Chapter 95: Return
Chapter 95: Return
As one approaches the Valley of Surya, the landscape dramatically changes.
The towering hills and imposing mountain walls on both sides create a natural fortress-like setting.
These rugged barriers, adorned with lush greenery and rocky outcrops, provide a sense of awe-inspiring grandeur.
The valley itself stretches out before the eyes; a vast expanse of fertile land nestled within the protective embrace of the surrounding mountains.
The Valley of Surya is unique among the otherwise elevated and treacherous mountain range.
It serves as a rare low-lying passage, a natural corridor through which armies, traders, and travellers can traverse with relative ease.
This strategic advantage has contributed to its reputation as a crucial gateway between the Eastern Great Steppe and Yindu.
At the entrance of the valley, colossal stone formations rise like sentinels, standing as silent witnesses to the historical significance of this passage.
The valley floor, adorned with vibrant meadows, wildflowers, and winding streams, adds a touch of serenity to the formidable surroundings.
A gentle breeze carries the scent of the nearby forest, inviting visitors to explore the tranquillity within.
Throughout history, the Valley of Surya has played a pivotal role in maintaining the peaceful façade between the Eastern tribes of the Great Steppe and Yindu.
The natural defensibility of the valley, with its steep hills and mountainous walls, has discouraged direct conflicts and invasion attempts.
Instead, it has fostered an environment conducive to trade, cultural exchange, and peaceful coexistence between the two regions.
There was a story about this particular valley that only the people of Yindu knows. And those that lies around the valley knows the story.
This valley is important because it is this valley that managed to make the Great Steppe connected with Yindu and Yindu with the rest of the world.
Yindu is surrounded by mountain range on all four sides like someone had raised up mountains to keep them away from the rest of the world
Yindu might not have antagonistic relations with the tribes of the Eastern Steppe. But that did not mean that they are not wary of the people of the Steppe.
The fact that there is all kinds of defensive fortification around the valley that connected the two region is clear enough indication.
And this is the kind of trade that happens in the Great Steppe and the countries and empire surrounding it.
So, Aeryon had to be creative.
"My situation is different from Genghis Khan. But favourable circumstances could easily be replicated" he mutters to himself
He has his own economic plans. That involves paper money and monetary policy so advanced for this world
When he shares this particular plan with Mayeux it was like Aeryon opened a whole new world for him
Aeryon is sure if this is a game, Mayeux loyalty had risen that day.
"I need a lot of money, a lot of resources and a lot of people"
He rides again and his horse gallops across the green grass and his hair flew as it is blown by the wind.
Not before losing he reaches the area of Korrun. Not far away from his position right now would be Rudya tribe.
His vision seems to be able to see the city and houses that would be built around here.
One of the things that he must have in his city is the infrastructure. If he just raised a few stakes and put sentry post and put the tents inside those area, that is not a city
That is just a settlement with stake walls.
A city , especially the city he wanted to build must have infrastructure like it has never before seen in the Great Steppe
Infrastructure development is crucial for a thriving city.
Aeryon would need to invest in roads, bridges, and other transportation links to facilitate trade and movement within the city and its surrounding areas.
Establishing wells or water distribution systems, as well as waste disposal systems, would be essential for maintaining a healthy environment.
And roads.
Road is the most important. Not only to facilitate trade and transport but also for military purposes.
As for economy, that is also one of the reasons why he wanted to create a city around here. The merchants for Yan also trade with the Great Steppe. There are even some who wanted to go to Yindu, to Roma and to Western Zhou using the Great Steppe.
If he control the entire lower south of the Southern Steppe, and create a large city, he could promote trade and commerce within the city and its trading partners.
Developing local industries, such as crafts, trade goods, or agriculture, would create a solid economic base.
And he knows that building a city involves more than just physical structures; it also requires the development of a cultural and social identity.
Preserving Marynku culture while being open to cultural exchange with neighbouring tribes can enrich the city’s identity.
There is the defensive structure that needs to be built.
Why does Aeryon need to think too much. It is because he has a long-term vision. If he were to truly conquer the entire Great Steppe, he needs to plan everything appropriately and in detail
The things he wanted to do is not something that is easy to do. And nothing is more important than the foundation of his power base.
The city would be his foundation to expand. From the lower south, to the Upper South and rose further to the Central Steppe, to the north, to the west and east.
He needs to considered the needs of the future and the potential challenges
"In this era, people are still very important" he thought to himself. There is so many plans in his mind.
But, all of these plans could not be implemented yet.
It is like a poor person who wanted to open up a business.
He have the most brilliant ideas. An idea that he knew would not fail. But what this poor people doesn’t have is money to start the business.
That is just like his situation.
And Aeryon would not underestimate the people of this era. Garron for example also is the type of man who harbours great ambition.
And maybe there are more.
When Aeryon defeated the Xewa and Ghar tribe and broke the situation around the lower south, it is destined for things to change.
Aeryon meet the Ashana a few days ago.
The Ashana did not say much to him and he did not say much to her.
