Way of Overlord
Chapter 382: The Gap

Chapter 382: The Gap

The other one must be Aeryon.

That is what he concluded.

Only that young wolf would be able to create such ruckus

"What a terrifying enemy. No wonder, they could create such a great feat" he thought to himself. He would never say it out loud. After all, praising the enemy when the morale is already low is not a good thing for his soldiers.

Did he not know this? Of course, he knows this. But some decision in life leave you with no choice.

He could not just surrender to him. Yanlan is like any other ambitious chief. He has ambition in his heart and no one could let him bow his head. If not, he would not have maintain his existence as Wustkazan all of these years.

He look on the Belarion side for a moment and then he looks at the Aeryon side and he could not help but shake his head.

These two fight a battle with difference in troop.

He brought ten thousand men. Aeryon only have five thousand men.

And instead of dispersing his attack, Aeryon confidently attack him directly

What does this show? It means he did not even see his tribe as a threat, it means he is confident enough to defeat him even with the difference in the number of troops

No one would be as daring as Aeryon.

But he also knows that Aeryon has defeated people even when his army is smaller than the enemy

It is just uncomfortable being on the beaten side.

Yanlan saw one of his warriors is struggling and he raises his bow and release the arrow. The arrow struck the head, piercing through the left ears and existed from the right ears.

But Yanlan did not feel happy at all.

While these two Aeryon and Belarion is rushing toward him, he is shooting arrows to Aeryon warriors.

Before, Belarion seems unstoppable and he was about to reach him.

If not for Xiwanu suddenly rushing forward and halted a bit of Belarion momentum, the warriors around him would probably have lost all their morale and any formation would be useless.

Now, he is surrounded by his warriors protecting him left and right.

As for his empty arrow box, many of his warriors offers him their arrows.

Even though Yanlan is not as strong physically, he is an excellent sharpshooter. He never misses. Even after a hundred arrows had been shot by him he did not miss even one

The situation is bad right now and the only thing he could do right now is trying to kill as many as possible while trying to break out.

On his left Aeryon is rushing toward him. On his front there is Belarion being hold out by Xiwanu.

These two people plan is easy to guess

Take his head and disperse the enemy! He was not rash when he charges toward Belarion. At that time, he thought he could at least fight with Belarion

But now, seeing Belarion strength how could he not know that doing that would lead to his death.

If Belarion is alone then maybe he would not be that afraid.

But now even Aeryon is heading straight towards him and he quickly regain his senses. People are clear when death is coming closer. The ancients did not lie to him.

Now that he felt death is near, his thoughts suddenly become clear

Aeryon wanted to end this battle as fast as possible.

After all, the low number of his soldiers is still a disadvantage. The longer this battle goes on, the more advantageous it become for him

Yanlan only think of this now.

If Aeryon knows Yanlan thinking right now, he would assess him as a man with ambition but indecisive personality.

Regretting when making a decision, wavering when the disadvantage is on him, unable to take chance and opportunities at the right time, rash but has short thought

This assessment is not unfair at all. Because with the warriors he has, he could actually emulate Aeryon in the past.

He has bravery but he uses it at the wrong time. When it is time for him to be decisive and move forward, he did not

When he should not move froward, overwhelmed with emotion, he instead become brave and goes forward.

If Aeryon has as much as capable warrior that Yanlan has, he probably would not have been expelled from the Great Steppe by the Xewa and Ghar tribe and might even defeated those two tribes even before they could lay their claims to Brolgadhr area.

The worse choice that Yanlan could make was actually the best choice.

Before if he chooses to break out of the settlement and let Aeryon took the settlement, it shows that his bravery is used at the right place

If Aeryon was in his situation, even if the morale would break he would lead his men out of the main settlement.

He would not let the enemy to trap him in one place.

He would rather break the cauldron and sink the boats then passively accepting the strategy of the enemy

He would dare do it.

But he dares do it because he has great charisma and the people around him is loyal.

Yanlan has decades to cultivate his prestige and his renown and make people become loyal to him.

But he could not trust his people.

Look at the warriors of Kazan that fought Belarion.

If that is not loyalty, what it is then?

But Yanlan did not think of this.

He did not think of loyalty as something important.

Aeryon knows that in the tribe, the most important thing has been trust and loyalty

This is why not trusting anyone is stupid and trusting everyone is also stupid.

You cannot live in this world without some trust.

If all the trust is broken, then whoever keep the trust is the light in a dark world and everyone would gather.

Aeryon chooses Belarion as his second-hand man in the beginning. And he still is. In the terms of management of the tribe Mayeux might be the second person

But for someone he trusted the most, it is Belarion. Not his uncle, not his elders, but Belarion.

Yanlan could not use all the advantages given to him. And because of that he is passive today and had to accept whatever that happens today.

Yanlan knows the strategy of the enemy but make a choice that is not good to him.

If Belarion is not there, if Aeryon is not there, then his decision would be very wise.

After all, winning an army with difference in size is not something common

That is why it is always highlighted in history when an inferior force defeated a superior force.

But every battle is different and every battle has its own factors.

Belarion is a man that could be an enemy of a thousand people, a child born with innate strength,

In any kingdom, in any empires, a child with such birth is a monster in the battlefield, most of them leave their name in the stories of the storytellers, in history books and in folktales.

Extraordinary beings, a remnant of a magical past

What about Aeryon?

This is a young man who did the impossible, going against the grain, established a great cause for his tribe

He was expelled from the Great Steppe, just alongside the Pass to Nurshira and this should have been the end of his story.

He would go to Yan and probably mingle with the Songnu or Sirong people and become the people of Yan

But instead, he gamble and returns back to the Great Steppe

It might have been the gamble of a lifetime.

He the kills the Ghar tribe warriors, defeated the Xewa and manage to intimidate the Viper to promise an alliance with him

He then swiftly conquers small tribes, convince the clans around the area of Brolgadhr to pledge fealty to him, make the Viper send his daughter and rule the lower central part of the Southern Great Steppe.

He makes a gamble.

And that gamble won him the right to compete for the world.

Even if he dies today, his deeds are great and he would be a figure in his tribe that would be talked about in the tent fire when the winter winds came and when the summer night brings its breeze.

Extraordinary young man, with huge ambition to swallow the world.

How could it be easy to kill such a man who fought his way out to greatness by stepping on the bones of the people who tries to stop him?

A monster in his own right, and even more dangerous than Belarion.

Belarion is the brawn.

He is pure strength, pure chaos that brings more chaos. Aeryon is the brawn with the brains.

He could kill you with a sword, or he could kill you with words. He could scheme against you and you not would even know how you die.

And right now, all of the advantages of the Brolgadhr tribe is now revealed toward Yanlan. And he could not be happy about

All of the Brolgadhr seems to have sharp weapon, and sturdy armours.

As for Wustkazan they are not armoured soldiers, they did not have horses covered in steel and iron.
