Chapter 378: Chapter 375: "I Really Underestimated Your Bad Nature
The Wandering Night Walk’s muzzle emitted a deep purple energy wave, its bullets spinning at high speed and piercing into people’s heads.
Skulls burst open, bodies fell to the ground, bringing deep-seated terror.
As long as someone showed their head on deck, or stood by the window, they would be greeted with this extremely terrifying strike. This bullet, no matter what defense props the players used, would invariably result in a headshot, never missing its target, without exception.
It was as though the grim reaper hovered above them, waiting for the right moment to reap lives; they were utterly defenseless.
"Sniper at coordinates (298, 198)! Damn it, and it’s a strong sniper at that," Augustus got the news, yanking the cigar from his mouth and irritably pushing aside the enchanting woman beside him.
"How could such a sniper player appear only now, and specifically target us!"
He clenched his scalp hard, feeling extremely annoyed.
Hot weapons players have always been recognized among the ranks of T0 players. Along with players of the Mentality Series System, they are considered by players to belong to the strongest faction.
Just below the two are the Elemental Magic Series players. Those players are brainless and nauseating, spamming fireballs and ice arrows, causing high damage with safe positioning in battle. Many magic occupations also come equipped with teleportation, which made mages a coveted occupation in player teams.
Then there are the melee players who dare to go toe-to-toe with enemies with real swords and sabers. As long as their specialized skill levels are high enough and they wield their swords fiercely, they are also a popular occupation in teams.
As for those who use bows and arrows, summon pets, employ trap formations, and those from the transformation series, they are the forced choices for sewer teaming. The strength of such players is very unstable, and they are generally unreliable, so players seldom team up with them.
Just like a real RPG game, the game of the World also has a hierarchy of occupations, and there is a player community that argues over which support occupation faction is stronger, sparking debates like "Sorrow of Frost" versus "Joy of Fire." This is a realistic, yet ironic, aspect.
And now, Augustus and his companions were clearly facing a highly potent hot weapons player.
Hot weapons represent a major invention in the development of human civilization to this day; their destructive power and accuracy are unrivalled.
The strength of these players lies solely in the power of the weapons and the quality of the ammunition.
So long as the weapon is formidable enough, even a first-rank player can take an SMG and block-killing people; the damage is not inferior to that of a second-rank Elemental Mage. When facing players with low defensive power, it can even result in extremely swift one-hit kills.
When facing low-rank hot weapons players, second-rank players have countless times overturned.
Of course, if one becomes powerful to a certain extent, like Su Ming’an’s level of defense, then no amount of bullets will cause damage. Just like Carter’s previous desperate shooting, it was basically scraping an itch with gunfire.
But for players whose power gap isn’t so overwhelmingly crushing, those holding hot weapons would become significantly more dangerous.
Restricting players from wielding hot weapons is simply the issue of bullet cost.
Unlike mages who can generate fireballs for free with mana, bullets have to be purchased with points or found by players in instances. They cannot conjure up bullets out of thin air.
Therefore, players who opt for hot weapons are as poor as dogs; all their points are spent on bullet consumption, with no spare points to enhance attributes or upgrade skills. Once it reaches the later stages of the game, as the levels of other players increase and their defensive powers become higher, hot weapons players, who have not greatly improved in other aspects, will be eventually phased out.
Hot weapons streams have always been prevalent among mid-to-lower level players. Spending just over a hundred points on a handgun can guarantee the survival of low-level players, but as levels increase, they gradually become powerless.
Not to mention snipers.
The quality necessary for sniper rifles that can deal damage is not low, and bullets are more expensive than ordinary bullets; most players simply can’t afford them.
If a sniper is indeed needed, then it is only through teaming up and letting teammates concede tasks, to provide for that sniper player.
This is one of the reasons why teaming systems are popular. In a team, there is a need for sword-wielding melee combatants, mages, and hot weapons players. Just like in MOBA games, where there are positions that require farm for output, and supports who voluntarily give up the farm.
A strong sniper means that there might be a not-so-weak squad behind them. Only a strong team can afford a sniper, and moreover, they must trust each other, willing to nurture the sniper teammate.
And now, Augustus’s ship had encountered such an extremely proficient sniper.