It is just that the Ashana had summoned him. And Ashana is highly respected in the Southern Great Steppe.
Because of that Aeryon go and meet the Ashana. There the Ashana simply said.
"The wind is blowing and everyone wanted to ride the wind." At that time, even Aeryon is shock. Truth be told, he did not believe the Ashana that much.
But after being transmigrated, it is best to look at things with an open mind. However, he did not put what the Ashana said to be that important.
He just took it as the Ashana reminder. It is not the first time that the Ashana speaks in cryptic words.
As for Aeryon, what he doesn’t have right now, is enough people.
As for resources like food that kind of resources is something he is not worried about.
In the vast expanse of the Steppe, where resources are essential for survival, Aeryon recognizes the inherent value of water and food.
While the economy of the tribes operates primarily through barter and direct exchanges, the availability of these vital resources becomes a significant determinant of wealth and power.
Water, a precious commodity in the arid lands of the Steppe, holds immense value.
It is a symbol of life and sustenance, and its scarcity can greatly impact the prosperity of a tribe.
His tribe benefits from the presence of streams and the flowing river, ensuring a steady supply of water for their needs.
This advantage contributes to their resilience and ability to sustain themselves amidst the harsh conditions of the Steppe.
In terms of food, meat plays a central role in the tribal economy.
The Steppe is rich in grazing lands, supporting the rearing of horses, goats, sheep, and cattle. The ownership and control of these herds become indicators of wealth and social status.
Tribes engage in fierce competition and conflict to secure and expand their livestock holdings, ensuring a reliable source of food for their people.
his tribe, with its access to water and the ability to maintain herds, possesses a significant advantage in this resource-driven economy. The abundance of meat and the ability to sustain their population sets them apart from tribes struggling with scarcity. This advantage not only ensures their survival but also positions them favourably in the broader dynamics of the Great Steppe.
And that is one thing that Aeryon is not worried about.
Even if the system does not give him any strength, just with the resources card that he has been given, he would still be confident to be someone in this world.
"it felt so close that I could almost feel it"
he sighed on his horse as he close his eyes feeling the wind on his face, caressing his cheek and blowing his hair.
His clothes flutters a bit and for a moment the sound of the grass swaying calms down his mind and his heart
He then rides back around the settlement once again.
This ritual of him riding his horse and looking over his settlements is akin of him in his original world where he would drive his car around the block or around the city just to pass on time.
Just to find some excitement.
However, in this world, it is not as leisurely as he is in his original world. In his own original world, he is not a person of power.
But power itself is not that absolute at that time.
The world is not as hard as it is in this world where finding the next meal and water is the difference between life and death
In his time, in his world, when one goes to work in the morning, they already worried about what to eat in the afternoon.
This worry does not pertain to the fact that it is hard to find food but more to the point of which food that they want to eat
In this world, when Aeryon goes out of his tent to go to on his morning ride with his horse he thinks about his plans and each day makes him more anxious.
He worried that the upcoming disaster would come.
At first, he just wanted to survive.
Then his ambition grew when he learned where he is and what he is.
Aeryon grapples with conflicting emotions as he observes the practices and customs of the Marynku tribe.
While some aspects of their culture may seem harsh or morally questionable by modern standards, he understands that judging them solely through the lens of his own time would be unfair.
He recognizes that the world he finds himself in is shaped by the men who lived in that era, and it is within this context that their actions must be understood.
In this era of war and survival, concepts of honour and disgrace take on different meanings.
Practices such as slavery and killing, which may be considered abhorrent in his original world, are part of the fabric of life in the Great Steppe.
Aeryon, having assimilated into this world and embraced his role as a leader, finds himself more accepting and understanding of these practices.
It is not that he condones them, but rather he recognizes them as integral parts of the society he finds himself in.
Furthermore, Aeryon growing attachment to his tribe adds another layer to his reluctance to leave or give up on his tribe.
As he spends more time with the people of the Marynku, he develops a sense of camaraderie and loyalty towards them.
Despite their flaws and the differences in their values, he sees them as his people and feels a responsibility towards their well-being.
The bonds he has formed with his tribe, coupled with his ambitions for their future, create a sense of conflict within him.
Aeryon perspective is shaped by his understanding of the era he now inhabits.
While he may not agree with all the customs and practices of the Marynku, he has come to accept them as part of the reality he finds himself in.
He was about to return to his tent when a scout came to him and relayed a news
The scout’s urgent message sent a surge of adrenaline coursing through Aeryon veins. Without a moment’s hesitation, he swiftly dismounted from his horse, handing over the reins to the capable horse keeper.
With determined strides, he raced towards his tent
As he approached the entrance, his heart pounding in his chest, Aeryon hand instinctively reached for the flapping curtain.
With a firm push, the curtain yielded, revealing the interior of his tent bathed in the golden hues of the morning sun.
The light spilled through, casting long shadows on the ground, and illuminating the figure seated before him.
"You’re back. Hahaha!" Aeryon laugh as he enter the tent
