Chapter 75: Rushed

Chapter 75: Rushed

Marriage is sacred in the eyes of the Skyfather and the Earthmother.

And today, Aeryon and Garron would meet to discuss marriage. But they both know that this marriage is not the same kind of marriage that the common people do

This is a political marriage.

In the context of a political marriage, the meaning of this marriage extends beyond the personal and emotional aspects typically associated with it.

Instead, it becomes a strategic alliance or partnership between two individuals or families for political, social, or economic purposes.

In this case, the assurances of both tribes that they would not attack one another

Garron send his daughter to Aeryon to spy on him because he senses danger from Aeryon. And this is a danger he could not contain

But he could try to tame.

So, a marriage was set up

The primary objective of a political marriage in the Steppe is to strengthen or solidify relationships between different tribes.

While Garron also fears Aeryon, he also noted that Aeryon could offer him great influence and power.

He could see it the moment Aeryon managed to destroy the Xewa and Ghar tribe.

In such marriages, the individuals involved often have limited or no say in choosing their partners, as the union is primarily driven by considerations of power, diplomacy, or the pursuit of specific goals.

But it is different for Garron.

Right now, in his tent, there is Ayera.

And she has spoken with his father

The plan had changed.

For now, any assassination attempt must be stopped.

Garron tells his daughter all of his plans. Ironically enough, garron trusted Ayera the most out of all his children.

Probably because she has no chance to inherit the tribe, he feels more comfortable speaking with her and telling his innermost thoughts

It could be said that out of all the children that Garron has, Ayera understand her father the most

She understood her father obsession to return back to the Central Steppe in glory, toe expand the tribe like the heyday of her grandfather time

And Garron ask her, if she would not mind marrying Aeryon. Garron might seem cunning but Ayera.... Ayera is someone he truly loves sincerely.

Ayera could see from the gaze of her father that if she did not agree, her father would not force her.

Garron assure her that if she did not want to marry Aeryon, there is other way to pacify the young chief.

He came with a plan. The plan is for the interest of the tribe and for himself. But that plan could also serve as a leverage to free Ayera from this marriage if she wanted it.

Ayera sighed. They do not speak much but all the things that needs to be said, has already been said.

She could understand her father difficulties but she also understood why her father send him to Aeryon.

Sending her to Aeryon also serves as her protection. For a moment she thought about it. She remembered what happens just a few days ago.

And that smug smile. She chuckles at herself.

Her father looks at him and she shakes her head.

"It is fine. Let’s go through with it" Garron frowned.

There is a moment of silence between them and he sighed

Then he spoke

"If you are doing this for me- "

Ayera shakes her head.

"I understand you" she said.

"And.... if I am here... it would be better for the tribe"

"You’re doing it for the tribe?"

Ayera chuckles. She has always been brave. But she also knows her own situation.

"I’m doing it for myself. And I’m doing it for the tribe. Like I said, I understand you" At this Garron close his eyes.

He did not know what to say. He has many intentions to send Ayera to Aeryon. One of them is of course, to try to see the kind of man Aeryon is.

Other than the fact that his daughter reported to him how strong he is, a fact which he already knows, the other reason is so that Aeryon become his daughter protection.

He likes to be prepared for all kinds of eventuality. And the Great Steppe is very dangerous.

He also worries that a larger tribe might ask for the hand of his daughter. At least, he chooses Aeryon because he believes that this Aeryon possess strength to protect his daughter in case he died.

Then Garron said

"When Aeryon came and when we talk, the moment he left this tent, I could no longer back out this wedding for you. If you do not want to marry him, tell me before he left this tent" Ayera laughed as she got up.

"Where are you going?"

"Back to my tent"

"You will not wait? There is still time. You could still change your mind"

Ayera shakes her head as she chuckles.

"When have I ever change my mind?" Saying this she went out of Garron tent and rides her horse away

In the tent Garron was dumbfounded for a few second, speechless. And then he laughs

A very carefree laugh.

