During discussions with the book fans group Red Sky, he mentioned that Ming’an is like "Wallfacer" from The Three-Body, like Xiao Tu from Infiltration.

—Although this book does not approach their greatness, there are similarities. Their persistence unbeknownst to others, their selflessness unrecognized, they hold stubborn beliefs that seem like complete derailment to others.