"Send Ahan and his team, kill that sniper. Watch out for possible trap formations around the sniper, as well as melee players lying in ambush," Augustus instructed as he had people close all the doors and windows.
The room was in chaos, with two bodies that had been shot in the head still lying on the ground.
In a corner cowered a group of low-ranking players, shivering with fear. They were the "spoils of war" for Augustus and his cohorts, who, after storming this ship, forced them to hand over any clues and useful props they had and made them squat on the ground like dogs, picking out "lucky spectators" for their amusement.
Just moments ago, they had cruelly killed a female player who refused to perform a striptease, stripping her naked and throwing her into the sea.
Several players who had suddenly found their courage lay dead on the deck outside, regretfully crushed before they could act, turned into corpses.
This was their "fun."
Within the hopeless game, in the oppressive instances of the Underworld, such behavior brought them an exhilarating sense of breaking moral and legal boundaries. The laments of their kind made them feel superior.
Augustus looked back at his teammates – those burly brutes who had been ferocious moments ago were now scared like quails, which made his anger rise.
With a "smack," he slapped a green-haired man across the face.
The green-haired teammate looked quite "fashionable" as if his head were sprouting fresh grass.
"Cowards, you motherfucking cowards," Augustus cursed loudly. "It’s just one sniper. Once his bullets are gone, he’s dead meat. Do you have to be such cowards? You’re making us lose face!"
What he said was true.
For long-range sniper rifles, magazine capacity is indeed a problem. The Wandering Night Walk only has five rounds and needs reloading after firing.
Su Ming’an didn’t have the special bullets needed for this Purple Grade pistol. Once it was out, there were none left, and Nailuo was actually unable to fire.
But the fear brought by a headshot or even an exploding body was indeed very direct and had scared these brutes who only knew how to bully the weak.
Seeing Augustus enraged, these few men immediately forced themselves to calm down. To embolden themselves, one even dragged an innocent female player out of the storage room next to them and began to strip her.
The woman’s cries echoed through the cabin, but the trapped players didn’t dare to move.
The warriors brave enough to be angered into saving someone had already died; their bodies lay outside. These were all quails concerned only with their own safety.
"Where the hell is Boris? Where did he run off to?" Augustus asked, ignoring the commotion as he turned to his woman.
The woman with pitch-black hair, like a sea serpent, smiled back:
"Maybe he went over to Soul Hunt. He said he had things to do."
"That goddamn kid, always muttering to himself, with his head in the clouds and acting on his own," Augustus complained as he kicked a chair. "If it wasn’t for the clue, I wouldn’t bother listening to his babble."
He took a seat in a high chair and opened the map he was holding: "When Ahan and the others kill that sniper and come back, we’ll have a meeting. We might have taken this stronghold, but we need to expand. I’m not satisfied with just sitting on this stretch of sea."
"But the current stronghold is held by the Number One Player’s team," the sea serpent woman whispered. "If we target areas between these points and zone twelve to twenty, the battle will be too chaotic, and we don’t have a ’hider’ among us."
Augustus scoffed: "According to Boris," he said, "that kid is talkative, but his ideas aren’t half bad. When he gets back, I’ll have him lead you to find people to kill - also, is that sniper dead yet? The gunfire has stopped."
The woman glanced at the team chat interface: "Not yet, no one has spoken."
Suddenly, a commotion arose from the next cabin over, mostly women’s screams.
"Carter, keep the damn noise down with the women; I’m discussing business here!"
Cursing, Augustus got up, ready to storm into the neighboring cabin and give that kid a beating.
"Boom—"
The wooden door flew open.
A decapitated body was abruptly flung into the middle of the group like a heavy stone hitting the ground, its blood still spurting from the severed neck, splattering all over Augustus’s face.
Augustus’s pupils shrunk as he quickly retreated several steps.
He recognized the headless corpse, clothed in their unique attire, as none other than Carter who should have been indulging in "pleasures" next door.
A thick scent of blood wafted from the other side of the room, accompanied by the screams of the rescued women.
Through that door, Augustus saw a young man with a sword tossing pieces of cloth to the scantily clad women.
"I really underestimated your base nature," Su Ming’an met his eyes.
