bad…? I don’t like this… I’m scared, I want to see everyone! I want to go homeeee…!”
Once I started, I couldn’t stop. My thoughts, my feelings, everything. She probably doesn’t know what to do, but I still couldn’t stop talking.
“Gil-san, Dad, everyone… We promised to always be together! We decided to never be apart again…!”
“Yeah, you’re right… You must miss them. I’m sorry…”
“I mish them! This isn’t fair!”
She embraced me, patting my head, as I wailed. She was saying “I’m sorry,” even though she’d done nothing wrong. Accepting my words. Accepting the role of the villain.
“It’s okay to cry. You can blame me.”
“When you feel this way, you don’t know who to blame, so just blame yourself.”
And so, I, who am so easily spoiled, took advantage of her kindness. Clinging to her, crying, saying whatever I wanted.
When you come to your senses, why is it always so embarrassing?
I was so embarrassed and apologetic that I can’t even look up! I’d just taken it all out on her…! I’m still sniffling and being held by her!
“Hmhm, you feel better?”
But Ravi-san chuckled, as if she could see right through me. This is what being an adult is like! What is this difference between her and Juma-kun, who’s around the same age? Or maybe I’m comparing her to the wrong person.
“Uu, yes. …S-Sorry…”
“You don’t need to apologize.”
She placed her hand on my head and looked at me. I’m sure my face is a mess. I’d rather she not look too closely.
“…But it’s not fair how cute you are, even with a tear-stained face.”
It seemed like the beautiful little girl had won. You’re amazing, Meg! Well, that’s me!
“Th-Then, um… Thank you.”
“…I see. Yeah, I’ll accept your thanks.”
Ravi-san, who’d looked surprised for a moment, then smiled gently and said that. I was still a bit embarrassed, but my heart felt much lighter. This gentle time healed me even more.
And so, aside from my red, swollen eyes, I was back to my normal self. I was full of energy, running around, helping to clean up. I smiled, telling them that I was truly fine, when Licht and Ronny, who were looking worried, turned to face me. Why!? This shock will make me cry!
“Now then, the villagers should be up and about now. Remember? We’ll go with what we’ve discussed. I’m on a quest, bringing you three siblings to the central capital. You’re on your way to your father, who lives separately, because your mother died of an illness. Okay?”
The three of us nodded at Ravi-san’s confirmation. Honestly, even though she called us siblings, we look nothing alike. I asked about it, but she said it wasn’t a problem.
Humans, unlike us, have many children. And there are many orphans, so many families adopt them. The reasons vary, they might be wealthy, or they might need help. I see, so looking different isn’t a problem. And even in our story, I don’t have a mother…!
By the way, the central capital is the city where the emperor, the ruler of the kings, resides. We’re not actually going there, but it’s the most inconspicuous destination. And it’s roughly in the right direction.
“Let’s go then. We’re just passing through this village, but we can pick up some rumors. I want to see if they’re after us, and information is a weapon. We haven’t decided on the next village, and we can ask about their reputations. Things might have changed from what I know.”
Ravi-san explained this as she retied her ponytail. Information is a weapon. I know that well. Ugh, if only Shou-chan was okay, I could gather tons! But I can’t have them push themselves, so I need to do what I can on my own! I made a resolution to keep my ears open and headed for the village that had come into view!
