Chapter 298: Haltur Tribe
Chapter 298: Haltur Tribe
Surprisingly enough, Ashana Angah is someone who could speak many language.
He could speak Yan fluently, an understandable Yindu word in a few dozen dialects, and Roma words even though it is a bit broken.
And because of that he also studies the martial arts of the Yan people .
But he clearly does not have the talent in fighting. But he does have a talent in reading and memorizing things
So, he once went to a Daoist Temple in disguise and learns many things in that temple and he also learns about the Daoism that some Yan martial artist practise among other.
The more he examines it, the more it becomes abundantly clear that the very reason for cultivating qi and living naturally within nature in the Daoist practice is simply is to attain immortality.
To him, the mysticism of immortality is Daoism at its heart.
Just as the doctrine of the Enlightened One in Yindu is about the attainment of awakening and enlightening the soul and the immortality of nirvana and some religions is about entering eternal life in Heaven, Daoism is about attaining immortality through the Way.
Ashana Angah did say he did not read all the Daoist cannon but he can scarcely find anything within Daoist history that is not directed toward this ideal.
In the writings of some of the most famous Daoist, immortality is at the center of everything.
While these writers of Daoism professed a philosophy, aired political and social problems, and countered the misinterpretations of rival doctrines, their writings were not just about philosophy, political and social agendas, or doctrinal struggles.
They were, rather, a unique weave of words that could be interpreted toward all of those ends, while teaching about immortality and living the Dao itself.
And it is this that is the concepts of alchemy between the far west and the south of Steppe differs.
Even then, Aeryon did not remember all the things that the Ashana told him.
"Alchemy alone is something that would take years to understand and a decade more to even see the Truth in it" he mutters the words the Ashana told him
Aeryon could not help but think that he could actually be tempted with this idea.
Immortality.
"No" he shook his head as he spit out this word
"This is not the time to think of this" Not to mention that Aeryon quickly remember, that in this world, there is not open or two people that tries to seek immortality.
But out of those many powerful and influential people seeking the fabled immortally, none of them had succeeded
The most famous one that is near the Great Steppe is probably the First Emperor of Xun. The First Emperor sent his servants to the sea to seek the elixir of immortality.
But he is called a fool by many because of this endeavour.
And even the emperor after him, even after the dynasty of Xun had fallen and Yan had risen, the emperor after him while at the same time criticizing him also did the same thing, trying to find a way to live forever.
And the result?
They still die, their bodies is till shoved into a coffin
"And I still have the system"
Aeryon thought to himself.
He should not be tempted by anything other than that. The system itself is magical in a way. And actually, immortality is not something that Aeryon craved that much
For some reason, the moment he thought of immortality all of his passion disintegrated.
Maybe, someday when he is old, when death is near, maybe at that time he would change his mind. But for now, he is not thinking that much.
"This study of the soul is connected with so many knowledge. How does the Ashana expect me to find such people to summon the Spirit of the Great Steppe" he mutters while sighing.
"It would need at least one hundred Ashana. Twenty-five of them should be proficient in the study of the soul. The other should have some Mana to operate it"
"This is basically impossible for me now" he mutters to himself
Aeryon is quite influential and powerful but that is only in the Southern Great Steppe.
Not to mention, he did not yet rule the entire Southern Great Steppe.
And even if he rules the entire Southern Great Steppe, not all Ashana would be as obedient or as cooperative like the Ashana that is in his tribe or that surrender to his tribe.
These Ashana is usually mild tempered but some of them are also very prone to anger and is eccentric.
Since that is the case, he could only the crudest way, relying on lore’s and stories of the past.
"And maybe the system would also help me" Aeryon spend all that day looking at maps.
The evening came and went, the sun sets and night appears.
The moon hung high in the heavens, the clouds pushed by the winds, the moonlight illuminate the land, and a day had passed.
It wasn’t until late at night that Aeryon returns back to his tent.
It took Aeryon three more days meeting the Ashana, looking at maps, listening to some stories before Aeryon finally saddle up one morning, take his horse and ride out of the city
He begins his own personal quest, seeking the Spirit of the Great Steppe while the world spins and changes
....
At the same time Aeryon is doing all of these, spring has come to all parts of the Great Steppe.
Most of the tribes in the Southern Great Steppe is in jubilant mood.
But in the Chagai tribe a different kind of tension fills the Chief tent.
Yesterday a battle had been initiated between the Chagai tribe and the Haltur tribe.
the battle between the two tribes begins
....
In the Haltur tribe, the sudden attack of the Chagai tribe scares them.
This si actually not the first time that the Chagai tribe had attacked them.
In the past during Chadha youth, there were also times when the Chagai tribe would riad them for horses, Tayak and their women just like hey did the same thing to them
But it is different now.
The time is different, the intention is also different
Chagai tribe is not the Chagai tribe in the past where they are a small tribe.
they are now one of the large force in the lower Southern Great Steppe.
They are allied with the Ultar and Nergui tribe and the alliance of these three tribes is proving to become a powerful force.
The Chagai tribe has long allied with these forces. But they allied each other separately. For example, the Ultar and Nergui tribe is actually mostly rival tribes.
But these two warlike tribe are actually connected by marriage in the form of both of them is close to Chagai tribe.
It wasn’t until the emergence of Aeryon that Chadha began wooing these two tribes to increase the cooperation.
But the decisive point, the point where Chadha managed to unite these three tribes into one alliance is when the Ultar and Nergui tribe nearly went to war with each other and Chadha mediate and then created an alliance that protected each other, and each other interest.
And if these interest would infringe the interest of the alliance member, then they would discuss it.
A dominant force that is about to rise
That is the evaluation of the chief of Haltur toward this Cha Ner Ul Alliance
And the chief of Haltur tribe knows exactly why Chagai tribe attacked them right now, right after winter ends, and spring came.
"he wanted to swallow us whole and deter the influence of the Brolgadhr tribe!" this is the conclusion that the chief of Haltur tribe arrives at,
And he was right.
Listening to the report of his scouts, knowing that Chagai tribe brought thousands of horsemen to attack his settlement, he knows he has to intercept them before they could arrive at the main settlements and create more chaos.
Some clans had already fled.
These are weak clans that did not have strong standing in the tribe.
But, the Haltur chief who is usually quite authoritative tries gentle method to persuade them to stay.
"Now, I need everyone" he said it while clenching his fist.
Haltur tribe is strong. The tribe has strong warriors. They fought many threats before. But that strength when meeting thousands of horsemen, when facing such a large force that dwarfs them like a giant of old, than even a strong tribe like them could fall
There is a reason why Haltur tribe could not unify the west. Nor could they expand to the east or fight toward the north or move toward the south
They are strong but they are not the only strong tribe in this Steppe. The western tribe borders could not be attacked if not who would held back the Western Zhou soldiers?
Bound by honour and imprisoned by honour.
If they take the south, then they would be close to the Yan and trying to move toward the west is an even harder test.
Chagai tribe has always managed to fight against the Haltur tribe in the past and the north has large tribe like the Oglan tribe.
And each chief bows to the circumstances.
If there is one chief that have the courage of Aeryon, the strength of Belarion, then the Haltur could always have a place in the contention for the title of Kan of the South
It would not be reduced to this.
"The opportunity for hegemony has ended and now I could only fight for this tribe survival!"