"She is just like you, Chahaya. Even braver. A part of you...a part of me"

"Soar then. Go on and soar to the Eternal Blue Sky"

Garron sat alone in the spacious confines of his tent, surrounded by an air of anticipation that made time crawl.

With each passing moment, he could feel the weight of the impending meeting with Aeryon pressing upon him.

Nobody understood it more than him. He come here with many expectations. If Aeryon accepted Ayera hand, then he could continue to his other plans.

If Ayera did not want to marry Aeryon, with what Garron could offer he is quite sure that Aeryon would still be ally with his tribe.

Now, that Ayera is determined, he could plan in the best possible scenario.

Closing his eyes, he sought a moment of respite, seeking clarity in the cacophony of his thoughts.

There are many people that thought the people of the Great Steppe is incapable of complex thought. Because to them, they only herd sheep or hunt livestock and beast.

Their writings are not unified and they acted very different. These are the thoughts of Yan dynasty who believe only Yan people deserve to live.

They live in a small world, not knowing how the vast the world is. Hundreds of years’ worth of education, all of it is to degrade other human being

The Yan dynasty, with its grand walls and lofty ideals, had always held a condescending view of the Steppe people.

In their eyes, the nomadic tribes were nothing more than uncivilized, subhuman beings devoid of intellect.

Garron knew this perception couldn’t be further from the truth.

The Steppe, with its unforgiving landscapes and harsh winters, had forged a people who possessed a different kind of wisdom, one earned through survival and adaptation.

A wry smile played on Garron’s lips as he pondered the irony.

The Yan scholars, accustomed to the comforts of their palaces and books, would crumble under the weight of the Steppe’s challenges.

It was easy to dismiss the Steppe people as uneducated, but let those scholars venture into this land of vast grasslands and bitter winds, and they would quickly realize their folly.

As his mind navigated the labyrinth of possibilities, Garron’s thoughts settled on the security of his surroundings.

Only a few dozen loyal men guarded his tent, a deliberate choice to demonstrate his trust in Aeryon intentions.

He believed that the young chief wouldn’t be foolish enough to harm him in this vulnerable state, as such a brazen act would shatter any hope of future alliances.

Yet, Garron was no fool. He knew that safety was an illusion, and caution was his constant companion.

Aeryon true intentions remained veiled, and he couldn’t afford to underestimate the ambitious chief. If Aeryon dared to unleash his men upon him the moment he laid eyes on Garron’s modest retinue, it would serve as a testament to Aeryon true nature and it would be a chance to learn who Aeryon really is and where his ambitions lie

This is an audacious gamble with high stakes.

He believes that Aeryon would not kill him even when he is letting himself being killed

If Aeryon kills him now, no other chief would ever trust him again in an alliance. And now, even after a day, he is still alive

Aeryon seems to have spared him

But even though he is safe right now, he also become even more warier.

Garron’s mind raced with thoughts as he pondered the implications of Aeryon sparing his life.

The decision carried a weighty significance, one that revealed the depth of Aeryon character and aspirations.

The realization struck Garron like a thunderbolt, both admiration and apprehension intertwining within him.

Aeryon choice not to kill him, despite the opportunity presenting itself, spoke volumes about the young chief’s disciplined nature.

Garron had witnessed countless chiefs succumb to impetuousness and recklessness, their lack of self-restraint leading to their downfall.

But Aeryon was different.

He possessed the rare combination of ambition tempered by discipline—a lethal concoction that commanded Garron’s respect.

In sparing Garron’s life, Aeryon showcased his long-term vision and his understanding of the delicate dance of power and alliances.

A chief with small ambitions would have seized the opportunity to eliminate a potential threat without a second thought.

But Aeryon, with his self-restraint and calculated actions, demonstrated that his aspirations reached far beyond mere tribal protection.

Garron’s admiration for Aeryon grew with each passing moment.

He recognized the qualities he himself lacked—the patience, the foresight, and the gift of time.

"I am rushed. He is not"
