Way of Overlord -
Chapter 240: Crazy Ambition
Chapter 240: Crazy Ambition
One action of a young man changes the world.
That is what Aeryon had did. And the consequences of that action ripple through the entire Southern Great Steppe.
And that is why Chadha could no longer wake up after dawn.
Instead, he had woken up even before dawn.
To prepare himself.
He leave the comfort of his wives and goes to another tent. Just coming out of the tent before he nearly wanted to go back to his tent.
The winter cold even though it is not as cold as before, it is still quite biting.
Actually, he imitates some of Aeryon way.
It is said that Aeryon the Chief of Brolgadhr has two tents. One tent is the chief tent. The other is his war tent
War tent usually refers to the tent that is erected during the time of battle between two tribes. Especially if the battle between tribes involve hundred and thousands of people.
But in Brolgadhr settlement, there is a different tent . It is also called the war tent.
This war tent is Aeryon personal war tent where he would sometimes summons his warriors and commanders and strategists to discuss thing or for him to think of strategies to fight.
Chadha strength is that he could imitate the action of successful people and take the strength for him to use.
"It is not like before. This is the new world" he mutters to himself. He is alone in this tent. There is still a candle burning on the table.
Chadha did not have the energy to stay up late at night like his sons. But he can get up early.
The tent entrance is covered by the leather curtain and only a few of the sunlight could enter this dark tent.
He did not sit on the chief seat instead he is standing around the table. In the past, when there is not much to do, he would wait in his chief tent
He would adorn himself in rich embroidered clothing, that he would buy from Western Zhou merchants
He would don a few headdresses. His advisors and the Elder Council would be gathered.
Most of the time, they would discuss matters about the tribe.
Sometimes they would mediate some fight between the tribesmen. Sometimes, there is rumours that one of Sazayi family would stela the Tayak of the Yulia family
Sometimes, it would be the Yulia family fighting the younger generation of the Sazayi family. Sometime it is other family
The problem is usually not that heavy.
Most of the times, these people who know each other would be easy to persuade to not fight.
Their feud are not so much as feud as neighbourly rivalry.
At times, they would be discussing about the tribe plans.
Sometimes they would discuss where to move in certain seasons.
The area of influence of the Chagai tribe is large and sometimes they choose different place to settle when certain place is no longer so accommodating
But everyone knows which place is Chagai tribe region and which one are the others.
When they cross that line, it does not always mean war or a battle.
There is no walls or header to determine which one is the end of the border and which one if the beginning of the border
Most of the time, the tribe living there would inform that you have tress aped certain tribe areas.
And if these tribes are running away from winter or from enemies, it depends on that other tribe to either give the gift of protection or throw them away.
Either way, it is not always meet with swords and spear.
However, that has clearly changed these past few weeks.
Tensions are rising, and battle are sometime fought even with slight disagreements.
Some people began enforcing these illusory borders. And if you did not agree with the allocation of these borders, then you are free to contest it.
With steel and blood.
"The biggest thing that was discussed in the chief tent is merely matters of diplomacy and hunting. That is the good old days. The peaceful days" he thought to himself.
He sighed and then he shivers a bit. The candle is lit by one of the slaves. They are preparing to lit up the central firepit.
And just when Chadha is thinking that these slaves is taking their time, they announce themselves, enter the tent, and lit up the central firepit and quickly make themselves scarce.
Only then Chandha feel a bit warm
The central firepit crackle, and the flickering flames cast dancing shadows on the intricately decorated felt walls, adorned with things of the tribes
Some of them are trophies. Chadha look at it and sighed.
In the seating area, there is furs and cushion.
There is also the smell of tea. His slaves is brewing it right now
Made from some spices and herbs, the smell permeate the air outside.
And when they finished they enter into the tent bringing him the tea
Chadha took one sip and he feels energized.
And then he looks back at the table.
What is on the table that he is looking at it so intently.
It is a map.
The map is not very complete. It is very different from the map that Mayeux presented to Aeryon.
In the map that Mayeux give Aeryon he even outline borders. Of course, these borders are subject to change and the borders writing is simply to emphasize the extent of the influence of a certain tribe.
It is not yet the time when each tribe cares that much about their borders.
"The tribe needs to take Haltur" he thought to himself.
This is the solution he had found.
Chagai sighed.
he would rather that these troublesome thig is handled by his sons.
But he is still the chief.
Most chief did not want to let go of power until they die but contrary to other chief, Chadha did not think being a chief is that good.
Yes, there is that occasional luxury and convenience.
But, there is also tiredness.
There is also this pressure.
Especially for Chadha.
Fearing that any moves he makes would end his tribe under his hand. For someone like Chadha he would not be able to accept that
And he is old. If not for the sudden emergence of the Brolgadhr tribe as a power , he probably would have given his son the title of the chief already.
But none of his son is as cunning as that young wolf.
"And so, I had to step up"
He sighed again
And then his mind once again is reminded of that young chief.
And of course, remembering that young chief, he sighed even more.
"Even the Viper seems to be impressed with that boy. If the Viper has such a high evaluation for that young wolf, there must be something extraordinary about him"
Chadha knows the Viper and precisely because he knows the Viper, he knows that cunning old man rarely would act the way he did.
The fact that the Viper trust Aeryon shows that there is something extraordinary about that young chief.
It is not quite accurate to say that the Viper trust Aeryon. It is more accurate to say that the Viper trusted Aeryon strength
And Chadha had met Aeryon. He met him and even have a night talk with him. At that time Aeryon was assessing him
And he of course was also assessing that young chief who bring his army riding through the west at that time
And there is something that Chadha could easily see
There are things he did not understand about those young men, his somewhat awkward demeanour, like a person that did not live in this Steppe. It is almost like he is a foreign person who did not live in the Steppe.
However, all of this awkwardness is masked by his domineering side and power
There is also the young chief different take on certain thought on some things but if there is something that Chadha sees that is obvious to him and probably to everyone...it is that Aeryon is a great ambitious man.
And when Chadha said this, he means something bigger. He sees many men and chief with ambition.
But rarely he labelled someone with great ambition man.
The ambition to expand your tribe, make your tribe strong is the ambition of any chief. So, Chadha would never ascribe greatness to such ambition.
Because it is the default ambition for nay chief. Which chief does not want his tribe to thrive and become powerful?
But what sees from Aeryon something different. He seems to be looking at a higher pint. That is the point of all those alliances, all that patience, all of those compromising.
This is someone who could hold himself back. But what is he holding himself back for? That is the question Chadha tries to solve
Someone who only wanted to guard their three acres of lands would not do the things that Aeryon had did.
He must have a large ambition. Some people thought that Aeryon wanted to be Qayan of the South, taking over the Southern Great Steppe all under his banner
But Chadha doesn’t think so.
Someone like that probably have a bigger ambition. This could be seen when Aeryon decided to attack the city of Yan.
It took Chadha a few days before he reached a conclusion.
Aeryon...that crazy young wolf wanted to compete with the world! And after reaching this conclusion, Chadha believe that what the young wolf wanted is not the Southern Great Steppe. He wanted it all
He wanted the entire Great Steppe!