Su Ming’an’s gaze turned to a shadow in the corner, revealing the presence of Gao De, whose Exploration Degree had reached 80%. He had heard of this name before, a member of the United Group, but he never expected this person to be in cahoots with a bunch of criminals.
Augustus was trembling all over.
He knew his actions would inevitably attract enemies, especially the Number One Player. So, he had long set up a Barrier outside the dock to prevent other Players from intruding.
This was his only Prop obtained in the Fifth World, a Barrier that was impossible to be destroyed by any attack. At the time, it was used to lay out Ming Hui’s altar, with an extremely strong defensive power. Even the Number One Player couldn’t possibly slice through it.
If he could block the Number One Player for two days, his base plan would be complete.
With this ship safeguarded by an absolute Barrier as a base, his rear would be exceptionally secure.
Otherwise, even if he chose not to occupy this ship, a total annihilation awaited him sooner or later.
To stand off against the Number One Player, he had to set up a battlefield first.
But now.
... It seemed that even the "absolutely unbreakable" Barrier could not stop the person in front of him.
The Number One Player, is he truly omnipotent?
"Run!"
Unable to withstand the pressure of standing in front of the Blade Edge anymore, he shouted.
The people by his side instantly started to escape, frequently using Teleport Skills, and some even jumped out of the windows to flee.
Su Ming’an’s shotgun, Glory of the Hunt, was aimed at the person attempting to escape through the window.
"Bang!"
A loud gunshot erupted.
A bullet instantly exploded, bombarding the person’s back, and coupled with a scream that was cut short, his body unsurprisingly blew apart into pieces.
With a Magazine Capacity of 20 rounds in Glory of the Hunt and the sword in Su Ming’an’s hands, the fate of these individuals was sealed.
Su Ming’an turned the gun towards the fastest running Player and fired.
In his hands, Spatial Vibration was no longer used as an offensive Skill but only for control.
Anyone touched by the Vibration would stumble, only to meet a blast from behind, their body inevitably torn to pieces.
At this moment, the fastest runner became the fastest to die.
With an Agility of 43 points, Su Ming’an might not have reached the top echelon of agile Players, but he was faster than this group, not to mention he switched to a blade mid-way and activated the Amber Condensation Skill.
In the instant when the Blade Edge slashed down, the entire ship’s cabin seemed to stand still for a moment.
The brittle ripples turned the air into glass, and the previously running individuals shattered akin to broken glass.
In the next instant.
Scattershot Cross Light rippled through space, and his Blade Edge had already reached Augustus’s neck.
The criminal who looked at lesser Players as mere prey finally showed regret in his eyes.
... Perhaps he was regretting that he should not have provoked Su Ming’an.
But he definitely did not regret his actions towards weaker Players.
Preying on the weak had become his instinct; even if he started over without his powers, he would likely choose the same method to prosperity.
The head flew off.
Picking up the scarce Red Grade Equipment that had dropped, Su Ming’an looked toward the person who neither ran nor moved in the corner.
"Are you Gao De?" he asked.
At that moment, the ship’s cabin fell deadly silent.
The rescued individuals did not cheer for their salvation. They shrank in their corners, shivering as they stared at the bodies strewn everywhere.
Even knowing that the person before them was a savior and not a violent criminal, they were still too fearful to step forward and give thanks.
These Players who chose to steer clear of danger had deeply engraved their fear of the powerful into their bones.
"I am," Gao De walked out from among the "quails", his expression calm.
He was not bound or imprisoned; he looked more like a perpetrator than a victim.
"The United Group really takes in all sorts," Su Ming’an remarked.
"I do not side with the people of the Skull Guild; I simply helped manage these Players," Gao De stated.
"Is a sword no longer a sword, simply because it is in one’s hand?" Su Ming’an asked.
Gao De sighed.
"Number One Player, could you turn off the live stream?"
"It’s already off," Su Ming’an said.
The moment he charged into the ship, considering that there would definitely be women in disarray onboard, he had already turned off the live stream.
"Then I’ll get to the point," said Gao De. "I was deliberately waiting here for you."
"I’m sick of the United Group’s excuses," Su Ming’an raised the sword in his hand.
"... But what if," Gao De looked up, revealing a friendly smile:
"—we found the mother who was selected to enter the game for you?"
