Chapter 361: Breaking The Trust

Chapter 361: Breaking The Trust

However, this did not mean that the Yan people that is being attacked should be grateful to him.

Because not all warriors is as disciplined as Aeryon warriors.

When they do raid, they raided like a crazed gods, looting small town and villages and burning them

There is fires all over the northern region of Nurshira.

Aeryon actually wanted this to happen even more.

Because in the book, Dugu Yi and Xu Bailong uses Nurshira as the springboard to compete for the Central Plains.

In the book, Aeryon wonders how could Xu Bailong uses one region to fight against the entire world.

It wasn’t until Aeryon is in this world, he could understand why.

The map of Yan held some similarity to the geography of ancient China.

But only some similarity. The name sometimes the same but the geography is different from the ancient China of his world

There is Luoyang, there is Chang’an, but is it the same Luoyang?

Is it the same Chang’an.

There is mountains that have the same name as the one in ancient China but is the direction the same?

No

Everything is different, everything is foreign. Just like the Great Steppe in this world is different from the Great Steppe in his world, this Yan empire that seems to be a replica of the Han dynasty is also not the same.

Fortunately, enough, Aeryon did not know much about ancient China and their geography so he would not be feeling incongruity even if he sees an entirely different map

He had studied Nurshira map with Mayeux.

And he ask Mayeux if he uses Nurshira as a base, could he fight the entire Yan dynasty.

Mayeux said that it would be hard, but it is possible. Nurshira is not like the northern region of ancient China

It is separated by a large river three sides.

It connect with the land of the Great Steppe on its northern border but on its western side and its eastern side and even the southern side, it is surrounded by this one river.

So, if one look from above the shape of Nurshira is like a U shaped horseshoe. It connected to the Yan empire by three great gates and three great bridges.

It connected to the Yan empire on the south.

The west and east side is full of water.

While the north is connected to the vast grassland of the Great Steppe.

These three bridges and these three great gates was built long before the Yan dynasty ever set foot to the land of Nurshira.

The people of the Eresian called the land Northshire. Ashran people called it Norland. The Marynku people called it Nurshira.

Most people in Yan that lives in Nurshira called it Beizhou.

The three great bridges and the three great gates connected the land of Yan with Nurshira. Nurshira in the past, is the land of the Great Steppe.

It is where they harvest the resources of the rivers.

The rivers is large and inside it is full of fishes and full of dangers but for the people of the Steppe at the time they could easily enter the river.

But then the Yan people come and kills the people of that land.

Yan people like always is a deceptive race. There is a person called Nie Yi.

And his scheme shows to the Great Steppe people that the people of Yan are born with deceptive nature.

There is people from far away lands that also attested to the deceptive nature of the Yan people

Whenever they speak, they tell a lie.

Whenever they promises, he broke it.

Whenever you trust them, they prove to be dishonest. If you keep something as a trust with them, they will not return it.

They are like a sheep that hesitates between two flocks, sometimes following one, and sometimes following another, not knowing which to follow.

The reason why the distrust between the Great Steppe and the people of Yan started long before this Nie Yi create his scheme

But it is clear, that Nie Yi broke any illusion of the Yan people trustworthiness for the people of the Great Steppe

The Scheme of Mayi.

That is how the battle was called and how it ended the peace between the Great Steppe people and the Yan dynasty.

It was during Yan dynasty, the reign of Emperor Wu.

They set a trap for one of the chief of the Great Steppe at the city of Mayi.

Mayi at that time is a city near Nurshira, just outside the gate and outside of the Southern Great Gate.

This Scheme of Mayi is also a scheme that happens in Aeryon world history but the geography is different for this world and different from his original world.

There is a trusted trader slash smuggler Nie Wengyi also known as Nie Yi that uses the trust that the people of the Great Steppe had given him and betray that trust

For decades, the people of the Great Steppe treats Nie Yi with great hospitality.

But the people of Yan is a race of people that does not know how to keep a promise nor they know of gratitude.

They view other races as inferior than them

Even when they are trampled, this superiority that they believe they have could not be erased.

They believe that they are superior than others and everyone should be their slave. Their scholars and wise men would use words to obfuscate truth and righteousness.

This Nie Yi, this one person that had been welcomed, treated honourably and was always treated like a great friend of the tribe of the Great Steppe deceptively said that he had killed the local magistrate and is willing to offer the city to the people of the Great Steppe.

The leader of this coalition tribes of Nurshira at the time believed Nie Yi because he has always been good to the people of the Great Steppe.

This is the difference between the people of Yan and people of Great Steppe.

Regardless of race, the Great Steppe believes and trust those who are kind to them.

Yan trust only Yan people. They believe that people who is not of their race must have different hearts than them and could not be trusted.

It is pointless trying to win their trust because no matter how much you contribute, their argument would simply be, not of our race, his heart must be different.

Even if they profess they trust you, behind your back, they would scheme to take your riches and plots against you.

The Scheme of Mayi was to entice the Nurshira forces into advancing on Mayi so that a three hundred thousand strong Yan force hidden around the area could encircle and ambush them

Nie Yi, this ungrateful animal who has been trusted heavily by the people of the Great Steppe wanted to slaughter all of the Great Steppe people whether they were innocent or not, Nie Yi wanted to eradicate the entire tribe there.

However, the plan to exterminate the Songnu people, and the chiefs of the great Steppe tribe failed.

Ironically, it failed because the Yan overdid it.

The offer is excessively too attractive.

When the people of the grassland took the bait and moved in for a raid on the Mayi city, one of the warriors saw that everything is weird.

The warrior saw that the fields is full of cattle but there is no herders. The chief hearing this matter feel suspicious and ordered his men to halt their advance.

The scouts then captured a Yan soldier from a local outpost, who then told the entire plan to the chief and the tribe leaders of the Songnu and Sirong.

Shaken with shock and full of anger at the betrayal, the chief abandoned the raid and withdrew quickly before the Yan forces could act.

At that time, the Yan forces were scattered at this point and unable to concentrate in time to catch the people of Steppe.

Wang Hui, the commander of the entire Yan operation, had only 30,000 troops under his direct command, too few to stop the people of the Great Steppe from retreating back to the city, so he hesitated and ordered the Yan forces not to pursue.

As a result, neither side suffered any casualties.

But the aftermath of this open the conflict between Yan and the people of the Great Steppe.

When the Emperor Wu finally once again break the trust of the Great Steppe, as these Yan people commonly do, they killed many families and tribes of the Great Steppe in Nurshira.

Is the people of Yan cry in tears and feel despair when they were raided by the people of the Great Steppe? Did they shouted at the sky, wailing about the burning of Nurshira?

They blame the Steppe people, but they forget that underneath the road they built, below the house that they establish, there is the blood of the Great Steppe people flowing, still red even after almost two hundred years had passed.

The Great Steppe people would not take the land of people who have given them generosity.

Land itself is not that much of a concept to nomadic tribes.

They share the lands among them.

The Great Steppe for example belongs to the people of the Great Steppe.

And while they do create settlements most of these settlements is not a long term but there is large settlements and cities in the Great Steppe.
