Way of Overlord
Chapter 435: Born Not Knowing

Chapter 435: Born Not Knowing

One of the Emperor of the Old Empire did not fight for the world until he was in his forties. Noble not by birth right by deed

And his group of nobles are all comprised of common people

One of the prime minister are Tayak herders.

One of their greatest warriors in the story of the Old Empire was so poor that he couldn’t even afford to eat.

One of the greatest general of the Old Empire is nothing but a weaver

"The Empire of the Steppe was originally founded by a group of ordinary people rising up against extraordinary circumstances"

"Who says you could not rule this area? Who says a warrior can’t rule a kingdom?"

Aeryon look at Belarion eyes and he laughed.

"If you can’t read, then learn it. If you can’t govern a country, then try it! Those who come before us and do great deeds, carved their accomplishment in history, do they born knowing? Do they know everything from the start?"

Aeryon nearly shouted it to Belarion

"Belarion. Never limit yourself to the ground. I see that you could be more. You are not a snake that slithers on the ground. You are an eagle that could soar to the sky!"

Aeryon words have some kind of powerful persuasion in it.

It is not because the words are magic.

It is because Aeryon truly believe what he is saying

And when faith is conveyed through words, it could create a resounding sound that pierces through one heart

They believe in it.

They wanted to believe in it

Belarion does not believe it. Because he did not trust himself.

He look down on himself.

People say he is good at fighting.

And he knows he is good at fighting.

But that is the only thing he is good at.

He limits himself. He sets a wall that he himself could not climb.

Because this wall is self-created. It is as thick and as high as he believes it to be

But once he believes that the wall is not thick and not high then he could climb it. He could break it

And once he believe that there is no wall at all, that is the time when Belarion would blossom beautifully.

And right now, as Belarion savour these words he slowly believes it. It is like someone shines a light on a dark tunnel and that allows him to see the exit.

And now as he walk out of that tunnel, he could see a brand-new world. Suddenly he understood. Sometimes all he needs is a nudge.

In his current state, where he is growing every day, new ideas took some time to enter his mind. But there is an advantage to this

Most people are rigid. They are rigid for a reason. Because it works. They rarely change because why change things that are not broken

Rigidity comes from routine and from the lack of need. When routine and norms does not work, only then rigidity could easily be broken and innovation flourished.

But for that rigidity to be broken, sometimes it needs a nudge

Older people have a certain way of seeing the world and the worldview and mindset is sometimes is already permanent and even if it is not permanent, it is hard to change

Because to change it is to change their entire world

If it makes sense and it is useful, sooner or later it would change. If it does not work and prove to be failure, then the old ways would come again

Belarion is good because he is like a child.

Even though he now have become smarter and not like an idiot like before, it does not mean that he suddenly become able to understand the ways of the world

The only reason Belarion is not exposed for this kind of naivety is because Belarion simply follows Aeryon order.

What Aeryon orders, he follows it almost religiously. Aeryon wanted him to learn to rule so that he could be more flexible.

Belarion mind is like a blank slate.

It make him seem simple but this also allows him to accept new ideas quickly.

If Aeryon said these words about nobility and learning to the Elders, they would find it hard to accept it.

Even Aeryon current reform of trying to put meritocracy in the army has some resistance from the Elders

Unfortunately for the Elders, the Elder Council in Aeryon tribe works only as an advisory council.

Aeryon is the few chief in the Steppe that have full control of his tribe and have the ultimate authority in the tribe to decide anything and everything without having to mind any other forces

Because any other voices and forces that could exert an influence upon the military and the people of his tribe has been weakened so much that they could only bow and obey whatever Aeryon tell them to do

There is no need to share powers between the elders and the great warriors like some other tribes.

Aeryon prowess in battle is acknowledged and that won him the hearts of the warriors. In other the military.

He himself is a capable leader and warlord and when there is a battle to be fought, he did not shy from the frontline which only enhances his image and persona in the tribe.

For the people, he gave them resources, land and pride.

Those who called themselves Brolgadhr is proud to be a part of Brolgadhr tribe.

And because of Aeryon, there is more grazing land.

The animals of the Brolgadhr tribe is some of the healthiest animals in the region.

More grazing lands means more food and variety. There is also the wealth that is now transferred to the people

Wealth that came from loot and tributes. Small clans and small tribes that are now under the banner of Brolgadhr is expected to give tributes.

And there is also the loot from destroyed tribes and Yan cities.

Aeryon is unlike any other chief in that he truly distributed wealth all over his tribe and to his people

There is a lot of livestock, goods and even slaves to assist in daily work. And the one that benefited from this significantly is none other than the Brolgadhr tribe.

This two benefit alone is enough to win the support of the people. Because the benefit they got could be seen and tangible.

And there is another class that is very much support the Kan.

The merchants. As Aeryon tribe power expanded, trade routes became safer and more accessible under the Brolgadhr tribe protection.

Economic opportunities is increasing, and there is stability and protection which is all good for the merchants

But one of the reason why so many common people of the Brolgadhr tribe supported Aeryon because under him, merit is rewarded and often rewarded

It is only in his time, that commoners could rise in rank through loyalty, bravery or skill.

Look at Mukhulai. A former slave now could lead a thousand men. Burchu who is a wandering warrior came to the tribe and prove himself to the Kan and quickly promoted.

Even defeated warriors could be employed and be trusted with leading the warriors

There is many brave men of the Steppe and while some are content being a herder, being a merchant, a hunter and a builder, some wanted more.

Some have talents that they want to show to the world. And under Aeryon they could show it and be rewarded for it

There is social mobility in Aeryon tribe that could not eb found in any other tribes. And some other tribe has been trying to emulate Aeryon method

But what Aeryon could do, they could not do it so effortlessly.

New things appears and new food emerges.

Cities and stronghold are being built.

With the newfound prosperity of the tribe, Aeryon had facilitated communication and travel. And there is now improved infrastructure all around Aeryon region of influence and the allies region

There is messenger relay stations and it is easier for people of the Brolgadhr tribe to access markets, information and assistance which boost security all over the region.

This is what makes him popular among his own people.

The military and the hearts of the people are with him so even if the Elders did not disagree with him, nothing could be done

And as for the former chief that now bow under his tribe, Aeryon convinced them with both force and benefit.

As for how to pacify the Elder, Aeryon work with his uncle so that the Elders would not cross the line.

Aeryon need many words to convince the Elders but he only need to highlight certain things for Belarion to accept it.

Aeryon look at Belarion and he could see that Belarion is thinking.

Belarion right now seems like he is transfixed standing there and his eyes is a little blank.

He is thinking of something.

And he is understanding something.

As his sworn brother had said, which one of the great heroes and the great people in the stories that were told to him when he was young, when he used to gather around the campfire knows everything from the beginning?

They are all like him.

And this thought makes him happy
